Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - Pachuco Cadaver Lyrics

A squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag is fast and bulbous, got me?

When she wears her bolero then she begin to dance
All the pachucos start withholding hands
When she drives her Chevy, sissies don't dare to glance
Yellow jackets and red devils buzzing 'round her hair hive ho

She wears her past like a present
Takes her fancy in the past
Her sedan skims along the floorboard
Her two pipes humming carbon cum

Got her wheel out of a B-29 Bomber
Brody knob amber
Spanish fringe and talcum tassles
Forever amber

She looks like an old squaw Indian
She's ninety-nine she won't go down
Avocado green and alfalfa yellow
Adorn her to the ground

Tattoos and tarnished utensils
A snow white bag full of tunes
Drives a cartoon around
Drives a cartoon around

Broma seltzer blue umbrella
Keeps her up off the ground
Round red sombreros
Wrap her high tap horsey shoes

When she unfolds her umbrella
Pachucos got the blues
Her loving makes me so happy
If I smiled I'd crack my chin

Her eyes are so peaceful
Thinks it's heaven she been
Her skin is as smooth as the daisies
In the center where the sun shines in
Smiles as sweet as honey
Her teeth as clean as the combs where the bees go in

When she walks, flowers surround her
Let their nectar come in to the air around her
She loves, her love sticks out like stars
Her loving stick out like stars

  6. A.... C....

The Magic Band are so 'tight' on this track, goes to prove all the rehearsals paid off

  7. a.... c....

I am writing another comment so it won’t be hidden away .Many talk about not liking his music at first . For Me when it comes to classical music some bach pieces are so advanced that it takes several hearings before I hear them fully , but as far as Captain Beefhearts music this has never been the case. I heard him for the first time when I was about 13-14 years old and I fell in love. I saw him in live 3 times . One time he was doing one of his vocal things “ bubbles popped big and a lipstick Kleenex hung on a pointed fork-ed twig “ and somebody must’ve been heckling him I don’t see how he knew who it was and where it came from because I never even heard it , but he stopped in the middle of the song and told the security guards to escort that person out and not allow them back in ,then promptly went right back and finished his song . He was obviously very in tune and a very eccentric clean spiritual person a lot of his songs you quotes right out of the Bible .I see his music as a Constant struggle and turmoil of life right and wrong butting heads locking horns if You would

  8. a.... c....

I saw Captain Beefheart 3 times and I will say there was nothing else to compare His music is wonderful and nothing like it But to be under its spell live was nothing less than Music heaven

  9. B.... ....

I love the Captain's contributions on Bongo Fury.

  10. D.... ....

    When a song starts with
'Squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag is fast and bulbous' you know you're in for a wild ride !

  11. O.... S....

    🔥👌

  12. F.... C....

    Y Pettinato?

  13. t.... S....

Actually, Beefheart... that’s just a guy who mimicked the voice of Howlin’ wolf with a vernis of dada surrealistic European ideas. Nothing new under the sun

  14. e.... ....

    1:42 She 99, she won't go down

  15. D.... V....

i wanted to kill myself than i listened to this and i understood life can't be bad if humans could make this

  16. C.... W....

    Bulbous yet reassuringly tapered.

  17. I.... E....

    Is this polyrhythmic and polymetric?

  18. T.... G....

    This album is pure genius

  19. R.... D....

How can you not jam out to this song

  20. j.... ....

Holy fucking shit this song needs more recognition

  21. R.... W....

I bet this was an inspiration for candypants 😆

  22. B.... M....

One of my fav tracks, I learned to play along on my gitbox so much fun.

  23. P.... E....

    It's genius. It's catchy. What's your problem?

  24. B.... M....

Doing Peruvian pink cocaine and reading about the 1953 coup in Guatemala brought me here

  25. O.... t....

"Let's just play some notes in a random order and pretentious music enthusiasts will be moved!"

    O.... t....

May be good. May be bad. Definitely not random.

  26. e.... B....

Zappa is good, Beefheart is the real stuff.......!!

  27. D.... N....

My father used to told me to listen to this record with him when I was like 7-8 years old. Lol wtf was he thinking? Thnx dad!

