Carly Simon - Scarborough Fair Lyrics
Are you going to Scarborough Fair:
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine.
Tracing of sparrow on snow-crested brown.
Blankets and bedclothes the child of the mountain
Sleeps unaware of the clarion call.
Tell her to make me a cambric shirt:
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme;
Without no seams nor needle work,
Then she'll be a true love of mine.
On the side of a hill a sprinkling of leaves.
A soldier cleans and polishes a gun.
Sleeps unaware of the clarion call.
Tell her to find me an acre of land:
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme;
Between the salt water and the sea strand,
Then she'll be a true love of mine.
War bellows blazing in scarlet battalions.
General order their soldiers to kill.
And to fight for a cause they've long ago forgotten.
Tell her to reap it with a sickle of leather:
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme;
And gather it all in a bunch of heather,
Then she'll be a true love of mine.

full version its just played twice
forty years ago I stopped smoking pot and took the cure for alcoholism. This song sounds better stoned since now when I listen I shudder at the drug scene I left for good. New friends can't explain my love for folk rock. 40 years of sobriety leads me to say, 'save your memories there all that's left you.'
I remember my older sister doing a recital on point to this song. It was 1987, I was 10 years and it is one of my most cherished memories of her. Even before her passing 3 years ago I knew it would always be very special to me. I took dance too of course and was supposed to be getting ready for my tap dance to Elvis Presley’s ‘Jail House Rock’ but no way was I missing her 1st recital on point. I snuck onto the backstage and watched every second of her dance. I was totally entranced. She looked so regal and grown up to me at her 13 years of age. I still to this day remember her white costume dress and the scratchy tulle underneath it, the color of all the the ribbons and how beautiful and graceful she was up there. I’ll never forget Scarborough Fair sweet sister and you looking like a princess on that stage. 🥇👭💕💜💕👭🥇
Although I always regarded this song with admiration, listening to this again after many years is revelatory. What a great job they did with every part of this song: vocals, arrangement, instrumentation. Honorable to the traditional but transcendent and beautiful as a modern song. Wow.
This made up version and the accompanying video suck. A very beautiful song, as-is, no need to muck with it.
12/18/1980 I lost my true love she died in my arms
I Love songs that tell stories and i love soft songs, i discovered this song on Friday, December 13, 2019 and i love this song along with sound of silence. Theres just something so magical about this song and its lyrics and when i first heard it i literally went into a dream like state, and i felt like i was in heaven. So thank you Simon and Garfunkel you both have made such a difference in my life and in many others.
Read up /or google up 'Scarborough Fair'...I was amazed of the history.
넘.좋아서.감상하며.들어요.
I can't see a shit from the lyrics.
I'm here because I have a choir solo to this song
**_Touhou joke here_**
This song turns me on but makes me feel like i want to cry.
Exactly
Hey guys not being insensitive but this can be perfect for candyman's theme in Jordan Peele's much more cerebral reboot of the series.
Ein wunderschönes Lied... an die Liebe 👍
Magdalena Ein wirklich schönes Lied. Besser als ichs in Erinnerung hatte
I don't think pic in 2:23 is exactly the right choice for this song....
But of course, everyone has taste of her own.
Sukasuka

Me and my peers are learning this song, truly its beautiful song. I have never heard something so magical!
喜歡那種不間斷的掛念
喜歡希望對方為自己摘星星的少女情懷
但是不喜歡用“你就會是我的真愛“這種方式勒索對方的情感 不喜歡愛被拿來當作條件交換
I am here from the anime ..so beautiful
Enlightening
I don't know why, but this song really reminds me of LoTR
Who's listening to this hauntingly beautiful song in 2020? Yeah, me neither, but soon, very soon

