Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - Making Love To A Vampire With A Monkey On My Knee Lyrics

Making love to a vampire with a monkey on my knee
The pond shined dry like a ladies compact
Lilies leaped like flat green hearts with white hearts
Squirting yellow pollen... cocks...
Ferns ran like cool spades... fossils... away from rocks
Bees echoed dark carbon hums that dashed in nothing
Gnats fucked my ears 'n nostrils
Hit my brain like hones 'n numbed to nothing
Wings stuck on liquid bones
Making love to a vampire with a monkey on my knee
The moon poured hollow down my milky leg
Splashed still 'n moved
The wind peed down the willows 'n pricked the needle vine
The monkey moved a fur shadow... its soot tail curled in twos
Its lips smiled needles... its eyes rolled loose
Her throat broke open... glistened in the dew
Red berries dangled like a dream of rubies too
Snot muscles ran down her ivory chin 'n tooth within
A locket... a pin held fast to then, my love, my pocket deep within
'N senses dangled the chain that clasped me to her then
The messenger spoke the wind that blows between our time
I sensed you then 'n whispers spin 'n flow in silver dust
Around the pointed pin
Sent to nothing
God, please fuck my mind for good
Making love to a vampire with a monkey on my knee
Oh fuck that thing... fuck that poem... eyes crawl out with maggots
White cloth bones pile up light thrown blades
Rags 'n skull... scoops soil cracks... drain screams... please
Take my hand 'n join me... too soon its clutches gleams
Making love to a vampire with a monkey on my knee
Death be damned... life

Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band Making Love To A Vampire With A Monkey On My Knee Comments
  1. O.... J....

My first Beefheart experience! it was on a tape a Draft Dodging "hippy" expat made me of current German faves like DAF, Ideal, Amon Duul II etc...guess the good Capt. had a Euro following...then came the Trout Mask Replica trip.......................

  2. D.... ....

    2019? Probably not

  3. I.... E....

    Speechless

  4. C.... T....

One of his all time greatest songs for sure.

  5. g.... w....

This song fucks my ears and nostrils ...AND I STILL LOVE IT !

  6. S.... D....

I wonder if this inspired Mars Volta's Cassandra Gemini. You know the part: "Perspired, the trophy shelves made room for his collapse..." The delivery is almost identical. And let's not forget Careful What You Wish For by Coil. Great minds think alike.

  7. g.... w....

From the beginning ...THE POND SHINED DRY LIKE A LADIES COMPACT . Thats fucking GENIUS !

  8. g.... w....

This stuff was so complex ... JUST BE HAPPY WE HAVE IT !!! It helps to get your IN-LAWS to go home too....UNLESS I'M YOUR INLAWS

  9. l.... p....

    😂😂😂😂

  10. A.... H....

    OH FUCK THAT THING!!!

i love the cap but i hate this song

From my second favorite album of his (1st being Trout Mask, of course). The imagery is so strong here, I'd love to see what a forward thinking animator would do with it. Not that it's necessary, I see it all happening in my head, like an dream on acid.

I'm always impressed by the fact that these guys could recreate these pieces exactly every time. I've read that Don was quite a task master and that during the making of Trout Mask Replica the band locked themselves up in a rehearsal home for months learning every note and nuance to the point they could play it in their sleep.THEN they recorded the album. You don't see that kind of discipline and dedication every day. The best part is it all sounds so loose and extemporaneous that one doesn't see the rigor behind the scenes giving it all such vibrancy and "off the cuff" magic.

    S.... M....

Definitely, props to those guys. Needless to say, Beefheart was a very unorthodox composer and his band often were playing stuff in multiple keys and tempos simultaneously. That's extremely hard to do and they were very precise.

  15. d.... ....

ferns ran like cool spades/fossils away from rocks;bees echoed dark carbon hums dashed in nothing

  16. D.... ....

"God please fuck my mind for good"

  17. A.... T....

one of the best pieces of art ever recorded! :)
I laugh with joy everyone I hear this one.

  18. a.... ....

    jhonn brought me here <3

  19. A.... ....

Most requested song in piano bars.

    A.... ....

    Its a sing a long everyone !

  20. D.... ....

I love this because it's like a bridge between the writing of Bukowski and the painting of Kazimir Malevich or Marcel Duchamp.

    D.... ....

Yeah, there's a lot of space to move around there.

  21. c.... ....

is that a car door closing effect i hear?

  22. d.... ....

It sounds like a painting come to life. I love this.

  23. A.... T....

this is where coil borrowed the God Please F My Mind For Good phrase from

    A.... T....

They recite that phrase on Backwards.

  24. V.... ....

    this is my jam

  25. j.... ....

The drug comments show how uncreative/unimaginative people are. This is originality not drugs, keep your acid to yourself, if you need it to enjoy this you dont understand what you're listening to. A genius.

    j.... ....

    don´t u ever yawn again

    j.... ....

I may not Need it to Enjoy it but It Sure Does Help lmfao

    j.... ....

Dude, THE CAPTAIN LOVED ACID ! And mayonaise ... He just was able to do something with it ! You either say EVERYTHINGS GROOVY or YOU CREATE AMAZING MUSIC / POETRY / ART

    j.... ....

One of the Beefheart biographies points out an amusing irony. The Captain was a hypochondriac and deathly afraid of dying of a heart attack like his father. He was very paranoid about taking any kind of medications, and would frequently turn up at an LA County hospital's emergency room, convinced that he was dying. At the same time, he would gladly accept whatever hard drugs any stranger would offer him, and consume them without a second thought.

    j.... ....

Beefheart did acid in the sixties & from the early 70s onward was pretty vocal about how bored of the stuff he'd become. By the time he wrote & recorded the material for Doc at the Radar Station he lived without any of that sorta stuff. The tired perspective that a unique or original creative type obviously must be high on some kind of substance was most succinctly dismissed by Salvador Dali, who responded. "I don't take drugs. I AM drugs."

  26. E.... ....

I feel like I have dropped brown acid.

  27. b.... ....

The best vampire imagery ever written
"Its lips smiled needles.. its eyes rolled loose
Her throat broke open... glistened in the dew
Red berries dangled like a dream of rubies too."

  28. a.... ....

gnats fuck my ears and nostrils

  29. A.... P....

I've always loved the end - a fanfare, and then dan-dan-da-dan (END)

  30. m.... ....

I gotta imagine this is what it sounds like to do acid. This may be the most wicked Beefheart song I've heard thus far. Thank you Captain for being such an original!

  31. M.... ....

    Scoops soil cracks!

  32. s.... ....

hate to be that guy but you might wanna check who came first

  33. L.... D....

Wow just wow... did he do a gram of acid before this performance? Unadulterated genius and madness. I got to thinking way too hard about how difficult it must be to make love to a vampire without the monkey somehow getting cheeky and making it a 3 way.... sorry for the visual image.

  34. S.... ....

I *think* I would...no, it's definite; there's no question I'd want to hear a death metal version of this!

  35. d.... ....

The band I'm in had a "contest" at the end of a gig with the bartender. He would play the hardest death metal, blasting loud until someone gave in. I played this tune and he said "you win dude".

  36. K.... M....

The title is hilarious, it also has a primus and Henry rollins feel.

  37. s.... ....

good tune for the 80s,Something I can relate to

  38. F.... ....

    Rest In Peace big man

  39. s.... ....

My very favorite lyric of the whole song "The moon poured hollow down my milky leg"

  40. S.... ....

    @sloanmidwestXTC lol

  41. s.... ....

    Interesting lyrics... =P

    Thumbs up Van
