Calhoun, Adam - Leonard Calhoun Lyrics

Hard workin', hard hands
Sweatin' like the devil with my farmers tan
My grandfather said "Chop that wood
Don't cuss at your mama, boy you got to be good"
Life goes by fast take it slow
One day you're young and the next day you're old
He used to tell me all this at our fishin' hole
I used to carry all his tackle and his fishin' pole

I can tell you stories my granddaddy told me
When I was just a boy I'd sit on his knee
He said "Son let me tell you about
The south and how it goes around here"

I can tell you stories my granddaddy told me
When I was just a boy I'd sit on his knee
He said "Son let me tell you about
The south and how it goes around here"

My daddy wasn't there but the old man was
He taught me how to fish, he taught me to hunt
And if I got bored he said widdle some wood
Or go take that ol' dog go get lost in the woods
I stay up all night and just sit on the porch
He used to tell me stories about when he was a boy
He grew up down the hollar at the end of Lick Fork
In a little old cabin and they were so poor
He started workin' at the age of 10
He left school and never went back again
I'll tell ya, old boy could swing a hammer and an axe
And when times get tough, you'd get the shirt off his back

I can tell you stories my granddaddy told me
When I was just a boy I'd sit on his knee
He said "Son let me tell you about
The south and how it goes around here"

I can tell you stories my granddaddy told me
When I was just a boy I'd sit on his knee
He said "Son let me tell you about
The south and how it goes around here"

I'm older, and he's gone now
But I never forgot what we talked about
My grandfather told me stand up proud
Don't you ever start a fight, but don't ever back down
No, no, and I miss him so
It tears up my heart, it rips my soul
Now looking down the ridge where we used to go
I can still hear his voice and I know he knows

I can tell you stories my granddaddy told me
When I was just a boy I'd sit on his knee
He said "Son let me tell you about
The south and how it goes around here"

I can tell you stories my granddaddy told me
When I was just a boy I'd sit on his knee
He said "Son let me tell you about
The south and how it goes around here"

Lost my grandfather some time Ago. This song hits me every time. Takes me back to the long talks on the porch. Teaching me everything he knew about the furniture business and business in general. My grandfather was the one who showed me I didn't have to go hustle in the streets and haggling prices in deals. Great song.

Oh Lord man. What a song?!?! Lost my grandfather a few years ago. He was the best. Gentleman in front of the women and always crackin me and all my guy cousins up. Hell man 1 time grandpa told us that when he was our age they didnt have condoms so he would fold his d*ck in half and leave the open end sticking out!!! I hope I remember that till the end. Massive influence on me. He worked hard every day of his life and was glad to do it too! Thank goodness he passed that on to me. This song got to me. Thank you!! Keep preaching. The world needs way more voices like you out spreading the word.

  58. B.... ....

*This is more country than Luke Bryan's whole career.*

  59. C.... C....

I dont believe the likes on your videos are legit. Your message is representive of real red blooded American Patriots. I sent some to my kids hoping they see the message not just hear the words. Great songs, all of them. F with America, we're your huckleberry.

  60. S.... M....

I just gotta say that I don't typically like songs that sound country. But I really like this song. It reminds me of when I was a kid. The Good Old Days!

  61. M.... L....

Woah there Adam might get treated as a easiest lol. I am a fellow white Privileged male. Funny nothing was handed to me I got what I got for getting up at 4 am and going to work for sometimes 16 hours a day. I learned skills because I was eager to learn and get my hands dirty. I say you make you’re life in what you are willing to put in it. If you want to stand there and complain and watch you’re life go by pointing the finger at everyone else for you’re failures and successes then that is what you will get. I was told not to long ago from a Black individual that the reason I was successful today was because my white skin, that opened all the doors for me and I should be ashamed about being proud of my things and should give back to people that didn’t have doors opened too???? I then told him since I was 13 years of age I have been working. Starting delivering the news paper. The worked in a restaurant as a dish washer moved up to being waiter then worked in a heavy equipment garage got my certification then got into fixing elevators got my ticket for that trade. On the side I got my HVAC ticket. All of which I payed and worked for. No scholarships no government grant just blood and sweat. I asked him if he would be willing to get up at 4 am and come into the city to work with me. He answered hell no! Are you F N crazy! I then told him I rest my case. I told him if you want something then don’t sit on the side lines and wait for it to fall into you’re lap because it won’t. So if I am a racist for working my ass off to provide for my family then they are living their lives but wasting their existence on the planet.

This is beautiful. I lost my Papaw last year, and it almost broke me. I spent the last several years of his and my Mamaw's lives, living with them and caring for them full time. I may not be where I should be at my age, but I'd sacrifice it all, all over again, because those years were precious, and I can never get that time with them back. Ain't nobody in the world like your Mee-maw and Pee-paw!

  99. J.... D....

Hell ya. To all the Grandpa’s 🍻 and Grandma’s!
