Buzzcocks - Boredom Lyrics
Yeah - well - I say what I mean
I say what comes to my mind
I never get around to things
I live a straight - straight line
you know the scene - very humdrum
boredom - boredom
I'm living in this movie
but it doesn't move me
I'm the man that's waiting for the phone to ring
Hear it ring-a-ding-a-fucking-ding
You know me...
I'm already a has-been
my future ain't what it was
well I think I know the words that I mean
You know me...
B'dum - b'dum
I've taken this extravagant journey
so it seems to me
I just came from nowhere
and I'm going straight back there
You know me...
So I'm living in this movie
but it doesn't move me
so tell me who are you trying to arouse?
get your hands out of my trousers
You know me...

Great drumming on this.
Question.. did Pete always play rhythm guitar and Steve always lead guitar? or did they mix it up?
That's what you call "raunchy" drumming ;-).
(or IS it a drummachine on steroids?).
Pete♥
Thatcher was a great president.
She made Britain great again ;-)

👏👏👏👏👏
I love punk rock - I keep them in a box, like Marx and Angles.
The 2 note guitar solo is fantastic, why can't Eric Clapton do that?
It technically beyond him
Hate to go all prog rock on you, but I think he hits a 3rd note at the end.
Great song to rip up a half pipe to.
Ha! Memories. Heard this on John Peels radio show many years ago.
I saw these guys in wellington must have been around 2010.
Just a small pub gig.
Wasn't advertised beyond a chalkboard outside the door.
I was just there for a beer and they were rehearsing.
Took me a while to realise it was the real thing lol.
I thought it was a tribute band

RIP Pete , legend and the reason I joined a band
RIP Pete Shelley
I just heard the very sad news that Pete Shelley has died at age 63. Buzzcocks were my raison detre and an awful lot of fun when I was a pre teen, a teen an adult and beyond. Buzzcocks were the most melodic punk band ever, a long career full of great songs with smart intelligent great lyrics. When punk was all about nihilism and having no future they completely done the opposite and wrote songs about love and the importance of love without any preachy pretentiousness. Thanks for all the music and alleviating the Boredom it's in my heart to always love you more.
I had no idea he passed. This fucking bites.
@Yvonx Missing love gone bad?
R.I.P PETE 😪

RIP Pete, you made this world a better place
We shall not see his like again.
Punk Pioneer
@Too many munsters Not sure what you are referring to. I was quoting Hamlet, Act I, Scene 2, where Hamlet mourns his dead father. I was referring to Pete's incredible, unique talent The exact line is "He was a man, take him for all in all,
I shall not look upon his like again." There is your English lesson for today.
@Too many munsters What does his sexual orientation have to do with my comment??? But since you keep bringing it up, FYI, he said he was bi-sexual, in his life was married to two women, had a son, and was married to a woman at the time of his death.
This song is a masterpiece, so succinctly defining what makes punk unique as a genre, attitude, worldview.
R.I.P Pete, thanks for the tunes mate. :-(
Sad day
RIP Pete :'(
RIP Pete
The most boring thing I can think of to say about Boredom is it's my favourite song about boredom. Berdum, berdum ...
Take that Green Day and the jam and whoever else I feel like talking about most original Punk I've ever heard
I'm living in this movie but it doesn't move me.
I'm all ready a has been.
1977.. 41 years back today.
Boredom
Anything but boring.
the vocalist sounds pretty close to john lydon
This album is a black dwarf of gravitational pull.
Kurt Cobain said the Buzzcocks were his favorite band so I check em out and now I am a fan too, cool huh LOL
This video has more views than Spiral Scratch had copies pressed.
... should still have a shitload more, mind.
The first self released, truly independent punk single in the UK...
classic 77
This was an EP though, not an album.
Ba-dum Ba-dum
Ya well I say what I mean
"boredom...badum badum"-Tony Wilson
loved the Buzzcocks...thanks to Linus McLaughlin and one of the Bradley's
Made a BOREDOM badge and got chucked out of my biology class for wearing it.
That's the most boring guitar solo ever. ;)
...it doesn't move me ;) ...
That's the whole point of the solo it reflects the dawning of the new era of Punk Rock and out goes the dinosaur era of the guitar virtuoso boring 10 minute solo, the monotonous two note repetitive guitar solo in the song Boredom is pure genius. Bear in mind this is also the first independently released punk rock record ever a hugely influential masterpiece.
The most genius you mean.
Listenin to this during a lecture, probably not a good idea lol
You learn to play the guitar. 3 chords max... When your playing classical gas and grow your hair quit.
Just went through all my old vinyl and no needle on the only fucking player i have left l so im here thanks for the upload !!!Off to see if there`s any good ATV and Wire i can rip audio off
i got sent out of a music lesson at school in 1977 for singing this out loud while we were rehearsing a song from 'joseph and the amazing technicolor dream coat'.
Haha great story! good on you mate!
Well done - only sensible response I can imagine in that situation ha ha
peter craven 10/10
that my friend made my day reading that … fantastic
Yes.
My own mum threw me out of recorder class for the same
¥ou have to be so inconceivably clever to put together a song this stupid this well.
Howard always be the best
"Boredom" is exciting.
2:28 though
Hellz yeah!!!
SS is not an album,it's a single
@Warrogue1 No no no...you're wrong. An EP IS a single...why you insist you are right and the governing body so to speak, the singles chart is wrong I have no idea.
@sugarkaneandchloe I say I am right because I am old enough to have a boxful of singles from the 1960s, when you went into a record store and paid about a dollar for a single that had the hit song as the A side and a lesser known song as the B side. You played them at 45 rpm speed on your record player. I first remember buying EPs in the late '70s. They are larger in diameter than a single, had more songs than a single, but fewer than an album, and are played at 33 rpm, same as an album. New bands lacking funds to produce an album produced EPs to test the market, often on independent labels, as Buzzcocks did. I have several EPs in my basement as well. This was long before CDs or streaming existed. Just because the singles chart (not sure which chart you are referring to. Billboard?) lumps EPs together with singles does not make them the same thing. They probably lump them together for convenience sake, rather than list them separately since there aren't enough EPs to have their own chart.
@Warrogue1 BILLBOARD? WTH are you on about? No I am English which could be why I know more about this than you. Also do you even HAVE Spiral Scratch? As it plays on 45 RPM. I have the original single and a few of the reissues from '81.All of which are 7", play at 45 RPM and...are singles.
For a very brief time,I agree EP's did have their own charts. Which does not make them albums.
A 12" EP ( as for example the GBH single) is 12",plays at 33 RPM, has eight songs on it...and it's still a single.
Not going to argue with you any more. An EP is a single, always has been, always will be. Larger in diameter? No they aren't.They are usually 7". Same size as a single because...they are singles. If not, they are twelve inches and STILL...a single.
I have a huge huge collection of vinyl and really don't know why you are labouring this. I do however get your point about young bands producing EP's due to lack of funds. That's a given and not up for discussion . However, Spiral Scratch is a single, always WAS a single and is a perfect example of DIY punk and my second proudest possession after my leather.
@sugarkaneandchloe The term single meant one song per side. When the records you refer to started being sold here, they were referred to as EPs. But you can call them whatever you want.
@Warrogue1 Not here it didn't. Never mind... just go your merry way and DW about the correct terminology.

"Boredom, ba dum ba dum."
Drumming''s pretty off.
Still good, though.
The singer always reminds me of a mixture of George Harrison and Johnny Rotten.
Learned about this group from watching a BBC documentary on punk rock while in an Edinburgh hotel room.
best 3 note solo ever!
"My favorite song is entitled Boredom" - Orange Juice
