Byrds, The 2-4-2 Fox Trot (The Lear Jet Song) Comments
That flight never landed.
the Mamas and the papa's used to have a lear jet and when the pilot would put it into a sharp dive the passengers would become weightless and the would play "volleyball" with Mama Cass. She loved it
Uh huh.
Who actually likes this song!
The mathematical question is:
How high was McGuinn when he wrote 8 miles high?
Great song.
Unpopular opinion probably, but a perfect way to close a timeless album. This and eight miles high are both about their first flight. I wonder if "Countdown" by Rush was influenced by this?
Mason Camera Nah. Personally, I think Wild Mountain Thyme is a better album closer. Maybe 2-4-2 Fox Trot as the opener for the B side
@M Dub_Dub Yeah mountain thyme would be a good album closer for sure, but I'm surprised (but also not really) that this song is so overlooked because it's got that Byrds quirkiness to it, the same way "I See You" does (another overlooked track).
Mason Camera Exactly
I've always loved this song. Why do so many Byrds fans not like it? What's wrong with this song, I think it's great?
Mason Camera I agree. It’s got a definite Byrds feel to it
A real bird would have difficulty getting the 800 feet.
Go fly a Learjet go fly a Learjet go fly a Learjet baby
"Ride" actually .......
Som que Carlos Weyrauch, o Mutuca colocana na rádio , 2-4-2Fox-Trot, dos Byrds, que durante anos foi prefixo do programa dele na Ipanema FM.Abração!
nice cw lw beacons
Lear 23. Rode one for a short flight IAH to DFW. YE HAW!!!
I got a FREE ride from guy I'd met the day before, going from Long Beach, CA to Reno, then FAA pilot checkout (approach to stall, cut one engine on take-off etc, then back to Long Beach where I sat in the co-pilot seat for the last half and landing.
That's John Lear starting the engines and reading the checklist
ROCK ON
The seventh song we'll hear by the Gaylads is, strangely enough, a cover of the Byrds original 2-4-2 Fox Trot (The Lear Jet Song) a song that closed their psychedelic masterpiece album Fifth Dimension (1966) That was the album that included Eight Miles High, IMO one of the 20 greatest rock songs. Here is the Byrds' original with the jet sounds, then we'll hear the Gaylads cover.
Go ride a little jet baby!
Sounds like they are at LAX taxiing out of Tigers MX and headed to 25R for departure.
The opening sequence of this song is so cool. The rest is ok, but the beginning is the best. The Byrds are flying high.
no the actual song is whats cool
Actual Pilot Talk accompanies this track, which ends the "Fifth Dimension" Album, recorded in 1966.
