Bush, Kate - Lake Tahoe Lyrics

Lake Tahoe.
Cold mountain water. Don't ever swim there.
Just stand on the edge and look in there.
And you might see a woman down there.
They say some days, up she comes, up she rises, as if out of nowhere.
Wearing Victorian dress.
She was calling her pet, "Snowflake! Snowflake!"
Tumbling like a cloud that has drowned in the lake.
Just like a poor, porcelain doll...
Her eyes are open but no-one's home.
The clock has stopped.
So long she's gone.
No-one's home.
Her old dog is sleeping.
His legs are frail now.
But when he dreams,
He runs...
Along long beaches and sticky fields.
Through the Spooky Wood looking for her.
The beds are made. The table is laid.
The door is open - someone is calling: It's a woman.
"Here boy, here boy! You've come home!
I've got an old bone and a biscuit and so much love.
Miss me? Did you miss me?
Here's the kitchen - There's your basket.
Here's the hall - That's where you wait for me.
Here's the bedroom - You're not allowed in there.
Here's my lap - That's where you lay your head.
Here boy, oh you're a good boy.
You've come home.
You've come home."

I really didn't like this song or album at all when I first started listening (and I am fanatically in love with most of her other songs) However, after randomly deciding to listen to this album one day I started to sense tickle of emotion. Then gradually I started liking her songs on this album, and and now I think it's some of her best work,

    Thank you!

  3. P.... ....

    masterpiece

Vocal melody/singing makes me think she's sort of channeling Scott Walker in parts. That almost bluesy, but a little eerie feel. I wasn't huge on 50 Words first listen but it's already growing on me - such uneasy calm, like staring out the window on a snowy evening. She's still one of the most uncompromising and visionary artists the world has seen.

You know what - imagine if the woman in the lake 'under ice' is depressed Mrs Bartolozzi 'Under Ice'. And is it completely coincidental that's a dog in the imagery - a frozen hound of love?

Please see my channel for a magical tour of 96 of Kate Bush's songs, including Lake Tahoe, which is a gorgeous piece of shifting music. Something of a moody spiritual successor to Mrs Bartolozzi in my mind. The playlist order is to create a mood/tell a story. Hence 'Under Ice' isn't far away

Bought The Kick Inside when I was 24 years old. Loved Kate ever since. Her music has been the greatest inspiration to me. Love you Kate

honestly scares me when her voice comes in after the choir. it's like a sudden surge of power

  11. T.... ....

maybe the most sad thing i ever heard or saw.

    I can't stop listening <3

Is the same Kate who wrote Cloudbusting, Breathing, The Dreaming, Violin ecc???? I really don't understand why most of you like this album. It is a completely non sense work. No ideas, no arrangement, no sense of measure. I really don't understand why do you like this (and I'm a really big fan of her music)!

I love this album, it's so calming and dark. Kind of reminds me of her slower songs from TKI and Lionheart. Feel it and Kashka from Baghdad vibes.

Snowflake and Lake Tahoe in particular do really open up. Misty's almost as good. The unusual changes of 'old' might be less explicitly pronounced but they are particularly great songs from the album. Is the whole album as great or as great as Aerial? No, not really but it also complements the 'Under Ice' and domestic stories of 'old albums'. She's quite elemental, Kate Bush, and this is her snow period (that's not a suggestion for a song by the way - someone menstruating in the snow. Her songs are only rarely deliberately provocative and, when they are, some political angle is there).

Its an album of subtlety that's best appreciated in the winter months when its mood is amplified and in resonates with the season

    you fool

    A.... C....

@Neil Mayor its simply great in Winter

Most songs like this one from this cherished album of hers very much seem like a throwback to Kate`s (precocious teenage) roots prior to her late-70s début: hammering it out on her piano while singing to her ♥'s content. :)

This, I find her demos absolutely wonderful and always wondered why only few people like it and read that most fans doesn't like 50wfs which is very similar to her roots as you said.

  15. P.... S....

Unique song from a unique woman!

  16. M.... H....

    thank you so much

  17. M.... H....

I'm so glad I got to see her