I want to go to Scarborough Fair so bad.
next time avoid to animate the text, it make me sick
Reminds me of skyrim
Are you going to Sham Sui Po fair?
Licorice, mint, rosemary and thyme
Remember me to one who lived there
She once was a true love of mine
Tell her to make me a bamboo hand lamp
(On the side of a hill in the deep forest green)
Licorice, mint, rosemary and thyme
(Tracing a sparrow on leaf-falling ground)
Without no seams nor needlework
(Blankets and bedclothes the child of the mountain)
Then she’ll be a true love of mine
(Sleeps unaware of the loud siren call)
Tell her to find me an acre of land
(On the side of a hill, a sprinkling of leaves)
Licorice, mint, rosemary and thyme
(Washes the grave with silvery tears)
Between the salt water and the CU
(A student cleans and polishes a cocktail)
Then she’ll be a true love of mine
Tell her to reap it in a sickle of leather
(Defense starts, blazing in inky battalions)
Licorice, mint, rosemary and thyme
(Leaders pleaded for their brothers to stand)
And gather it all in a bunch of heather
(And to fight for a cause they’ve never forgotten)
Then she‘ll be a true love of mine
Are you going to Sham Sui Po fair?
Licorice, mint, rosemary and thyme
Remember me to one who lived there
She once was a true love of mine
This recreation of the song is to describe the fight for five demands raised in the anti-extradition-law social movement in Hong Kong.
Long story short the government posted an extradition bill that can take anyone to China to be judged for their crimes that they may or may not have committed, and the judging process is not human and a lot of scary things can be done to the extradited personals. People opposed but the government pretended that it’s fine and continue to make the law a real thing(6.12), so people rushed into the law registration place to stop the law making. On that day police showed the head of their brutality. Government described that as riots and after that day the Hong Kong protesters raised five demands for the government to answer.
Government continued to ignore people and made most of the protests illegal, and police continued to abuse tear gas and soft bullets, both of which are lethal if used right.
Low level mafia and government supporters cut protester. Corpses found raised from 2226 in 2018 to 2537 in 2019.
Things escalated, 7.21 white-shirted rioters beat citizens indifferently with bamboo sticks and iron pipes and police station in that area rolled down their iron gate, police hotline died off and around 30 minuets later, after the white-shirted people left the police arrived, after the police left the guys came back in and continued the beating.
Among the hundreds of white-shirted people, around 20 were arrested afterwards and 2 were charged normal assault.
And then people got arrested for having star-viewing pens in his backpack, while a person with a knife sing country album and go careless and free even when the act was clearly recorded.
On the day of 8.31, a blue-shirted person cut people with a knife in the metro, people called the police and the police went in the metro and beat each and every citizen. The metro had cctv but the recording was never released to find out the truth, because only the police can ask for the cctv recordings. Oh yeah, first aids were blocked outside the station.
On 10.1, the anniversary when Hong Kong returned to China, people doesn’t like China at all and acted sad and made a protest, police used a live bullet and people shot, currently recovered.
More live bullets and more mafias and more escalations later, people made a citywide strike. Students in universities roadblocked the road near their universities to give the workers reason to not work without consequences, as there is NO union. Police kept on attacking the universities with tear gas and all kinds of bullets. Students used Molotov and roadblocks for area denial. Chinese University of Hong Kong(CU) survived the attack but Polytechnic University (PolyU) didn’t, polyu got totally surrounded and a lot of people were arrested and charged for rioting(???).
So yeah this song gave me determination for recreation.
These are the five demands: *remove the extradition bill and never mention again(removed) *remove the description of riot for the protesters(normal assault for protesters only without serious damage > riot, 3yrs>10yrs)(aiding protestors > riot, no offense > 10 years) * Amnesty for protestor seeking justice *Investigate police brutality used in the social movement *Bring real democracy to Hong Kong.
FIVE DEMAND, NO ONE LESS!
I'm here November 2019
This song is a beautiful "Timeless Classic" which is performed wonderfully by the perfect
vocal harmonies of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.
Magically medieval.
Who else is a choir kid lol
No but i'll take a sage..uhh i mean some 😄
When the video is posted on your birthday and you feel special
I'm here from Kanato and Teddy
Anybody here after watching WorldEnd. I’m so sad.
I think this is a epic and beautiful song ❤️
Wonderfull...i love this song
This is probably the most poetic way to say that your girlfriend left you.
Always loved that song to this day. I even sing that song to this day. Memorable song like no other.
Und die Quintessenz dieses wundervollen Liedes ist:
Es kommt nicht..... darauf an, ob...... man die unlösbaren Aufgaben löst, sondern auf den Versuch.
First Heard this Hanging out in Cambridge Mass in the 60's.. Anti War Song.
I'm an old fart also, but I never considered this to be an anti-war song. Maybe I just never had that sort of liberal mind that can read things into something that is just not related. It's like when my college English professor asked what was the symbolism of some character in a novel wearing white. I learned that "she had someone else to do her laundry" was not the right answer. Probably why I became an engineer -- concrete questions, concrete answers.
Oldies but goodies
First draft version; "Are you going to Bridlington Fair? No, I went last year. It was shit".
quem negativa uma musica desta come merda, relincha, usa ferradira.
I so so love this song
I like it very much. The song gives me peace.
That picture at 3:28 tho
Fantastic song - I'm from near Scarborough in Yorkshire, but what the fuck is this video?
That Paul Simon would steal someones arrangement on a public domain piece I'm sure surprises nobody; the man's a twat. Still, S and G's version is beautiful, and brought this ancient ballad back to life. i've only recently learned it's an old English song, but it has less to do with romance and more to do with advertising a major event, sung by bards as they traveled through different towns. ( And Now We Know...) I've been doing some research and there seems to be many different versions, with no specific verses. However, Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme seem to be considered the 'classic' verse. There's another popular version sans the representative herbs, that paints the story of romance and yearning in drab lifeless colors, and it falls flat.
A beautiful song, but the anti Vietnam war lyrics strike me as rancid in 2019.
They are anti-war lyrics (not just Vietnam). I know that sometimes tyrannical regimes have to be overthrown, but surely any sane person is anti-war?
I must be the omoast emotional guy ever, i cant stop crying...
Another of my favourites!
Partly sage, rosemary at times
Peaceful social activities as war rages on. Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Here in Dallas, Texas we have "Scarborough Faire" every spring, a medieval festival.
Aku suka
this is an abomination to hear with a headset.
only have some part of the sound in 1 ear.
Hello from SukaSuka.
I can tell Tame Impala was inspired by this
Scarborough is in Canada.
How many didn't know it was an anti-war song?
Men aren't going to find such true love due to the rise of feminism.

