Campbell, Glen - Mary In The Morning Lyrics

Nothing's quite as pretty as Mary in the morning
When through a sleepy haze I see her lyin' there
Soft as the rain that falls on summer flowers
Warm as the sunlight shinin' on her golden hair, mhm.

When I wake and see her there so close beside me
I want to take her in my arms
The ache is there so deep inside me
And nothing's quite as pretty as Mary in the morning.

Chasin' a rainbow in the dream so far away
And when she turns to touch it I kiss her face so softly
My Mary wakes to love another day, mhm.

My Mary's there in sunny days or stormy weather
She doesn't care 'cause right or wrong
The love we share we share together
And nothing's quite as pretty as Mary in the evening.

Kissed by the shades of night and starlight on her hair
And as we walk I hold her close beside me
Oh, how tomorrows for lifetime we'll share, mhm.

Nothing's quite as pretty as Mary in the morning
Nothing's quite as pretty as Mary in the evening...

I have a double CD set of his songs.I grew up in the 1960s, hearing his early hits. I watched his variety TV show called The Glenn Campbell Goodtime Hour . I think you can watch some eps on You Tube.He had his own unique look, and his songs were awesome.I love how he sang True Grit, and he was good in that movie...I thought he and John Wayne had a good chemistry, and they should've been on other movies together.Glenn should've acted more, he would've especially been good in westerns, and maybe some adventure movies.

If only the songs today could be half this good.

Received airplay here in Philly on WIP. Didn't even know about Al Martino's version until perhaps 40 years later--and Al Martino was from Philly.

  27. t.... d....

With all due respect to the great Al Martino...Glen Campbell's rendition of this song is indeed better...and therefor superior...Far better ??...probably not....

    t.... d....

terence donovan I have to agree

    t.... d....

it is true. Great version. The problem is that Elvis Presley sang it too and when Elvis decided to sing his own version...game over for everybody

  28. P.... P....

    Brilliant

  29. d.... ....

Have to agree with you, John Leddy. Al's is the definitive version imho.

  30. J.... L....

get real, spurs! yes, glen does his usual, reliably high quality interpretation. But I have to ask you ... "by miles" (?) You've heard Al Martino's original hit version and you think Glen's is better by 'miles'?

  31. J.... S....

I have this album on Reel To Reel tape and purchased it at the MACV annex P.X. in Vietnam in 1970 the whole album was great, I love the guitar. The Truck Stop I was working in in Oho had it as a demonstration eight track tape player they were selling to truckers and I played the album over and over back in 68

    J.... S....

Good story. I grew up with this album in the 60s, was my mom's favorite song.

    J.... S....

Thank you for that story! Worthy of a Glen Campbell song itself!

    J.... S....

Thank you for your service sir.

  32. M.... L....

i am in a sentimental mood...have to listen to this one.

    M.... L....

Perhaps written for you Mary ??...:)

  33. s.... ....

Definitely the best version by miles !

I have a promotional 45 rpm copy that was included in of all things a box of laundry detergent. It was from back in the `60`s.... you remember, when they would even give away bath towels in boxes of Duz or Ivory Snow. Well, they gave away the disc in the box and I `ve had it since then.

  36. D.... W....

Great sound quality, singer, & song. Thanks.

  37. J.... P....

My Motor Sergeant in Vietnam had this album and would play it nonstop. I came to love it, too. And that's a 12-string Mosrite! Wow!

    J.... P....

I have this album on reel to reel tape. I bought it at the Ton sanhutt P.X. back in 1969 I played it in my hooch every chance until I went back to the states in August 1970. I have it on my desk in front of my desk top right now but my reel to reel recorder no longer functions. Great album and great songs. Good thing we have YouTube!

    J.... P....

    Thank you for your service.

    J.... P....

John Schlobohm. My husband also had this on reel to reel when I met him (in 1969). Mary in the Morning is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. While listening to it just now, I started crying over the happy memories and the loss of Glen. We also still have the tape, but no working tape deck. I keep hoping to find some place to have ours fixed. Said tape deck is also from 1969–it’s a Sony

  38. R.... W....

    Wonderful!
