Carly Simon - Half A Chance Lyrics

You said we'd light the firmament
You said our love was permanent
You said we'd stick through thick and thin
Through up and down, through lose and win
But comes the first sign of stormy weather
You're packin' your bags in the trance
But you gotta give

[Chorus:]
Half a chance
Half a chance
Half a chance
To our romance

you can't pretend it's Camelot
Then start to run when things get hot
When love explodes there's always heat
There's always bitter with the sweet
There's always times when your legs feel broken
But you still don't drop out of the dance
You gotta give

Half a chance
Half a chance
Half a chance
To our romance

Carly Simon Half A Chance Comments
  1. K.... L....

It's inscribed into my heart, this album. Georgia in Autumn of 1977. I miss you stepdad.

I was just dozing in my chair in like a Twilight half sleep state, this song came to mind and I just looked it up in here it is!

Bought this on vinyl shortly after it was released in 1976. Great album, star studded cast of supporting musicians. This YouTube listing, however, is missing three songs from the B side of the record. Check out Wikipedia entry for the album. Shame, as one of the missing songs is what I consider the best on the album, a very smooth cut titled "Riverboat Gambler".

This whole album is brilliant and one of her best. It has since become a fan favorite. I think it was "too good" to be a commercial hit at the time.

Brilliant tune from 1976 by Carly Simon. It was released on Elektra as a single in the UK, but never charted. I guess for that reason it never features on any of Carly's collections/hits albums. Should have been at least a top 20 hit.

    incredible ...song x

    You gotta.

  9. H.... S....

And, it was the Doobie Brothers in the background doing the instrumentation!

    H.... S....

    Actually just Mike McD

  10. J.... B....

    Doesn't get better.

  11. R.... M....

The hit single that never was.

    Ricardo Monteiro, absolutely.

Must agree. Wonder why ? The LP also was a disappointment in sales.
Playing Possum also suffered the same fate. Go figure.
Some of her best 70's music was on those two LP's. IMHO.

    Perfect

i originally thought this was the single from the lp as Carly sang this on SNL and i loved how it just flowed and thought this will b a top ten hit!! once again, i was wrong and never understood what the record company was thinking of not to release this great song as the single. so many missed chances.

It was released as a single.  Made#39 AC chart.  Just wasn't promoted properly

@Richard Zimmerman Carly has admitted that the whole album was not mixed to her liking. This song, her vocals should have been on top for a single.
