Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - 25th Century Quaker Lyrics

Mayflower child met a 25th Century Quaker
She's a-pickin' poppies 'n
Bringin' them into her hue
Sun sifting through and through and through
Letting them all and all
Fill through

Me into you, me to you
Me to you, into you

Blue cheese faces laces
Blue cheese faces
Faces 'n phases 'n phases 'n faces

Going through the cottage cottage
Going through the cottage cottage
Going through the cottage cottage
Come with me baby, come with me
Come with me baby, come with me

Quaker child, Quaker baby child

But a man's flutter like fireflies
Eyes that flutter like a wide open shutter
Eyes that flutter like a wide open shutter
Shutter, shutter, shutter

Laces laces laces
Blue cheese faces
Mayflower child met uh
25th century quaker
She's uh pickin' poppies
Bringin' them into her hue

Sun just, sun just,
Sun dust sun just, siftin' through and through
And through...

Call me baby
Pay me, baby
Pay me

gosh, just when I thought being under the influence of McClelland's Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky couldn't get any more interesting...I come upon this song under the grand influence

I'd just like to say that this is my favourite Beefheart song. The lyrics are not the best and it never seems to get in those "Top ten best Beefheart songs" things but the way it just propels itself along, in no small part due to Mr. French's excellent drumming, not forgetting Don's harmonica and everything really, it's just splendiferous. There's so much else of note in the man's catalogue but this one, for me, is the dog's bollocks.

This song brings imagery that I do not wish to share... Maybe the blame lyes with me or maybe he intended it this way... Top tune just hope it's not about what I imagine!!!

@beatleneil for my or anybody's mirror..

    b.... ....

+beatleneil if he composed all the music himself i don't think any one would ever want to see him in the mirror.
the changes in rhythm and clashes of instruments start sounding really kick ass after first few minutes.
it radiates with savagery mixed with evil , it's a master piece but i seriously doubht that i would want to have his head on my shoulders.

    b.... ....

+131013y hmm..he ain't exactly James Dean, but i've seen worse..

I've been trying to figure that one out since 1969 when I first heard John Peel on the radio playing "Steal softly through the snow" - no probs. with that one as it was about the most accessible song on the album but most of the rest still has me foxed lol