  28. E.... H....

Once, in one of our visits, I carried two empty LP covers, plus some other unusual weird stuff to Dali's house, circa 1971. One was "Freak Out" and the other was "Trout Mask Replica", thinking that he might become fond of the LPs, we left the precious vinyl home, not far from Port -Lligat, much concerned about not to strand them. At that time, things were not as easy as it became since the CD advent, not to mention the Internet. At least if we lost the covers we would have the records to listen to. Our mission was to show him about how the indisputable 'Kings' of the underground, recognized and were paying unusual respect to the number one surreal madness Maverick of the world and as Zappa did on that LP. And Beefheart's homage with that extraordinary and unsurpassed composition. Dali did not go any further than browsing them and pushed them back into my portofolio. Dali was 65 years old then. Though we were eager to show him how important such gestures were, it might as it did look, seem too mundane for him as there was, I suppose nobody else but him that could praise him. But explain, somehow, how the British were his best admires (refereeing to Edward James, et al). Later on, that afternoon, as we were leaving the patio, he gave us the news, that somehow shocked us, after some goings about the 'evils' of drugs, as he thought we were lost and bamboozled in a world of subjectivity, when he announced us what it seemed as nobody else could know at such stage of things, and though I knew Alice Cooper was part of Zappa's Label. My opinion there, was, if in my thoughts, how come Dali could waste his time with such 'lesser' act ?. But he explain it enthusiastically, he would be doing a show in New York with him, in case we could follow him. That we kept it a best hidden secret for years, till it has grown in the public awareness and became sort of public domain. Somehow, something that was impossible for us, if to travel to the States though I was living in England...

    E.... H....

I'm really interested in this. So essentially you were carrying across Dali's influence on the US counterculture, but he was already dismissive?

  29. F.... B....

Pervatine Iranian opium 1978 and this album .I think made me and my friends at the time go over into a otherdimension there now al dead or i sane as am I 10110110001109109100101010154q000010q010uq09uqp if you crack this code you will save the planet earth from total destruction in 2027 so get on it ok

  31. K.... M....

She 99, she won't go down

  32. A.... D....

    Excellent

  33. c.... ....

If I ever get married I want this song played at the wedding reception for the first dance for the new couple.

    c.... ....

Yes, have the band learn it and also "You're Something Special To Me" by The Shaggs for your special day.

  34. J.... O....

A rattled bone marrow paradise trundling trickily thro' the fair-fingered forest which enraptured all! Dalliances and Daisy Duke delivery floats gruffly to the gun-point pantaloon pretenders. Cartoon caricatures breath lustily and weave rustily through various vivisection villas in Vietnam. The Cap'n Jazz Crocodile commander completes the chaotic chasm!

  36. A.... W....

My god, he must’ve been legally insane...

    A.... W....

And legally gifted at the same time

    A.... W....

@Andrew Winters Bell he was actually a schizophrenic.

    A.... W....

Nathaniel Wagner I believe it. Makes a lot of sense.

  37. D.... V....

It's like I'm listening to Tom Waits with a completely out-of-place backup band. The legacy the Cpt. has left is beyond comprehension.

    D.... V....

He and The Magic Band are a tremendously important influence on Tom Waits.

  38. D.... C....

    Got me?

  39. C.... A....

Bob Dylan was NOT a poet! Billy Joel CERTAINLY is not a poet!! Don Van Vliet, for everything else he was, was first and foremost a poet and this may be his greatest and most amusing poem. FAST AND BULBOUS, GOT ME!?!

    C.... A....

Cedric Awspam Idk man, Dylan was pretty poetic

    C.... A....

    Dylan was an amazing poet

    C.... A....

He was a sculptor first and it's reflected through whatever medium he chose to express himself with

  40. s.... b....

After you listen to it 100 times or so, the middle of the song becomes the catchy part...

  41. s.... b....

First person view of a car in a Mexican parade

  42. M.... B....

Well i came here after listening to genesis,VdGG,gentle giant and KC...I dunno, its definitely good but i dont think its near those bands in terms of quality. Prog country music :)

  43. T.... H....

2:10 and on is pure euphoria. I can't help but smile while listening :)

    T.... H....

I agree about the euphoria. The riff is based on "Shortnin' Bread".

