Byrds, The - Have You Seen Her Face Lyrics

Have you seen her face her eyes reflect the colors in the sky
A warm familiar place to be swept into
Whenever she's close by makes me wonder why

Run by don't turn back
Can't hide from that look in her eye

Must be the way she walks a style made up to capture all she needs
No time to spend on loose talk
If your luck runs right she might see you tonight anything in sight

Run by don't turn back
Can't hide from that look in her eyes

You'll find your locked in her spell all the sights and sounds
Your senses will be found
That only time will tell how much love can be to wait so patiently
Wait and see

Run by don't turn back
Can't hide from that look in her eyes

Byrds, The Have You Seen Her Face Comments
  1. M.... D....

Adoro o som desses caras ...

  2. W.... G....

I'd rather have listened in Mono. That sixties gimmick Stereo does my head in. My memories of these great songs are from AM radio.

  3. G.... S....

Hit Parader once said that every track on "Younger Than Yesterday" was "a gem." Now that I can hear this music on You Tube, I regret never getting this album. I did buy the first three albums used in my late teens. They were some band!

  4. J.... M....

Roger plays Crosby's six string on this

  5. L.... ....

this is a giant of a 60s tune that gets virtually no play on oldies stations - underplayed..underrated..

  6. d.... w....

This is one of my favorite songs of all time younger than yesterday is an underrated gem Chris Hillman was an amazing songwriter

  7. j.... s....

that funky guitar Roger played on this song, was David's Gretch Country Gentleman guitar

  8. s.... ....

Love this album, play it for many hours to my girlfriend when it came out, Roger/Jim used to call his first four albums electric comic books..

  9. A.... K....

I guess 30 people haven't see her face.

  10. L.... D....

I think this is my favourite track - pop, rock, folk, garage, psych...and the Beatles all wrapped up inside three minutes of perfection!

  11. j.... s....

want that hat. and still my fav Byrds tune love that off beat 6 sting sound and drum beat

    Raspberry_ Plaza_ thank you ❤️

  13. T.... B....

Chris Hillman...aside from Gene Clark...was arguably the Byrds' best songwriter!

  14. H.... N....

Its too bad it was left off their greatest hits cd, unless it was a bonus track on the re released cd.

  15. t.... ....

Hate to get too music "geeky" here but where's the melody? Sounds to me like it's Crosby's part and yet it's a Hillman tune so is it the lower part that he's singing? Either way it's one of mu all time favorite tunes.

  16. S.... ....

A truely great song, lyrics, vocals, and instrumentation (guitar, bass, drums etc). Anyone know for certainty what guitar was used on the recording? There are other videos on here that suggest it was the 'Twang' of a Fender Telecaster (played by Roger McGuinn). We are familiar with Roger playing 6 and 12 string Rickenbackers, but apparently he did own a Telecaster. Clarence White was known for working with the Byrd's in the early days, and proficiently played a modified 'B Bender' Telecaster to marvelous effect.

    S.... ....

never heard the brand name but that it was a 6 string. now don't quote me but my feeble memory thinks someone posted that the guitar belonged to David

    S.... ....

    @Jim Mcintyre thanks

  17. R.... F....

Classic song by Chris Hillman and the Byrds. It never gets old!

  18. M.... O....

    Superb.

  19. J.... S....

Damn this is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written, so underrated

    J.... S....

& never played on oldies stations..ever.. huge 60s tune!!

    J.... S....

Stalin? Yo man I would have never guessed that a man like you would listen to the Byrd’s

  20. R.... M....

Chris Hillman's first I was told. Pretty good! When I first heard this back in the 60s, I thought the George Harrison influence on lead guitar was obvious....Lovely song.

  21. f.... ....

    Ear candy

  22. M.... ....

In not more than four years time they delivered six of the most wonderful albums in pop history...

    M.... ....

Muziekgenot 2nd only to maybe a similar Beatles four yr run

  23. T.... ....

reminds me of The Kinks a bit. Great ripping crunchy guitar flicks too.

    T.... ....

I can see that too. The guitar solo is, let's say a little haphazard, spontaneous and difficult to reproduce (which I really like), not unlike Dave Davies of the Kinks on 'All Of the Day And All Of The Night' and 'You Really Got Me'. This is not to say that there was anything deliberate either way, but of the time it might have been a great celebration across the miles of these exciting, new and creative sounds 👍.

  24. R.... N....

Chris Hillman, the Byrds hidden treasure.

  25. u.... ....

    Brilliant songwriting.

  26. G.... G....

The best song Gene Clark never wrote. Chris Hillman doesn't get his dues among the Byrds.

  27. G.... S....

Our local rock station never even played it. They either passed up a lot of great songs, or put them on the playlist months after they had already charted elsewhere. One good example: Time Has Come Today.

  28. s.... ....

    Smash!! HIT

  29. C.... G....

    Poopy.com

  30. S.... T....

Take ?....what happened to Roger McGuinn

  31. M.... H....

    Happy 75th, Roger McGuinn!

  32. p.... ....

the most beatlesque song ever made by the byrds.........................isnt it????

    p.... ....

I think that it is safe to say that this sounds somewhat Beatlesque. I do not think that they are ripping the Beatles off or copying them, I just simply can hear influence and some reasonable degree of overlap in style...enough so that one can be justified in noticing or remarking on some similarity. I think that it is the strong melody in addition to the periods instrumental, vocal and harmony techniques that many bands had in common. Also lyrically the title "Have You Seen Her Face?" resembles visual themed songs like "I've Just Seen A Face" , "You Wont See Me" or "I'm Looking Through You" or maybe it can subconsciously remind one of the lyric in "Eleanor Rigby" : " Wearing a Face that she keeps in a jar by the door..."

    p.... ....

