Byrds, The - Truck Stop Girl Lyrics

His tail lights flickering as he pulled up to the truck stop
The same old crowd was hanging out again tonight
He said fill up my tank while I go check my load
It feels like it's shifting all around

He was the kind of man, do all he could
Above all he had integrity
But he was so young and on a ten city run
In love with a truck stop girl

As he went inside he was memorily greeted
By the girl with whom he was in love
She held out a glass and said have another
This is the last time we can meet

With her hair piled up high and a look in her eye
That would turn any good man's blood to wine
All his eyes could see, all his eyes could see
Was the stares from all these around him

He ran out to the lot and climbed into his rig
And drove off without tightening down
It was a terrible thing to see what remained
Of the rig that poor Danny was in

He was young and on a ten city run
In love with a truck stop girl

Byrds, The Truck Stop Girl Comments
  1. C.... N....

Follow this with "Dumb" by Nirvana. It's so uncanny

  2. W.... B....

I've been debating on which version of this song is better. I think Clarence White owns this as my personal favorite.

    W.... B....

    Yeah. Same.

  3. Q.... ....

Blast it from the rooftops. This is SO SO FUCKING great on SO many levels. Quintessential vocals and searing guitar work. God Bless the Creator who gave us Clarence White AND Lowell George. /|\

  4. n.... r....

Clarence White is one of the best singers ever. finally someone who makes HIS voice sing!!! but my favorite part is his solo at the end - he could play for me 10 hours more...I love this song.

  5. r.... f....

I don't know truckstps but how much $ did I get the teamster pension fund great song Russ Fain--gram parson isn't it?Russ Fain

  6. T.... C....

Nothing compares to this version, Clarence White for all his talents on guitar and banjo really had a unique singing voice!

  7. J.... G....

My favorite Byrds album. Clarence White, the most underrated guitarist in rock history. Check out his acoustic/bluegrass work, just unbelievable.

  8. s.... p....

It's a shame ya have to put up with all the friggin' ads to hear the music...

  9. A.... M....

It's like this gave birth to twin styles.... of Jackson Brown + Kurt Cobain.

  10. D.... M....

Best BBender (studio) craftsmanship by anyone, ever
    Bravo C.W. ....

  11. M.... B....

How could I forget how great this lp was!!! The Byrds rocked!!

  12. N.... R....

Clarence's voice was so beautiful. How awful he and Lowell George left us far too soon. Sadly for Lowell though, this version pisses all over the original from a great height. -And I don't say that easily..

  13. A.... G....

Good job Clarence. Better suited than McGuinn for this one.

  15. t.... d....

nice cover.  just for grins, get the very first little feat album, and play their original "truck stop girl" followed quickly by the version of "Willin'" that is just Lowell George and Ry Cooder, without the hippy dippy "weeeeed whiiiiiiites and whiiiiiiiine" that later became a stadium favorite.

  16. t.... d....

I still miss Lowell George and his Craftsman socket slide.

  17. l.... o....

I feel this is the best guitar solo ever

    l.... o....

    I agree

  18. t.... d....

I had no idea that the Byrds covered this song. This song belongs to Lowell George forever.

  19. t.... ....

Cover of a Little Feat song - -although their version appeared first! They also recorded "Willin' ", but that wasn't released at the time. Both covers are in my "LF.." playlist. Thanks for the upload!

    t.... ....

I like the Byrds' Willin' and Truck Stop Girl better than Little Feat originals, though LF was great.

    t.... ....

then you're a pretty slow learner, walt. wake up.

    t.... ....

    De gustibus non est disputandum

  20. R.... W....

Whatta great voice, forever silenced by a drunk driver.

  21. B.... ....

No, actually -- Clarence White, his voice, his B-Bender, his presence, have nothing in common with Kurt Cobain. I like Cobain, but dragging your ass in the dirt chasing  nailing an audible narcotic rush is an entirely different artistic genre. White paints pastoral scenes, beautifully.

    B.... ....

There is NO comparison whatsoever between Clarence and Cobain other than they are both in the Beyond. Clarence was a Comet Burning Bright for too short of a time.

