Canned Heat - London Blues Lyrics

When I came here last year
You promised much to me
When I came here last year
You promised much to me
You lead me on and teased me
You picked me up and let me down

When I asked you here for dinner
And you brought all your friends
When I asked you here for dinner
And you brought all your friends
I said here I am feeding half of London
And all I should be feeding here is you

Well I took you to the music show
And we wound up in your home
Well I took you to the music show
And we wound up in your home
But you ran away and hid from me
Left me walking the streets (of London) all alone

Now you call me on the telephone
There's a concert you wanna see
Now you call me on the telephone
There's a concert you wanna see
Cause the Heat's in your town
And your living right down the street
On your way to the concert
You want to stop by the hotel a while
If you don't stop by the hotel, you can go straight to hell

Love Alan's singing voice, but damn! He had a kick arsed speaking voice! 4:30 Low and strong...like Jim Morrison's.

  2. T.... ....

Future Blues is a near perfect album. Blind Owl is at his peak. The Bear is strong! Harvey Mandell (filling in for Henry Vestine) is smoking. Not to slight The Mole and Fito of course - solid as granite. And there's so much variety on this album. It's all blues, for sure, but every song has a unique character.

I'm assuming this song was based on 'real events'.  If so, that chick/woman is just a low slut of a cunt who probably sports an outstanding example of truly bad breath.  Who was this cunt? She needs public shaming.   After all, women today are making public man-shaming  an art form.  So, hands up!  Who was the cunt who treated this poor, kind-hearted schmuck so appallingly?  C'mon, YOU know who you are.  Filthy slut.

Don't forget Harvey Mandel, he had just joined the group just before Woodstock. He's the one playing the blazing lead guitar work. He just kills it, what a monster !

    R.... D....

Yea Randy, Harvey was a great player with a really unique style. He was the last great guitarist born of John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers.

    R.... D....

i think he still plays. He is truly one of the greats.

  24. P.... B....

Love Harvey's solo and Alan's vocal.

i could write a book... about this recording... of this song... because this recording of this song is just an incredibly awesome piece of work... all the musicians and others who worked on this, i hold in the highest regard... especially the Blind Owl... and THE SNAKE! THE SNAKE is otherworldly awesome on this one... Snake, IMHO, is one of the very top electric guitarists of all time, and this record is one of his best... and the balls The Blind Owl has, telling this story... about a woman who hurt him... telling her what he says in the very end of the song... Fito's book (a must read) tells the backstory here, it's fascinating... Fito is awesome on this tune, the sound of the snare, the way he sets up the guitar solo...Dr John is perfect... of course the Mole brings his super tasteful "blues plus riff" here... And the way the recording is mixed and mastered really works well... / HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEAR, SUPER LOVE FOR CANNED HEAT.

    T.... S....

T Sellers - sadly, as you know, Blind Owl 🦉 had trouble hooking up with or knowing how to be in any kind of relationship with a woman. The others in the band would advise him to wash his hair and bathe regularly... plus he he was clueless to the point where he even had difficulty with prostitutes. It must have been excruciating for him... Not sure what were the sources of his insecurities in this area of his life. It’s sad also because being able to sing and play guitar usually attract women and then you add success to it... Bill Wyman is not necessarily better looking than Blind Owl was but he was the most successful of The Rolling Stones with the ladies... even more so than Mick Jagger.
