Buzzcocks - I Believe Lyrics

In these times of contention it's not my intention to make things plain
I'm looking through mirrors to catch the reflection that can't be mine
I'm losing control now I'll just have to slow down a thought or two
I can't feel the future and I'm not even certain that there is a past

I believe in the worker's revolution
And I believe in the final solution
I believe in
I believe in
I believe in the shape of things to come
And I believe in I'm not the only one
Yes I believe in
I believe in

When I poison my system I take thoughts and twist them into shapes
I'm reaching my nadir and I haven't an idea of what to do
I'm painting by numbers but can't find the colours that fill you in
I'm not even knowing if I'm coming or going if to end or begin

I believe in the immaculate conception
And I believe in the resurrection
And I believe in
I believe in
I believe in the elixir of youth
And I believe in the absolute truth
Yes I believe in
I believe in

There is no love in this world anymore
There is no love in this world anymore

I've fallen from favour while trying to savour experience
I'm seeing things clearly but it has quite nearly blown my mind
It's the aim of existence to offer resistance to the flow of time
Everything is and that is why it is will be the line

I believe in perpetual motion
And I believe in perfect devotion
I believe in
I believe in
I believe in the things I've never had
I believe in my Mum and my Dad
And I believe in
I believe in

There is no love in this world anymore
There is no love in this world anymore

I'm skippin' the pages of a book that takes ages for the foreword to end
Triangular cover concealing another aspect from view
My relative motion is just an illusion from stopping too fast
The essence of being these feelings I'm feeling I just want them to last

I believe in original sin
And I believe what I believe in
Yes I believe in
I believe in
I believe in the web of fate
And I believe in I'm going to be late
So I'll be leavin'
What I believe in

There is no love in this world anymore
There is no love in this world anymore
There is no love in this world anymore
There is no love in this world anymore
There is no love in this world anymore
There is no love in this world anymore
There is no love in this world anymore
There is no love in this world anymore

Shamefully am coming to the massive fucking conclusion that I never gave the buzzcocks a chance. I'm in my 40s and love just about all I've listened to coming across Homisapien two days ago. What a song writer. And for a punk band I love that you can really hear each instrument and line... especially love the bass and reverb/hall on his vocals on this...talk about existential... there is no love in this world anymoooooore!🤘😉😱😓😌😜😂😱🤠

  5. K.... B....

Hard to believe its almost a year since Pete Shelley died but the music lives on a fantastic back catalogue which acts as a tribute in itself

Such a loss of a hugely talented lyricist... this really captures some of the best 'punk' from the U.K., for me - likely not to be seen again, maybe it only could have happened in the late seventies...

In Argentina we love Buzzcocks. Here a stupid one day he decided to go see them at last. I woke up, turned on the computer and wrote "Buffett Argentina" and I got a news about nine hours ago. "Pete Shelley passed away¨ I believe that I am a tremendous sleeper. We already know, even those of us who try to behave well from the smallest acts of life are not innocent either ... To see him in interviews with Pete shows that he was a great person. When I saw that news to a lesser extent I felt bad for not having gone to see them, and most of all I felt a lot for him, his family, friends and the band.

  33. A.... S....

The man who made songs about the human emotions of relationships and feelings without just constantly singing, saying 'I love you'. RIP Pete, a true original.

  43. s.... D....

the band that made a young girl of 15 in 1983 to go...fuck this...thank you Pete

  44. e.... ....

I'd say they were my own personal Beatles, but they went far beyond that.

  45. R.... K....

This song got me into the Buzzcocks. Rest in peace Pete 🙏

  46. P.... D....

My all time favorite Buzzcocks song!!!!!

  47. C.... P....

I bought a couple Buzzcocks albums on vinyl back in the day. I listened to them over and over, but never replaced them with cd's, so I have not listened to their music lately. I was bummed when I heard of the passing of Pete Shelley. This band was woefully underappreciated in the USA. I put The Stranglers in that category, too. Great songs, performed with enthusiasm and purpose. Sigh.

  48. s.... ....

RIP   Thanks for the good Time

  49. P.... G....

En estos tiempos de discordia no es mi intencion hacer las cosas mas simples
    WE BELIEVE IN....

  50. D.... M....

They were so brilliant. RIP Pete. Saw them in 1990. This is maybe my favorite of all their songs?

  51. K.... R....

Awesome band. The punk world has lost another legend. RIP Pete Shelley

Rest in Peace Pete. You were one of the only writers to ever actually capture human emotion

  60. M.... K....

I just read that Pete Shelley passed away. What sad news.....

  61. S.... F....

    RIP Pete!! I love you

  62. S.... B....

Farewell Pete. One of the greats.

