Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - Nowaday's a Woman Gotta Hit a Man Lyrics
Men you been lookin' all around for the women
But they always been right there
Nowadays a woman has to haul off and hit a man
T' make him know she's there
Other night a woman came up 'n hit me
Yeah, mmm dawned on me, man
That a man been doin' a woman unfair
Y' gotta wait for your woman
Let her know you're there
I knew I had to go out 'n tell all of the women
That I knew they were there
Now ev'rywhere I go the women all know that I know
Mmm, there ain't no other place to go but there
I'm talkin' about women
They don't have to hit me
To make me know it's there
None o' my women have tears in their eyes
You can ask 'em about me I swear
'N they'll tell you
That's one man I swear
Yeah that's a man
'Nuff about tellin' you this
Mmm, y' gotta wait for your woman
Let her know you're there
I knew I had to go out 'n tell all of the women
That I knew they were there
Now ev'rywhere I go the women all know
That I know
There ain't no, there ain't no other place to go but there
I'm talkin' about women
They don't have to hit me, man
To make me know it's there
None o' my women have tears in their eyes
You can ask 'em about me I swear

theres so much punk here too those guitars lol tight but loose, free they are improvising for certain
I could listen to that slide guitar instrumental break all damn day. So good
Hmm - compare this with Zappa's song Bamboozled by Love...
Strangely progressive for a shrieking schizophrenic hobo.
Awesome lyrics.....
Pue Nu Ohlins ;-)
the cap
brilliance
When I left home this was the only thing I owned .it wasn't a problem and I was happy and content and was grateful
This album is the bollox 😊 still have my original copy & it still gets thrashed 😊😊😊✌
Love, love, the Captain. May he rest in peace....
The slide and drums at 2.15 !! outstanding
Yeah, superb.
Fuckin brilliant!!
Clear Spot was the name of a tiny transparent gellatin square containing LSD. It was available during the early 1970s. Despite the miniscule size of the gellatin tab it produce a very big hallucinogenic trip lasting up to 24 hours.
I predict you won't be able to get some of these songs out of your head for days, enjoy!
I learned my lesson (ouch!) a million years ago
yes it is .
The Don
Que c'est bon d'écouter des morceaux pareils ! L'album est un petit bijou.
First 30 seconds flattens me every time
who the fuck are the rolling stones???
The Rolling Stones are also great musicians. Like scientists, musicians stand on the shoulders of giants. Don, Frank, Stevie Ray, Jimi and others were all giants, whether you like them or not.
I love the stones... i just say that this song sounds like or remember me Exile on main street.!!
The Stones were just a second rate cover band, who stole most most of their better, early material. But if you so much as look sideways at anything credited to Jagger & Richards, they will bend you over a barrel and litigate you until your teeth rattle. Miserly pair of old cunts. Fuck them in the eye. Compared to Beefheart, The Stones . . . . . well, they don't even get to be on the same page, and that's a big fuckin' book.
The Capt is wonderfull but don't dis the Stones man, bad Juju
For me its like really violent and angry hip hop. If I can crack up at the lyrics,
while appreciating all other elements involved. My level of enjoying the music knows no boundaries.
Violent hip hop? What?
Damn 2:30 is still amazing..
Bill Harkleroad!
Outside of being a complete masterpiece. Most music collectors who really know excellent music listen to this very album because if you made it this far you probably have a big record collection. Sheer masters at work.
Outside of the era. The influence. The genre. And Zappa. The craft of song writing and the total brilliance of each composition...no slacking off...each song is friggin brilliant. When horns show up...those horns are NEEDED, not just dressing. Astounding record as a flow of song writing and theme among all the recordings of any music ever....I mean whatever you think is the best...drop the lenses and listen to this album several times, headphones and loud. It will render most of all other musical adventures meaningless.
zoot horn rollo
Don said he wrote all his music for women.
The cover of this album-Clear Spot looks like a recording studio mixing desk set up but in fact it's from a planetarium.
The good Captain had a great sense of humor.
T.o.n.t.o. jump on it
The tongue-in-cheek sensuality of his lyrics exudes pure mischief and the music has the complementary naughty rawness to finish out a masterpiece of sound.
+softclay4thought Thank you for that information, I be wondering just what the front cover was since 1972. Deeply appreciated knowledge. And your right, He did have a good sense of humor. Remember on the albums? Who produced the albums? It's a God's Golf Ball Production right? Why? Because the captain viewed God's view of earth as a golf ball! Seriously.
A great album. More people should have listened to this.
Every time I hear this song I think of you, Mark and start dancing and hooting and hollering. I'm dancing for all of us, Myles in Exiles' and back again. With my bd just a few days away I will miss checking the mail for the best bd cards ever sent. God I miss you.
You're bouncing in your chairs, aren'tcha?
F'in right mate
Testosterone & funky music.
The good Captain at his best,.
The cover photo aint from a recording studio but a planetarium.
t'owreet lad. I also lived in Burnley at that time and was exposed to this by my brother Haydn who lived on Stoney Lane in Colne. Just in case, it's a small world.
i absolutely love beefheart, zappa, buddy guy, etc.. you're not the only black guy around that still loves the blues haha
"Y' gotta wait for your woman
Let her know you're there"
So simple yet so powerful
Remember his performance of this song at USC, (1972-73?). Pure talent. The Magic Band was just that. The Captain, the Captain. My 2 brothers, cousin, and I were the only black dudes there. I wonder if any more of us appreciated this white/bluesy "Howlin Wolf soundin, rockin', musician and poet. OOOOH!, that harmonica adds flava'.
That's dope man
Clear Spot was my fave when I was 18. More women should have understood him back then.
I love the deep complexity of this number. How do you respond to someone who rejects this as noise?
Good grief, I was 17. Where did it go??
ohhhh lord... oh don, have mercy on me... that is one intensely sexy song. pure genius. i know you're still here, don... i hear ya. i feel ya.
I remember dancing into a club in Colne, Lancashire to this in the 70s. It's impossible not to dance to this!
My favorite white boy boogy song. Dance those wall flowers right off the wall.