I've love this song 😏
Elegant song.
Thanks for the Canticle Lyrics!
"... On the side of the hill - a sprinkling of leaves .."
"... washes the grave with silvery tears ..."
"A General orders his soldiers to kill ... to fight for a cause ... they've
long ago forgotten"!
Poetry!
Who is here because their teacher sang it in class
i wouldn't even know which vocal is the leading one xdd
The exquisite magical world these voices create in the most difficult harmony - two parts trances me every time.
tell you what; the first time I LISTENED to this, not just "heard" it, I had taken LSD. there's so much going on in the song. the medieval background takes you there, man, right to the fair. except the song's actually about a break-up I believe.
this song would fit perfectly in Elder Scrolls.
TTIG yes
Listen to The Sound of Silence and think about online chat.
Well, actually well done. Except the delayed appearing of lyrics. Sliding in Maybe wasnt a good idea.
Yea I agree lol
One if the best two part harmonies ever. Grew up listening to this as well as other great singers back in that time. Always love this song.
Talk about perfect prosody. A masterpiece.
merci à tous pour ces explications, j'adore cette chanson.
Kanato Sakamaki sent me here
Lol I remember singing this with my sister while she played the piano!!!
Love this song, knew a guy once who played it on guitar, but he wasn't very good. Completely butchered it. My husband sings it beautifully.
Porco dio i compiti di inglese sono una rottura di coglioni
So beautiful 🙏🏻

Viva YouTube y las cosas buenas como estas canciones!!! Gracias!!!
Preciosa!!! Gracias!!!
this sin't a full version, its just the same song twice in a row.
Each one got his inner world where this song takes place
Beautiful. Thanks for all the lyrics.
There is just something Mystical and Epic about this song, truly medieval sounding.
The Graduate brought me here tonight. Posters have written this is from a dead soldier, but another source (Wikipedia) has written the song implies the tale of a man who asks a third party to tell his former love in Scarborough to perform a series of impossible tasks and then he will take her back in his affections. Also, it’s usually sung as a duet and the female also her own set of impossible tasks for him to accomplish and then she will give him his shirt and her heart when he has finished. The female lyrics are also written in the article. I hope people will read the article as it’s very interesting.
I had that album, fifty years ago. Time, time, time, see what's become of me...
amen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
