Canned Heat - Dust My Broom Lyrics

I'm gon' get up in the mornin',
I believe I'll dust my broom
I'm gon' get up in the mornin',
I believe I'll dust my broom
Girlfriend, the black man you been lovin', girlfriend, can't get my room

I'm gon' write a letter, telephone every town I know
I'm gon' write a letter, telephone every town I know
If I can't find her in West Helena, she must be in East Monroe I know

I don't want no woman, wants every downtown man she meet
I don't want no woman, wants every downtown man she meet
She's a no good doney, they shouldn't 'low her on the street

I believe, I believe I'll go back home
I believe, I believe I'll go back home
You can mistreat me here, babe, but you can't when I go home

And I'm gettin' up in the mornin', I believe I'll dust my broom
I'm gettin' up in the mornin', I believe I'll dust my broom
Girlfriend, the black man you been lovin', girlfriend, can't get my room

I'm 'on' call up Chiney, see is my good gal over there
I'm 'on' call up Chiney, see is my good gal over there
If I can't find her on Philippine's Island, she must be in Ethiopia somewhere

Has anyone heard this original of Dust My Broom? Great song that Canned Heat took and embelished it to make it even better. They recognized good music when they heard it.

  15. B.... A....

    Canned heat rocks!!!

  16. B.... ....

Fantastic version of the song. Also a great version is done by Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac - the real Fleetwood Mac).

True dat fo sho!!! Canned Heat should be in the RRHOF!!! Alan Blind Owl Wilson (great slide guitar and harmonica too) was instrumental in rediscovering Son House in 1964 and helped future generations of fans the opportunity to learn about the delta blues. Jack White and Johnny Winter both cover Son House. Other snubs include ELO who sold 50 million albums worldwide, Soundgarden 25 mil, Depeche Mode 100 million records and T Rex who have been snubbed for 26 years!!! Come on man?

  22. C.... G....

I could listen to this over & over. It's that fucking good.

  23. s.... m....

the bear was a sloppy drunk drug addict...and blind owl was the life of canned heat...bear was jeaulous as hell at his talent..the way allen died ws totally suspicius

  44. m.... ....

Nobody, never, nowhere, no one in no country nor epoca did soooo much for Harley Davidson. Even counting on B B Ping, Peter Honda or Arlen Pinkness. Them Canned Heat depicted what a Harley is in the method-manners-and colors only biggest artists use.

  45. s.... ....

Bob "the bear" Hite, what a great voice for singing the blues!! Awesome!!

  46. S.... H....

The current hall of fame is a bunch of political bullshit. The stories go on and on. They can kiss my Rock loving ass. Someone needs to start a new Rock hall of fame. Seriously, I'm sure there's some rich hard rockers out there that could make it happen. The current hall of fame is nonsense. Just look for some of the inductees and look at some of those unconsidered and you tell me....

  47. H.... W....

Good stuff from one of the best yet underrated bands of the sixties, Canned Heat.
Alan Wilson was one of my favourites , and it's a shame he passed so young.

  48. W.... m....

    ROCK'N'ROLL is life ! Amém!

  49. W.... W....

    Love This!

  50. H.... C....

  63. P.... R....

Ray Johnson (brother of Plas Johnson) – piano!!!

  64. D.... P....