  63. B.... ....

RIP Pete Shelley. Thank you for all the great songs and gigs. This was easily Pete’s most personal song.

    B.... ....

A great tune! Great band - RIP

    B.... ....

Feels like a huge part of my youth died today.

    B.... ....

I always thought that was why Can't I touch it, that song is about a lover who kept hiding his sexuality to others and would only come to Pete for sex.

  64. 4.... c....

Me too a year now. Love this song! Brilliant.

  65. V.... S....

    RIP Pete Shelley.

  66. S.... R....

I'm just listening this when I receive the notice that pete is dead. I'm sad now

  67. S.... ....

R.I.P. Pete Shelley. This was my favourite of theirs. And this is chorus!

  68. C.... ....

RIP Pete. Your songs will always matter.

  69. J.... J....

    R.I.P. Pete

  70. T.... O....

    RIP Pete Shelley, 12/06/2018

  71. G.... B....

I have reached my nadir at last

  72. V.... E....

    party down with Buzzcocks

  73. J.... H....

I remember listing to the Buzzcocks on vynal before any radio play at friends houses and cutting our long hair off. Their first air play in LA was Orgasim Addictice hardly a Pop song.

  74. M.... ....

This is complete total shit. This guy's puberty cracking voice sucks ass. Repeating there is no love in this world anymore over and over on top of one guitar chord. Wow. So timeless, poignant, clever, brilliant and pretentious as fuck. This song is hot garbage.

  75. I.... R....

Just genius, made my morning yes yes yes

  76. s.... ....

2:33 "...I believe in the things I never had and I believe in my mom and dad..." My favorite line of the whole song and with a poignancy par excellence! As well as "... there is no love in this world anymore..." Peace.

  77. I.... P....

It's so brilliant that it makes me cry 😎 #ibelieve

    I.... P....

I'm sitting in an airport in Chicago listening to this song...tearing up over the emotion Pete layered into their songs. And then I read your comment and it made me smile. Weird, but it did!
    Buzzcocks ad infinitum...

  78. G.... U....

    o adventista

  79. P.... F....

The energy from this band was brilliant compared to the gsrbage of todays over produced kid bands

    P.... F....

They are brilliant compared to just about anyone. And their shows still have incredible energy.

  80. T.... ....

the buzZcocks always come up when punkers talk about love songs

  81. S.... B....

To quote Bowie: To be played at maximum volume

    S.... B....

    Turn it up to 11!!

    S.... B....

With a fat line of the coca

  82. L.... H....

I just love this spotty youth sound.. Reminds me of Jilted John.. Yes Pete Shelley is awesome!

  83. a.... ....

    dorfpunks ?

  84. D.... R....

This is one song i can play over and over again really good track

  85. s.... ....

    There is no The x

  86. H.... ....

Hah. For those unaware, Conjure One did an ambient cover of this song - but it still has Pete Shelley on vocals xD
The original is sort of frantic and desperate while the cover is ephemeral and wistful.
    I love them both.

    H.... ....

Just to clarify, its a new vocal track laid down by Pete Shelley, not a copy and paste. Really cool tribute. Would be surprising to find on a trance album if it weren't made by the keyboardist from FrontLine Assembly.

    H.... ....

Yeah I actually didn't know it was a cover, although it did feel a little out of place compared to the rest of the album. Vastly prefer the Conjure One version though.

  87. V.... R....

eu acredito do bem e no mau
    Eu acredito no imposto
    Eu acrediti

  88. K.... N....

I'm listening to this band for the first time ever and I'm already a fan.

    K.... N....

Welcome...... May not be a single song in their catalog not worth digging.

    K.... N....

They are amazing!!! Seen them twice live

    K.... N....

Thank God you did not go through life without experiencing them. One of my absolute favorite bands.

    K.... N....

    @Warrogue1 😊😊😊

  89. V.... S....

There is no common sense in this world any moooooooorrrrrrrrreeeeeeeee.

  90. W.... W....

Futuristic for a human element that has become a cancer. People who kill their kids, ISIS, drug cartels who execute anyone, its always happened but now with social media if you have half a brain your a million times more aware of the brutality in the world
and I'm not talking "Black lives matter".....

  91. P.... j....

    #brexitplaylist

  92. A.... H....

So cynical. But a great song anyway. There is no love left etc etc etc...

    A.... H....

Pay attention to all that he affirms. If you can affirm a portion of that in your lifetime the cynicism won't matter.

  93. T.... ....

    Very, in fact, quite nice!

  94. W.... A....

    Punk-new wave!!   5-4

    W.... A....

William Ayala this was actually the first wave of punk, if even that. It was so beyond time.

  95. s.... 6....

what a  surprise to find it here.........great