Muziekgenot Lol no, love the Byrds but The Beatles and The Beach Boys for that matter had the best harmonies out of any rock band that came out of the 60s.

    p.... ....

@Muziekgenot Great harmonies, but to say "so much better than the Beatles" is one of the most idiotic and moronic comments I've ever read online.

    p.... ....

@corey wiley I understand what you're saying and I partially agree. It seems that Roger McGuinn started playing Beatle songs around 1964. So a certain influence should be there. Yet in my opinion was the style they developed very different from those of the Beatles, with the prominence of country- and folk influences and, not to be forgotten, Bob Dylan. I think (I'm living in the Netherlands, Europe) that the Byrds sound very, very American and the Beatles very very British. And I do consider their singing, their hamonies really a lot better than that of the Beatles. Thank you for posting this gem and your reaction.

    p.... ....

@auramac You're quite right, it's all a matter of taste, not of truth.

  33. M.... H....

Gorgeous harmonies. Mr. Hillman, we've had the pleasure of meeting him twice. A real gentleman, wonderful musician.

  34. s.... ....

    ROCK EN!! ROLL

  35. N.... 4....

    To Ashleigh...

  36. j.... h....

    better than groovy...timeless

  37. D.... f....

Actually, this song was recorded ending November 1966 and released as a single in May 22th 1967

  38. s.... ....

Fantastic song---never tire of it....bought the 45rpm when it came out

  39. n.... ....

One of my fav byrds tunes. Great harmonies!!!

  40. R.... S....

Nice vocal blending, Hillman, Hillman & Crosby.

    R.... S....

    Ray Stoddard You forgot Roger

    R.... S....

McGuinn is singing the harmony with Crosby but you're right, you can hear him in there.

  41. T.... W....

A gem, from an album loaded with magnificent songs from Chris Hillman.

  42. W.... J....

it is surprising that this didn't become a top ten hit single ! what happened ?!?! in a time when happy together and Incense and Peppermints became number one , this is a song and album that should have scored on a bigger level.

    W.... J....

Exactly, some manager in charge was asleep at the switch on this one.

    W.... J....

On the unauthorized Byrds documentary, The Byrds Under Review, several Rock historians, musicians and other interviewees associated with the band unanimously stated that Younger Than Yesterday got overlooked in the midst of all the Summer of Love music and bands of 1967 and as a result the album and its songs did not get the reception they deserved.

    W.... J....

    +Learn Through Music and Lyrics!!!

    Interesting. Thank you.

"Younger than Yesterday" . . . Yes . . . Another song that you had to go to more in-depth rock DJs to ask to spin.

    W.... J....

yeh for sure. sweetheart of the rodeo should have done much better than it did too. yer right, incense and pep was crap. the pop charts have never been a reliable indicator of quality (gross understatement). no rap song should even be allowed on the charts. but things are what they are

    W.... J....

I'm writing a whole book about the Byrds from 1965-1973. It's about if the Byrds were like the American Beatles. No where near done though 😂

  43. A.... P....

An amazingly well-crafted song on so many levels. Masterpiece of vocal harmonies and sparkling guitars at the bridges.

  44. L.... T....

    Chris Hillman's greatest song ever.

    L.... T....

It's a really good song but I think Natural Harmony is way better. Man, Chris is brilliant, he wrote so many good songs it's hard to choose the best one, but Natural takes the first place in my opinion. I even consider it to be the best song by The Byrds.

    L.... T....

Also So Many Times by Manassas

    L.... T....

    my fav Byrds tune

  45. j.... s....

still my fav Byrds song. thanks

  46. L.... R....

This reminded me of a girl I knew in high school. I never had the nerve to ask her out. It is a powerful memory and connection.

    L.... R....

Larry Reid Nice. You should've asked her out.

    L.... R....

I am a combat veteran in my 4th marriage. She is probably better off to have never known I admired her from afar.

    L.... R....

@Larry Reid Thank You for your service from the sister of a vet

    G R O O V Y

  48. s.... ....

    Heavenly!

  49. J.... K....

I bought this album way back in 1966, when my mind was opening up like a flower in the Spring of my Enlightenment. When I listen to it today, it still offers it's sweet perfume to my being.

    J.... K....

+John Knottenbelt The whole LP is pure brilliance.

    J.... K....

    Wonderful comment, John Knottenbelt! :)

    J.... K....

    Someone hit the LSD

    J.... K....

That's amazing when you consider it wasn't released until 1967.

  50. R.... ....

My favourite intro ever ever EVER!!!  Downhill from there and the solo's a bit of a mess but it's still a great record.

    R.... ....

+captainsoul1953 love it and that diff kind of drum pattern

    R.... ....

Agree with you that the bass is wonderful here.

Where I can't help but disagree: (and I will take a back seat to people who know better)

The guitar solo is great, perfect, different. And I don't hear bad notes in it.

It kind of reminds me of Keith Richards' solo on Time is On My side.

Lots of twists, turns, and slides wildly.

    R.... ....

Agree, but it didn't go downhill to me.

    R.... ....

I know what you mean about the apparently messy solo break. As others have said it definitely is different; I like it, adds a spontaneous/chaotic live performance feel.

    R.... ....

captainsoul1953 If only there was some evidence of that. There are anecdotes of it being the Gretsch Country Gentlemen (Crosby's) or a Telecaster (McGuinns). Sounds more like the Gretsch to my ears.

  51. g.... g....

Pleasant song , base player is Solid

    g.... g....

Chris Hillman plays bass on this.
