Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - Sure 'Nuff 'n Yes I Do Lyrics
Well I was born in the desert came on up from New Orleans
Came up on a tornado sunlight in the sky
I went around all day with the moon sticking in my eye
Hey hey hey all you young girls wherever you're at
Sure 'nuff baby sure 'nuff 'n' yes I do
Got the time to teach ya' now, bet you'll learn some too
Got the time to teach ya' now, bet you'll learn some too
Sure 'nuff baby sure 'nuff 'n' yes I do
Hey hey hey all you young girls whatever you do
Hey hey hey all you young girls whatever you do
Well come on by and see me I'll make it worth it to you
...With me and I'll ...with me and you
Stick with me and I'll stick with me and you

So good, what a band. And listen to that harp break.
I dig this sound much more than the Trout Mask sound personally.
fan fucckkiin tastic. the intro is legendary. alex st Claire?
I think this is the coolest thing ever filmed. But I’m a bias fan.
Rip off of Howlin Wolf's "Down in The Bottom".....Fuck Captain Beefheart.
For me "safe as milk" was one of the best rock album ever released.I don't know if many people in France knew who capitain beefhearth was in 1968, but he had a lot of succes in the 70's in France and Germany.Anyway i love this band and this footages,I wish I was there the 27th of jannuary 1968,on the private beach of the Martinez Hôtel, during the second Midem (it's à Big market for the producers and record industry).it was for the TV show"bouton rouge"("Red Button").this extract of the show is really awesome). I love Also "click clack" who was performed at a german TV in 1972
Found a captain beefyeart record in thrift store..album looked and sounded bonkers..im 40 something had to find out what this was about....OMG lol I missed out on a lot this is amazing!!!
I don't think I've ever heard or seen a tighter band. Holy shit.
Wow, these guys where great! 👍
Ry Cooder is such a bad-ass.
That guy was far out.
If Lucifer decided to play the blues, it would sound like Captain Beefheart.
Dead-on analysis. I have been failing to figure out how to put his appeal into words and I think you totally nailed it with that comparison. He just has this quality to his voice that's sort of sinister and strong; totally captivating and draws you in further and further the longer you listen. Hypnotic. What makes is more interesting is that it's not what most would consider a traditionally "good" voice, but man, it just totally pulls you in and I find it so fascinating to hear but I can't tell you why exactly, I'm even struggling to find the right words here in this comment to describe what I think about it. He just has that Luciferian kind of smooth and seductive, yet raw, voice that makes you feel like putty in his hands.
@STSGuitar16 When The Magic Band met The Devil at the Crossroads, he was a bit hungover on moonshine, so he messed up tunning their instruments, he couldn't even remember what he actually came for...
Weird gig.
GGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!
This is the only reason we humans have been put on this planet for..... everything else we do is .....meh.......think about it
These guys were magical at the time...compared with what's around these days they're Sacred Titans of Transcendence!!
Does anyone know what the slide guitar is tuned too?

Happy Birthday
THIS IS GARBAGE

You can really hear the Robert Johnson influence in this, esp from If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day
Would be nice if they manned out..show the whole band

Isn't he hot in that hat and coat?
Just figured how to play this on slide guitar.

The Best !
Man,this is always going to be good
Only just realised this but this song sounds very similar to drinking muddy water by the yardbirds listen closely
Is it a coincidence that this video was put on YouTube the day after captain beefhearts passing?
I would rate this among the best live performance videos on youtube.
Fkin durty!!
God music was great in the 60s nothing close to the crap that’s churned out these days
50 years ago! Incredible!
probably one of the most amazing film and audio clips of all time, never get tired of watching this video and listening to this track. My favorite of them is Diddy Wah Diddy but this comes a very close second to me as far as Beefheart goes!
Great Googily Moogily!
Cpt beef is the shit

