Cantrell, Jerry - What It Takes Lyrics

It takes a mountain of faith
River flowing pain
It takes a hammer on a nail
A whole lotta love... yeah...

It takes a lifetime of working
A touch of understanding
It takes a wind in the sails
Little children singing... yeah...

It takes a sun burning knowledge
An ocean full of feeling
It takes a certain kind of hunger
A whole lotta love... yeah..

Beginning of this song sounds just like Redemption City by Corrosion of Conformity. Both great songs, too.

that's Jerry in backing vocals I have this album layne is not on this track but I think when you grow up together making music you are bound to emulate each other styles. Jerry even talks about that how errie it is that he does sometimes sound like maybe in the lower range.

so that's still him singing the lower registers? Man, could have sworn it was Mark Lanagan

upsetting that Layne Staley barely even did background vocals on this song..
    great song though

Spider Gorgon Layne didn’t have anything to do with this album, actually. I don’t know who did the background vocals, but it wasn’t him.

    S.... G....

Not layne. Thats jerry you hear. Layne didnt contribute to d trip at all.

Uploaded in 2010 and no comments 6 years later? Wow!? As far as Cantrell goes this is pretty much a "filler" song but it's still better than %90 of rock today. Plus is like a master class in song writing.
