Candi Staton - Suspicious Minds Lyrics
We're caught in a trap
I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Can't you see
What you're doing to me
We can't go on together
With suspicious minds
And we can't build our dreams
On suspicious minds
So, if an old friend I know
Drops by to say hello
Would I still see suspicion in your eyes?
Here we go again
Can't you see these tears are real
I'm crying
We can't go on together
With suspicious minds
And be can't build our dreams
On suspicious minds
Oh, let our love survive
Or dry the tears from your eyes
Don't let a good thing die
Honey, I've never lied to you
I'm just caught in a trap
I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Can't you see
What you're doing to me
When you don't believe a word I'm saying?
We can't go on together
With suspicious minds
And we can't live our lives
With suspicious minds
We're caught in a trap
I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Can't you see
What you're doing to me
When you don't believe a word I'm saying?

Candi Staton Suspicious Minds Comments
The Dee Dee Warwick version of "Suspicious Minds" is worth a listen. Very powerful.
I found this on a sugar hill gang album, I don't know why it was on there but I'm glad it was
I like...
Got to say that I prefer this version, great singer.
Candi has such a fabulous voice,Suspicious Minds is a masterpiece.
If it just didn't have those annoying disco drums...
Candis voice and frasing is a shining diamond in this but - to my taste - the instrumental arrengement is lame. In the ghetto instead is completely great.
Interpretação magistral!
Tina Turner also did this song.
Young hearts run free ..background..
Love this 💖
Dee Dee warwick es la versión original.
I love Dee Dee Warwick & Candy version of this song.
She sounds good singing this song in all respect however there is no one better than the one and only Elvis !!
Love this version as well as the Elvis version x
Great singer
Great singer sounds good but Elvis will always be the best and the one and only !!
Na minha humilde opinião.....essa è cândi staton foi a única apor alma nesta interpretação do inimitalvel & único soldoso.....elvis Presley.
uma cantora fantástica.
DIS OLD BUT IT STILL GOLD.
Ace ......
OH MY GOD ... WHAT VOICE .
Luvs candi station
A unique cover here
i love them both growing up in cat island in the bahamas..i was very young but fell inlove with this song..still a great and true song for today
when Dionne passed, I was so messed up.
Elvis Presley rocked this
I can feel the hurt in her voice. Classic!!!!
I love her voice, like broken.

Amazing music 🎶
Candi is the best, well her and Gladys Knight,so much talent.
Candi's the best. And Glaydys Knights...what a duette?
I also love the Fine Young Cannibals version btw
Brilliant version of this all time classic....
Suspicious Minds na voz de Candi Staton ficou um show!!!
elvis sent candi a telegram congtatulating on her version
Elvis died 5 years before Candi recorded this...
The original was made by Elvis!
Elvis sang songs black artists created and sang. He began as an alternative.
But this was sung by Elvis first, this is a cover
She is awesome! I love her doing the video and great version of nights on broadway. So beautiful but first beauty from the inside.
Great Talent IMO
OMG What a great version. So much heart and soul! I just love her voice <3
better than elvis version
I agree it more upbeat not depressing.
love this song
candy is the most inspiring singer for me all time beautiful songs
wow just wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just like others say. brilliant version.
Candid station and fine young cannibals did the best versions.
oh my she is fantastic...putting such a soul twist on these songs....
Patrick's Point stated it the best.
candy voice made the song sound the way it's supposed to be sung.
Andrew Carl Elliott Let's not get carried away with statements like..... "the way it's supposed to be sung".
While opinions are open for interpretation, perspective is important considering many Soul artists from her era (same era as Elvis) actually saw Elvis's version as a Soul song. In fact many of the other songs (including Suspicious Minds) off his 1969 album were highly regarded as Soul fused.
Isaac Hayes, Al Greene, James Brown, Candi Staton herself, and even Jimi Hendrix..loved the s**t out of Suspicious Minds.
I think it really being honest it would be hard to say which one is better because they both used similar arrangement, yet put their own unique vocal on it. But since they both were great singers and ladan that song with a lot of Soulful emotion I think it's a bit ridiculous to say she sang it the way it was supposed to be sung.... as if Elvis did not.
Please.
The first time I heard this I immediately fell in love with this version..... Candi is timeless..
brilliant version
I love this version of the song x
Elvis' version is my all time favourite, but Candi's voice has a certain quality of melancholy and sadness that I like and that suits this song very well.
In 1970, Elvis Presley took his version to No.2 in the UK, Candi Staton's version only reached No.32 in the UK in 1982. Although I actually prefer Elvis' version, I think that Candi deserved to get higher than she did with her excellent cover version.
Didn't this get to number 31 not 32
Chris Boyle didn't this Choon go to number 31 not 32
Covers are rarely as successful as the original version
@Philip Smith Correct, just looked in the old charts and it did indeed peak at 31,on the chart first aired 26th* May 1982 (for week ending 29th May 1982). In total it spent 5 weeks in the UK Top 40.
*Note: the new chart used to get its first airing on Radio 1 on a Tuesday back then (until September 1987),but in any week when the Monday was a Bank Holiday the new chart was pushed back a day to the Wednesday. The "week ending" in the official chart listings in such as the Guinness Book of Hit Singles referred to the following Saturday.
Concordo com vc , elvis `e incrível ! Mas essa mulher é power
