This album of hers was ahead of its time by about ten years. If it had been released earlier, I think it could've been a huge hit with those late 80's jazz pop songs making it big. Going by her quotes and interviews, Karen Carpenter seemed to have felt like a very repressed person whose personality as an adult really came out around her friends. Her family seemed to want to perpetuate this image of her as an innocent preteen singing wholesome and 'safe' music, which was all really excellent music, don't get me wrong, but it seems like Karen wanted to experiment with other up-and-coming styles. Most Carpenters songs are innocent romance songs that are safe playing on a family car ride or at a church dance. That's not a bad thing, but I think if it weren't for Karen's death, she probably would have rebelled at some point and written songs on other topics that went beyond what was expected of her.

KC had already started to explore. Richard said not to do disco. Phil Ramone asked KC what did she feel like doing and she said she liked Donna Summer...I smiled when I read that and thought Yeah KC, you do what your spirit moves you to do.

What a heartfelt video you created for one of my all time favorite artists! She was so much more than just a world class singer. She was a musician, a good one, and a performance artist. Who else can could really sing and really play the drums, simultaneously WELL? No easy feat, I know from having been a mediocre singer and piano player. Just try and use all your limbs, and sing, and keep time, in tune, sitting down!! And she did it effortlessly, or so it sounded and appeared. I miss her to this day. She, for me, is in the category of a unique, once in a lifetime prodigious talent. The artists, Laura Nyro, & Aretha Franklin come to mind. Three notes from one of them and you knew. That's one in a billion talent. Thank you for your beautiful video. K's Condo.

She was unbelievably talented, definitely, and also a really genuinely kind and nice person. Some celebrities let fame go to their heads and they get conceited and snobby, but Karen Carpenter remained down-to-earth, friendly and loyal to the people who helped her get started. In anything I've seen of her, she really cared about her friends and she was always happy when her fans loved her. It's very tragic that she died so soon in her life and career.

Very good presentation I still can not understand why the label did not let her release this album.. Sure Richard is not involved but it sounds like Karen to me... guess back in the day they thought that it would hurt the Carpenters.... To me I like it as it is other instruments that suite her voice and not so keyboard related

This is really nice. Her family and Herb Albert should have released the album.

The entire album wasn't as good as this song. Their decision was based on everything across the board. For me, this is THE song that stood out. In comparison to her former work, this wasn't a successful endeavor.

Richard Carpenter was so very selfish to act like Karen's Solo album was not good..IT was superb....hard to understand how he couldn't see that..... perhaps nothing but jealousy and fear of being left out!

I can understand why this album was shelved. I bought the CD and thought it was a monumental bore, and this song is a perfect example of its lack of excitement. 1980 was an exciting time in pop music, but the choice of material for Karen to wrap her pipes around is surprisingly dull. The only song that shows off her versatility is My Body Keeps Changin' its Mind. The rest, feh.

She was such a beautiful woman! If only she could have been able to see herself through the eyes of her fans...
