As an American, I will say that MOST of our music is indeed complete shit, but there's also a very talented minority that people might find interesting (e.g. Fair to Midland, early Dredg, Abigail's Ghost). In essence, there is still some glimmer of hope in American music ;)

@MF3GT All these bands are great. It just frustrates me that they got zero pub. in the states. People listen to boring ass pop music that has a shelf life of 8 weeks here. Bands like this give me hope that quality is still alive and well.

@MrPeteMurrell - Muse have been together since the mid 90's and released their first album in 1999, the same year that Butterfly Effect formed ... mind you, I think that this is their most "Muse-y" song, their other stuff doesn't really have such a Muse influence to my ears.

As far as I can tell, music in the U.S. seems pretty lousy right now. Majority of the smaller and more creative bands have very little support... leaving us with less shows and venues closing.

That said I'll be catching Karnivool for the second time in September.

But different music incorporates different messages, sometimes that's not the whole idea. Sometimes political, or personal philosophies are incorporated and it takes the song deeper than a person will realize when they just listen to the tune and that's it, with the feelings they take in.
