So much misinformation out there about this song... I emailed the producer of this demo, Ken Cedar, 15 years ago and he said it was recorded the day after the infamous party where Mariah handed her demo tape to Tommy Mottola, so this was not part of her demo (besides, AFAIK her demo only contained songs she wrote, so that rules out this song). Ken estimated she was around 19. I don't recall off the top of my head when Mariah met Tommy but I think that was about right, or maybe 18.

It wasn't on the demo tape. I did some more research. Apparently, Mariah and Ben wrote Someday together, before she got signed. Someday was on the demo tape, so that suggests Weakness of The Body was written for Brenda and they couldn't have it on the demo tape? I don't know I'm just speculating at this point.

So this is really her. I remember hearing this song a few years ago on Youtube but I wasn't sure. I really feel like this was her natural voice. More true to what she could do day to day. The first album was just too much for her. And they compared her to Whitney Houston. Boy was that a *stretch!* Anyway, this is cute. I like it.

Lol it wasn't a stretch. Mariah was bounds ahead of Whitney in terms of actual tone, technique, and range. What Mariah could do in one song, Whitney couldn't do in a full album. The only reason her voice deteriorated a bit was because of the overuse, and her nodules (same as Whitney). This song would be a breeze for Mimi, even now.