Is that Ry Cooder on slide? His face barely visible in the background during the last few seconds of the song, but it sure sounds like his playing. And, yes, the brief look seems to show his face.
Ry Cooder played on the album version of this song, but not in this live performance. Listen to the album version and hear how much smoother Ry is.
So, do you know who actually played live on this gig? I have seen photos of Ry from that era wearing a wide brim hat, as did Taj Mahal in the Rising Sons.
Alex Snouffer on slide (aka Alex St Clair), Jeff Cotton on the other guitar (aka Antennae Jimmy Semens), John French on drums (aka Drumbo) and Jerry Handley on bass.
Jeff Cotton also played with Merrell and the Exiles, and later with MU. John French later played in the band Mallard, and still tours under the name The Magic Band.
I just watched this video again and realized it never shows the lead guitarist's face at all until the last 5 seconds. But there's another video from this French beach concert that shows more of him:
https://youtu.be/4_QCjmZnUmM
Also there's kind of a famous photograph of this concert that was used for the cover of some record guide, and in this second clip you can see video of the photographer taking the photo.
My kinda drinking buddies ,for sure !!
First track on Safe as Milk Album Recorded Spring 1967 RCA Studios, Los Angeles Released Late June 1967... this is just over 6 months after releasewow
CAPTAIN WE LOVE THE MUSIC
Some kick azz slide, right there and it ain't Ry Cooder
Looks like he's gonna punch the camera man out at 1:16
Thank You!
1968 and we are still enjoying it, class is timeless.
Lord and Lady Hogsniffer offer our deepest gratitude.
Absolutely brilliant. If you can't tap your foot to this you must be dead!
One amazing fella, he !! ; it's as if Howlin' Wolf had played odd 'time signatures' !!
Woah. I'm totally new to this guy. This sounds like an old western blues sort of thing. So cool.
cosa linda!
In 1970 made my acid better.
This is cool, they should have stayed a Rock & Blues band because the later experimental stuff is just too weird and not that great either.
Legendo,slušamo te i u Hrvatskoj.
Traveling riverside blues R. Johnson :D
saw these boys in '69. what a blast. opened me up to the possibility of California and then .....I went all over Northern Cali. kids those days were called "hippies" if they practiced alternative lifestyles and dressed certain ways- i said that for the benefit of all the millenials - anyway i joined in with a bunch of hippies and lived in the Northern California towns near Santa Cruz. the whole world has changed since those days! but have i got memories!!
Much Love to Don.....Tropical Hot Dogs for dinner again?
The Anti-Captain & Tennille
The perfect 'music video'
Now that's music!
Bam Margera hasn't changed a bit.
such a killer performance
Just a random probably incorrect thought, but you need to suffer a lot to make music THIS good.
The good Captain, so excellent as usual, not like the shite of today, I was lucky to see him with his Magic Band at Sheffield City Hall in 1973 & 1974. Fantastic days when bands artists performed live and no bullshit.
Now I know where Kings of Leon took their influence from....
Joel Fernandes Yeah hear a close similarity, at least the lead singer was inspired...
Majestic.
this shit is so good
The Captain was/still is The Man. Best Band ever. Safe As Milk one the most original music albums of all time. Glad to have seen him twice in Newcastle, England in the early 70's.
with the master of slide himself, Ry Cooder, bloody legend !!
that is Ry Cooder?!?!
not Ry Cooder, Alex st Clair Snouffer on slide here. Ry officially quit the band after one performance, the previous year.
Correct
Ry Cooder plays slide in the album version of this song
..*!*..
Imagine going to the beach and finding the good old Captain & the Magic Band playing some tunes
Daniel Zagotta id shit a brick man
I would think something like "Holy shit I love my drug dealer"
Daniel Zagotta awesome comment, I wish man!!!
Pure surrealism
Beefheart always dressed cool. When mere mortals were wearing high heels and spandex trousers - the Beefheart looked like a snake oil sales man, Cool as Fuck
Yup. The insane coke soaked 70s, mad clothes, but brilliant music. I was a child in the 70s but remember it all. But i always had a thing for the 60s. In the 70s i'd have dressed like this. Born '68 and PROUD.
I saw Beefheart & Co. at Pepperland in 67 I believe. San Rafael, Calif. Good music still going on and yet to happen. Your time is now, mine too.
very cool song
love it
and Croatia love Beef
Sounds a lot like Howlin Wolf's "down in the bottom". Great song though.
It's how the spirit of music can travel and tell the story of men, blues everything ! when it found a boat, a starship a howlin' wolf or a beefheart :)
Right, the same riff, Great !!!
also 'rollin & tumblin' traditional recorded by many
Yes indeed that is a very precise comment.
Marvin S....you are very right, just like Patrick said
Also sounds a lot like drinking muddy water by the yardbirds
Another class song from the captain. 👌
Fabulous!
Thanks Mr. Funky stein. Stick to me...A post modern calypso intuitous musician overlooking his sheep in the valley of commercialism.
Fooling around listening to covers, you realise how good this is. See what I mean?
What tuning is?
pretty sure it is open g.
+David Clement thank you mate
great song, video FunkensteinJr, pure class..
I was roady for Beefheart in Newcastle in 1969. This was the first song in the set. I've never been the same since!
I followed The Captain around for two years back in '67 right out of high school. No one made no fuss about being of age like they do now. If you want to talk about a higher learning look no further. I eventually made it backstage in '68 at the Whiskey and was literally blown away...life was different back then and you didn't talk too much about the things you did in your private life...hence; private. But Bob was indeed living a "free" life and loved and cared for many a fan...If y'all got a problem with that I think you should take a look in the mirror.
MrTimBranston quite a feather in your cap
You lucky lucky bastard....
you lucky basterd
Durham here. Small word. Awesome stuff.
