Cake - Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town Lyrics
You've painted up your lips
And rolled and curled your tinted hair
Ruby are you contemplating
Going out somewhere
The shadow on the wall
Oh Ruby
Don't take your love to town
It wasn't me
That started that old crazy Asian war
But I was proud to go
And do my patriotic chore
And yes, it's true that
I'm not the man I used to be
Oh, Ruby I still need some company
Its hard to love a man
Whose legs are bent and paralysed
And the wants and the needs of a woman your age
Ruby I realize,
But it won't be long I've heard them say until I not around
Oh Ruby
Don't take your love to town
She's leaving now cause
I just heard the slamming of the door
The way I know I've heard it slam
100 times before
And if I could move I'd get my gun
And put her in the ground
Oh Ruby
Don't take your love to town
Oh Ruby for God's sake turn around

Cake Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town Comments
Your instrumentation is good, but try singing it instead of talking it, like Faron Young did.
Another beautiful song of vulnerability. I think this song really is awesome because it is 100% real. What would you do is all this song says. Ho would you handle this situation? What should Ruby’s man do?
I seen them play this in San Diego and the crowd went nuts and it seemed like everyone was instantly caught up in the moment. Priceless
Great rendition!
Roger Miller's is best this is so so
I like their rendition but I prefer the Killers version
I don't like Country Music but this is my favorite Country Tune.
Wow. Love it.
Yes. Fun rusty fills. A+ gents.

Good cover but not amazing, still prefer the original but would listen to this
The original from Mel Tillis?
Some mighty fine guitar pickin'!
dang,...capable,...in a long jacket so,...
in the opinion of this old dude this version was amazing -- until the last 25 seconds of pure unnecessary crap
Lmfao. They made that part just for people like you. I think it's hilarious.
Its my favorite part!!!
Agreed.
Maybe I'm biased because the Killers are my favorite band and I heard that version before this one, but I prefer Brandon singing it. I do like Cake, though.
You should listen to Roger Miller's version best by far
Showcases the anger the singer would've felt more strongly than the KR version. I love CAKE ... but still prefer the yearning/nostalgia that Kenny Rogers channelled into his version of the song. Happy that the song is being introduced to a different generation though, so way to go, CAKE! (",)
Wow, if you're going to cover a song, do it different or better or SOMETHING! This is just a pale imitation of the original by Kenny Rogers. Sad, really....
Malcolm Fisher Johnny Darrell recorded the original
Thelunaticfringe--Waylon Jennings recorded it a year or so before Johnny Darrell, and Mel Tillis wrote it a year or so before that, and later released his own recording of it.
This is good but I prefer the Killers version. This is too country.
I`ll have to look up that one
Well it's a cover of a country song...
Well ok but the original wasn't this country. Least I don't think so.
well the original was written by Mel Tillis who was pure country. Kenny Rogers sang this basically as his transition from pop to country
This was played only on country radio back when Kenny Rogers released it.
Can you believe this is the same band that did warpigs.Incredible!!!!
What are you talking about?
They didn't originally make war pigs
a lot better than the killers version
omg i just found this after listening the killers version (defintely check it out) forever and holy hell this is just as fabulous! I can't believe this my two favorite bands and they both rock this song
Cake really done a good job. Most massacre a song when they try to cover and old song. This is not the case! Rock on Cake! Kenny should be proud.
+Toby Williams cake isnt a cover band, but when the cover, THEY COVER
It's not a Kenny song. It was written by Mel Tillis and recorded by him and others before Kenny Rogers and the New Edition covered it. Theirs is certainly the most famous version.
I don't really hear this band that much but since I've been playing the song I can't f****** get it off repeat f******
One of my favorite songs
I LOVE that song lol
dont take your love to town
