Byrds, The - Jamaica Say You Will Lyrics
Jamaica was the lovely one, I played her well
As we lay in the tall grass where the shadows fell
Hiding from the children so they would not tell
We would stay there 'till her sister rang the evening bell
Help me find a way to fill these empty hours
Say you will come again tomorrow
The daughter of a captain on the rolling seas
She would stare across the water from the trees
Last time he was home he held her on his knees
And said the next time they would sail away just where they pleased
Jamaica, say you will
Help me find a way to fill these lifeless sails
Jamaica was a sweet young one, I loved her true
She was a comfort and a mercy through and through
Hiding from this world together, next thing I knew
We had brought her things down to the bay -- what could I do
Jamaica, say you will
Help me find a way to fill these sails
And we will sail until our waters have run dry

Best cover
Every Jackson Browne melody sounds exactly the same to me. At least Melcher's wonderfully excessive production makes it vaguely bearable.
This version has such a dreamy feel to it. Clarence on vocals and lead are always a winner combo for a Byrds tune. Love late Byrds ! Thxs for the upload!
agreed. awesome version! can't stop listening
From my very first hearing of it when I bought the album I always thought that this Jackson Browne song was arguably one of the strongest tracks on the album............in terms of it's potential for making the album one of their greatest that is..........., but as others have said it suffers from being very muffled and distant, as far as the vocals. It always seemed as though the vocals were almost a second thought and almost could have been sung in another room altogether. It has always seemed a pity to me that this was never remixed, with more prominent and clearer vocals. Terry Melcher could have done better....!
The music is faultless and at a pace befitting a Byrd's classic.
All the Byrdmaniax album needed to do was to make use of the Untitled album outtakes; Willin', Lover Of The Bayou, the alternate version of All The Things, and the White's Lightnin' instrumental. All combined, that would have made a very expanded album, fairly good
Reminds me of Lyin' Eyes by The Eagles
Clarence sounds amazingly like Browne here! There's something weird about the mix, though - -the song sounds buried and muffled...
clarence was great
ザ・バーズ、地味目不本意評価だった"バードマニックス"、どうしてどうしてグッド・ナンバー揃いだったクラレンス・ホワイトのヴォーカル"JamaicaSayYouWill"
Clarence gave Jackson Brown guitar lessons teaching him to play. What a privilege to learn from the master.
I loved Clarence's rendition of this song. RIP Clarence.
I think this is the best version, because it just has a more relaxed feel than the Jackson Browne version. It;s a short head, but I love this version to bits,as the whole album. It almost says,we;ll enjoy ourselves, now the Byrds heyday is over.Farther Along was still good, but had a more tired feel to it.Still brilliant.
though
I also like this version a lot, also Clarence sang it live very well.
This is an ok version, but I prefer Browne's version from his first album.