    B.... ....

+Margaret Moore Kurt Cobain ALSO was a comet burning too briefly and too brightly /|\

    B.... ....

+QueerAndUnplugged Kurt was as about as overrated as lgbtUnpluggy IK

    B.... ....

@MusicMC1 WTF are you trying to say?

    B.... ....

QueerAndUnplugged Mr White is the best guitarist that ever plucked strings!!!!

  22. Q.... ....

I like BOTH Kurt Cobain AND Clarence White and I'm glad we've got their recordings forever. But Clarence...he was special. Real special. Thank you Lowell George. I've got this album on vinyl and it's the bomb. Every song a pearl.

    Q.... ....

So weird how close it is between the two.

    Q.... ....

Man, u really nailed that! Been listening to both singers for years and never made the comparison. Well done Queer!!

  23. s.... m....

Damn. No matter how many times I listen to this version - Clarence White is a God. He just kills this one. Kentucky Colonel's!

  24. j.... ....

Man you're so right about this version - a haunting masterpiece. Second on Untitled only to Chestnut Mare, which for my money ranks among the 10 greatest songs in rock history.

  25. T.... P....

For me, I smoked a dubby and enjoyed this classic for days!! Made loud to be played loud! And I did!

    T.... P....

Blast it from the rooftops. This is SO SO FUCKING great on SO many levels. Quintessential vocals and searing guitar work. God Bless the Creator who gave us Clarence White AND Lowell George. /|\

  26. T.... P....

When I heard this album over forty years ago, I was struck dumb! Chestnut mare! Truck Stop Girl! Bugler! Oh my! Brilliant! And as for Clarence White! He shine's on this album! Simply Shines!

    T.... P....

talile ali .....named my dog........ Bugler

    T.... P....

This was a great album. However, Bugler was their Farther Along album.

  27. T.... P....

    Gram Parson's I believe!

  28. T.... P....

Yes indeed! Clarence made this song penetrate the soul of it's listener! I have performed this song for over thirty years! And people have loved it all of the time! But who wouldn't!

  29. T.... P....

You are so right! Possibly one of the Best album ever made, in my opinion! Along with Bob Dylan's "Self Portrait"

  30. J.... L....

It was Terry Melcher, or maybe Gram Parsons on Piano

    J.... L....

    Terry Melcher

  31. M.... M....

You hit it dead on! Clarence was absolutely AMAZING!

  32. t.... ....

Happy birthday to Roger today[July 13th.]R.I.P.Clarence.I got the Untitled album as soon as it came out, went home, took a hit of mescaline and played it all day.Great song.

    t.... ....

I bought the album in Santa Cruz , Ca., in 1975. Ate bread from Staff of Life bakery, swiss cheese from England, and Rota Zinfandel from Templeton and grooved all day into the night on this. "Angry Planet, indeed!

  33. a.... ....

    Thanks!! Will do

  34. E.... R....

Check out the version on The Byrds Live at Royal Albert Hall 1971. It's track 3. Amazing played live and raw!

  35. M.... M....

RIP Clarence. Shear perfection! Thanks for uploading this.

  36. R.... ....

I think Clarence has a perfect voice for this piece. Honestly, not today's Top40-autotune-hit-radio voice...but a perfect Appalchian nasal voice.

  37. a.... ....

This is absolutely the best version of this song. Absolutely great. My fav version by far of this song.

  38. A.... ....

Agreed, Clarence is absolutely better than Kurt, especially as a guitar player. I like some Nirvana song, but I like pretty much every song I've heard that Clarence is on.

  39. A.... ....

I hadn't thought of it before, but Clarence White's voice does sound like Kurt Cobain.

  40. G.... ....

Love this whole album just as much as sweetheart of the rodeo

  41. B.... ....

Does anyone else on this planet think it sounds like Kurt Cobain singing? I once fooled a load of mates telling them it was a rehearsal out take for the Unplugged show Nirvana did on MTV

  42. m.... b....

Do you have kelly Willis version ?

  43. R.... ....

    this is a great song

  44. J.... H....

Love this song. Thanks for posting.
