Cake - Pretty Pink Ribbon Lyrics

Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd end up just like me
Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd float down to the sea

Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd say just what you pleased
Without the sticky little kitten
You're ticket could never be free

Without your tight little denim
Your virtues would all go unknown
Without the room that you live in
Your cancers would eat through the bone

Your muscles would bulge underground
Your demons would all be around
Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd end up just like me

Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd end up just like me
Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd burn all these dying leaves

Without the pretty pink ribbon
You would lift this steaming herd
You would kill all the sick ones
You would bury them deep in the earth

Without the tight little denim
Your virtues would all go unknown
Without the room that you live in
Your cancers would eat through the bone

Your muscles would bulge underground
Your demons would all be around
Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd end up just like me

Cake Pretty Pink Ribbon Comments
  1. N.... S....

I took my pretty pink ribbon to Mexico with out a safety belt but with a stick shift wearing a short skirt and long jacket.

  2. J.... R....

I too thought this song was simply about a girl in a ribbon with certain privileges......
    Until,.......
Breast cancer was found in my mom.
Pink ribbons are for breast cancer awareness.
With that revelation and the reality of this hitting home, the song means so much more, at least to me.
Loved this song before, but had no idea until you go back and study the lyrics.
    Love love love Cake!!!!

  3. D.... ....

right on the end of the 90s and starts of the new millenium

oh, and how i notice that focus in and out. btw, the skaggs-alberettsperms is getting redone here in tejas, on the boulevard of a camp called bowie

  6. K.... W....

    Love it

  7. B.... B....

this could be a MGTOW anthem

  8. i.... ....

this song has a really sad undertone

  9. S.... I....

i personally imagine this about certain privileges women get, yes, but sung from the perspective of another woman. the singer is a less attractive or poor woman, who is directing this at rich, attractive women who get whatever they want just because they're rich and pretty. ex. "without the pretty pink ribbon / you'd end up just like me"

    S.... I....

Be kinda hard for a woman to identify with the lyrics if they were meant to describe all women, though I'm not sure how the concealed bulging muscles described in :50 would fit in to that interpretation.

    S.... I....

I feel its the singer saying femininity affords you certain privileges. Dont know if thats how they actually feel, but at least its a pov

I want a pretty pink ribbon, now.

  12. P.... S....

    "without the pretty pink ribbon"
    "commisioning a symphony in c"
"this long line of cars is because of me"
they all ryme and the ends all can ryme with masculinity and femininity. . .

  14. A.... T....

Cake lyrics are just vague enough to be both about everything and nothing

  15. I.... s....

    "View" # 104,000 Woo-hoo!!!

  16. G.... J....

It is clearly about a girl that sexistly uses her attributes to earn stuff, taking advantage of the dick-minded guys

  17. K.... W....

I had a deep/morbid interpretation just today (and tell me if I'm wrong): Is Cake calling all women with cancer stupid if they solely believe the 'pretty pink ribbon' is going to SaVe TheIR LiVeS ??? Idk - the song's meaning prolly relates more to things/privileges women get just because they're female. But it could be (?).

    K.... W....

He gives a lot of other describing traits that don't necessarily make sense to match up with cancer patients, so probably not related

    K.... W....

Kevin Winn I like to think that the song isn't even particularly about women but about how anyone disguises their dark side. Although maybe certain songs on the record focus on how men tend to do this, and others on women, one of the general themes seems to be the way we hide behind things, and that can be true of anyone regardless of gender.

    K.... W....

where the hell did you get cancer!?

    K.... W....

Jesse Winn I think its more the way the singers character (if it is a character, could just be him) sees himself in relation to women, but the dark side thing fits too

    K.... W....

@Bruce Bruce Pink ribbon pins = breast cancer awareness/support

  18. j.... ....

    #StickyLittleKitten Mmmm

  19. A.... ....

The tune of this song and the bass always reminds me of the Bloodhound Gang. That and Cake were two bands that were big parts of growing up for me.

  20. m.... a....

I interpreted this song as, pretty ladies get a lot of shit handed to them. I'm not even that pretty and I get passes and free shit all the time, just because I have a vagina. I don't even carry stuff anymore, I haven't since elementary. Beta people bow before tits, it's great.
Wow re reading this I seem like a huge bitch... but it's true.

    m.... a....

+Bear Corpsegrinder It's okay. Most women are like that.

    m.... a....

    Probably mostly in your dreams.

  21. S.... M....

it's about the "hoo hah"   ....haha

    S.... M....

    Sticky little kitten

    S.... M....

  22. Y.... A....

  23. A.... M....

  25. D.... R....

It's the prefect end song to Madoka Magika.

    D.... R....

    Thank you Based Madoka.

    D.... R....

+DR. ley I never expected to see someone mention my favorite anime on a Cake song, yet here I am.

    D.... R....

    @Amimoo It fits remarkably well.

    D.... R....

Is this a fellow weeb I see?

  26. s.... ....

    'without the sticky little kitten'

    s.... ....

    Stinky little kitten.

    s.... ....

    Love Sticky Kittens

    s.... ....

Yeah it"s a good line. Makes me purr.

  27. R.... J....

    So It's Not False Then.

  28. M.... ....

False... it's about whatever you think it's about. That's the beauty of musik.

  29. A.... ....

It's about celebrity endorsement, and how they have to do things like wear denim, and wear pink ribbons and jump through hoops if they want popularity and benefits. Instead of being who they are and doing what they want, they're forced to become characters who do whatever the media decides is right.

  30. t.... ....

About a "slutty girl" who thinks that she's better than her guy. Without the sticky little kitten, your ticket would not be free, without the tight denim, your "virtues" would be unknown. In other words, if you weren't so hot, you would know what it's like to suffer.

  31. L.... B....

please explain this songs meaning to me.

  32. L.... B....

    great song!

  33. b.... ....

Without the sticky little kitten, you're ticket could never be freeee!

  35. J.... j....