    T.... H....

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4v5rsEa9vUI

  44. T.... D....

I feel confused! Everything I thought I knew about music was wrong!

  45. O.... ....

The 4/4 riff doesn’t even register as 4/4 to me

    O.... ....

It's pretty interesting: First riff has a rock shuffle feel, both guitars riffs use nested triplets at different spots while the bass is going completely against the grain. Definitely not straight 4/4

  46. R.... S....

Just when you are beginning to tire of the initial groove, up pops another one at 2:13 to maintain your interest. Love this song.

  47. m.... b....

Best song from the album, imo. That part the right guitar plays starting at 00:20 in is one of the catchiest things I've heard. Love it

  48. M.... W....

Fast and bulbous, but is it tapered?

    M.... W....

    also a tin teardrop

    M.... W....

    That’s right, The Mascara Snake!

    M.... W....

    Tight also

  49. T.... L....

I love how the sax starts and slowly drifts ahead of time. I'm guessing that it might have been overdubbed without the rest of the track playing. Either way, it's bonkers.

  50. D.... H....

Yes, but is it really poetry.

  51. J.... ....

The main guitar riff is actually pretty conventional. If you're getting lost in the rest of the cacophony, just hang onto that.

    J.... ....

And that could also work with pretty much the rest of the album (except the acapella tracks, of course 😅). As a guitarist myself, the moment I started to listen to TMR focusing on the guitars was when it began to click for me. A new world revealed indeed.

    J.... ....

oh, and BTW, if you're a drummer reading this: you just can't miss this album.
John French was on another level. Peak of his game throughout the whole record.

  52. n.... ....

    GOT ME?

    n.... ....

    A song about fucking?

  53. c.... ....

    The happiest song ever written.

  54. S.... ....

the bassline in this is so fucking nuts i love it

  55. I.... B....

One of em walrus thing if ya ask me.

  56. s.... s....

    Gotta dig on that outro

  57. J.... M....

Most entertaining comment section in YouTube. Thanks for the laughs.

  58. D.... W....

At last, a normal song! I love the riff at the end, very catchy ... the guitar interplay is beautiful. John French's drumming is impeccable (allegedly he had pieces of cardboard on his drum heads to muffle them).

  59. L.... ....

    F A S T A N D B U L B O U S

    L.... ....

Also, a tin teardrop (the mascara snake)

    PS: BURN HOLLYWOOD BURN

  60. J.... D....

I have to remind myself to listen to this on acid

    J.... D....

Jose Diaz I know I always forget

    J.... D....

First time i listened to it was on acid. I had the wiki article for it open like “ehh this isnt as weird as people say...”

Then i put it on two days later sober, and i was like “okay yeah this is weird as hell”

    J.... D....

mr walkway ha ha yeah... it's been decades since I dropped but wtf when peaking normal wallpaper was weird... I might not even have figured out that the sounds were music

  61. M.... M....

i find it strupendous then so many peons still connect with the universal truth of TMR.

  62. n.... ....

It sounds normal but there's something wrong about it at the same time.

    n.... ....

If I remember correctly, Captain Beefheart demanded perfection from his bandmates, going so far as to make them practice for fourteen hours a day.
It may sound wrong, but that is indeed intentional.

    n.... ....

Pretty much sums up the whole album.

    n.... ....

Nothing wrong only good old poly rhythmics mixed with poly harmonies.

    n.... ....

It sounds abnormal, but there's something completely right about it at the same time.

    n.... ....

    That was Beefheart. : )

  63. D.... G....

That fine line between madness and genius, with 1 foot on the line and the other on the side of madness!!

    D.... G....

In other words, _madness with a genius edge._

  64. a.... ....

when she walks, flowers surround her
let their nectar come into the air around her

    nice

  65. T.... T....

My fave of theirs and perhaps their best song. Love the warm and odd conventionality of it.

  66. E.... S....

If you like jazz this is really not too far out at all, not too hard to follow whatsoever. Oh, and if you dig poetry and painting too, then you're right at home. Play this on the nudist beach.

    E.... S....

    U right

    E.... S....

Damn, these recommendations are all too good. You guys got anything for free form?

    E.... S....

if you're into jazz fusion, definitely check out casiopea

    E.... S....

