Cake - What's Now Is Now Lyrics
You should've told me when it all began
You should've told me long ago
Someday I know you're gonna find
Just one mistake is not enough to change my mind
And I'll forget what happened then
I know it all
And we can still begin again
And if the doubting faces made you go
It's only mine that matters now
Those looks will soon begin to fade
If you come back and show them all you're not afraid
What's now is now
I know it all
And we can still begin again
Now that you know how much I understand
You have no reason to be gone
And if you feel at all like me
Just let me know, I'll make it like it used to be
What's now is now
And I'll forget what happened then
I know it all
And we can still begin again
What's now is now
And I'll forget what happened then
I know it all (I know it all)
And we can still begin again
What's now is now (now is now)

Cake What's Now Is Now Comments
Nice cover of the Sinatra song. Expresses the emotion of the lyrics well. Great singing.
Can't believe I'm just learning of this band that's been around since 1991. Hope they perform in the Florida area.
I feel 50% bad, because after some life events out of my control (incl. loss of music collection) I fell behind on Cake releases. Then avoided catching up after following them on Facebook (know other fans who hate their posts lol) & I just stuck to occasionally listening online to tracks I'd owned/lost...
NOW I noticed this (I'd came on to play Sinatra's) & was curious if it was the same...and it's very good! Not quite "emotion" filled as Sinatra's, but that's obviously because I got Sinatra's version in 1996 while over seas in the Navy, & had a fiancé who was causing drama :'(
Anyway, again, very good version here, & I'll be checking out all that I've missed of Cake!
Music wise, they're simply awesome!
Wtf? They released a new album? When? 2011? Where the hell was i?
in a fuge state
Just now learned of this cover from Sinatra's beautiful 'Watertown' album which I bought the week it was released (1970), mainly because Bob Gaudio of the Four Seasons was the composer and Jake Holmes was the lyricist (I'd never bought a Sinatra album before that but I was definitely a fan of his). That album has remained in my personal Top 5 ever since. Cake's version is faithful to the original and really, really good! Thanks a lot for posting it.
I bought every Sinatra album . I am fan of his too . And Watertown is a album that Sinatra's did as a concept album . Underrated !
le son est top
Now, if I could only think of a witty comment for "What's Now is Now".
This and Wasted are the best songs on the album!
The Sinatra album this song appeared on, "Watertown," is amazing. It's the opposite of the retro "swinger in a tuxedo" Sinatra. 1970 album, and a total flop. It's his ultimate concept album, the closest he ever came to dealing with the rock and pop stuff that spelled the end of the Gershwin and Cole Porter era he was the king of. The album didn't make it into the Billboard top 100. Sinatra retired the next year - for a few years, anyway.
Yeah - it's one of favourites; the Sinatra album even Sinatra fans can't stand. If Springsteen were to cover the album, it would be hailed as a masterpiece of introspective defeat.
Thank you
What a shock to find a cover of this obscure (to non fanatics) Sinatra song! They should do more sinatra covers. Maybe an album as another poster suggested. Watertown IS quite good, by the way. Of all his albums it presents the most contemporary late 60's/early 70's rock sound. It is totally different and unique in the Sinatra catalogue. All if the songs are moody and depressing but artistically successful.

Cake should just do an entire CD of Sinatra classics, I'm sure if Sinatra heard this or Strangers in the Night he would approve
good cover of my favorite sinatra song!
240p ???
This song and "Easy to Crash" are my favorite on this album.
Frank Sinatra that ol' ma fucka!
I just love his voice
'Watertown' is a severely underrated concept album Cake's version is growing on me.
this is a cover of a frank sinatra song!