In similar style but with a bit of indian influence, how about *Mahavishnu Orchestra* ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0Sf6eDWB9s or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10a45mgMGcY
Favourite album: *The lost trident sessions*

Others: Albums The Inner Mounting Flame, Between Nothingness & Eternity, Visions of the Emerald Beyond.

    E.... S....

I am going to play this on 78 speed.

  67. W.... V....

Iv'e often thought Steve Howe's (Yes) guitar work on Close To The Edge would have sounded great on this album

    W.... V....

The opening of the song Close to the Edge might have been a great bed for Beefheart's rants.

  68. A.... B....

At 3:06 "Play it SAX MAN!!!"

    A.... B....

    Fucking play something Sax Man!

  69. P.... M....

i used to own this masterpeice, and i sold it, what a fuck wit..a squid eating doe in a polyethelene bag is fasten bulbous..GOT ME !

    P.... M....

Peter Maxwell It is on vinyl for about 30 dollars...I mean probably more then what you paid for it...but worth the investment!

  70. W.... S....

    Best song in the album.

    W.... S....

WOLF STAR one of the best for sure

  71. n.... ....

This is PURE GENIUS. Makes Bach or Beethoven seem like pikers.

    n.... ....

Different type of Genius to B and B. There is a gap of three/four of hundred years between B and B and Don!

    n.... ....

That comparison feels unfair to everyone involved

    n.... ....

Not really, but I really dig Beefheart and Bach

  72. L.... B....

    Abstract enlightenment....

    You’re such a fucking ho
    I love it

    a.... ....

Doesnt sound like shit, just doesn't sound normal

    a.... ....

@Chillionx experimental on a monumental level that's all.

  74. R.... F....

This music hironize to itself ...geniously!!! (sorry for my english)

  75. S.... ....

The drums past 2.15 are beyond description.

    S.... ....

Strazzvina The drumming is fantastic on this album

    S.... ....

Probably the greatest bit of drumming in the history of the world!

  76. F.... ....

    Best track on TMR

  77. S.... W....

It's true that ahcid will reveal all hidden depths;)

  78. R.... L....

In the history of music, few songs better demonstrate of the kind of a balancing act that it takes to fully express the strange idea of the chaotic rhythms of the universe.
Pachuco Cadaver is certainly a standout example of one these songs.

  79. D.... T....

This will sound pretentious, but you really have to concentrate, if you do this song is very catchy.

    D.... T....

Dom Tes You are absolutely correct and the fact this album goes from unlistenable to addicting from repeated listens is really a revelation!

    D.... T....

I find that's true with a lot of avant-garde and Jazz music.

    D.... T....

I love this music, and when I listen to music I like to bang my head to or foot too it, and this music is so hard too do with. XD. my one hand beats at one time signature while the other at a different time signuture

    D.... T....

Hotel andElevator1236 Haha yes I know exactly what you mean

    D.... T....

    O be very high

  80. 3.... ....

    Fast and bulbous!

    3.... ....

    Bulbuous, also tapered.

    3.... ....

@crescentfreshbret Yeah but you gotta wait for me to say, "also, a tin teardrop"

    3.... ....

    Willow Sparks hahaha... Christ!

    3.... ....

    that is right, maskara snake

    3.... ....

    Tight, also

  81. T.... K....

"her lovin' make me so happy/when I smile I crack my chin"....after 40-something years of listening to this album, that line still cracks me up....

    T.... K....

I crack up for the "dank drum and dung dust" line from "Neon Meate Dream of a Octafish."

    T.... K....

Now watch that it don't crack your chin up though

  82. L.... G....

...Stupid songs  --  but  wait   -  .ya  we'll  hmmmmmm ... yeah, okay  you win   - we'll call it music  (harumpffff cough cough ....[clears throat  ]  )

    L.... G....

    Are you OK? R u o k

    L.... G....

just fine  - and look at all the damage Justin Bieber AND Timberlake has done to music-such garbage .

    L.... G....

But Beefheart doesn't do music - he does SPELLS!

  83. J.... K....

    That sax tho..

  84. M.... a....

This track has always been my favorite.

    M.... a....

    Benb Gallaher definitely
