Bush, Kate - Flower Of The Mountain Lyrics
Yes, first I gave him the bit of seedcake out of my mouth
And it was leap year like now, yes
16 years ago my God after that long kiss
I nearly lost my breath, yes
He said I was a flower of the mountain, yes
Stepping out
Of the page
Into the sensual world
Stepping out
And Gibraltar as a girl where I was a flower of the mountain yes
When I put the rose in my hair like the Andalusian girls used
Or shall I wear a red, yes
And how he kissed me under the Moorish wall
Stepping out
Of the page
Into the sensual world
[x2]
And then I asked him with my eyes to ask again, yes
And then he asked me would I, yes, to say yes, my mountain flower
And first I put my arms around him, yes and drew him down to me
So he could feel my breasts or perfume, yes
And his heart was going like mad and yes, I said yes, I will, yes

Bush, Kate Flower Of The Mountain Comments
In my personal opinion The Sensual World is on another level with visual side, dance, breathing, yessss. My eyes are not becoming wet with this version. Sorry.
Je préfère cette version revisitée à la version originelle "The sensual world".
Uncut version the sensual world, very exciting.
You Darling ever so besutifull and radiant vivacious vaper nerd r my flower of the mountains,LOVE YA SO MuCH!!!!!!!!*Xsee ya Saturday , have a day trip idea, how's about a trip to burgess hill hope u wanna go with me?!!enjoy the song and sunshine rosy cheeks ever so pretty and amazing vaper nerd love ya solo much
This version is ok but I really feel like she shouldn’t have touched the masterpiece that the original one is,then again this version is barely different so it’s fine but the original will always reign superior
She sure is a flower of the mountain to me XXXXXXXX
Ms.Kate is a beautiful flower!
Oooh yes! An then they didn't have sex for 10 years, Molly starts an affair with Boylan and Bloom masturbates publicly in front of young girls. THE END!
Wondering at what age she recorded this version?
Adret 200 2011 I think, so 50 something?
She was 52
It's not because of smoking - Kate had children and that immediately lowers your register
Oh dear......
wow, what happened to her voice.
just listen to the 2011 version of Lily to erase any doubts you have
“I’m very influenced in my writing by old or traditional folk songs, ballads handed down by new generations of musicians but with the original atmosphere and emotions still maintained. “The sort of music my mother, who’s Irish, would have listened to and danced to, and used to play for me when I was very little. It’s still probably my biggest influence.”
Sounds good!!! I love it!!!(^^♪
stunning !!! love both versions
The stream of consciousness lyrical style from the early 20th century mixed with traditional sounding atmosphere. It's perfect.
Its identic With. Flowers and also Genious.
That bass is too heavy for me; it's distracting. I like it that the bells at the start now sound flawed (and more real) and I like the fact that she doesn't drown those beautiful uilleann pipes with a vocal (on the first chorus).
The bass makes me feel like someones shagging me. I love it.
the bass is pulse. the life force. Molly knows.
No, she still smoked afterwards. She was still smoking during the recording of The Sensual World - gaffa.org/reaching/i89_mm.html
legal essa música
but she used to smoke...
Kate was a chain smoker for several years of her life especially in her youth. She has apparently quit during intervening years.

love both versions, love kate bush with all my heart. the vocal does seem a little out of balance with the instrumental at first, but i think of it this way: the new vocal has a much greater feeling of proximity and intimacy, which contrasts well with the more subdued instrumental.
i've been told that the yes's in both versions are meant to have a certain subtle (or not so subtle) orgasmic overtone, and that really comes out in this version.
lol kate bush has NEVER smoked to my knowledge. the effects you're hearing on her voice? well, that's simply what happens to some voices after a good 20 years or so—it gets lower, darker, richer even.
Charles Henahan wrong! Many many pictures of her smoking. She believed it helped her voice!
She smoked and not just cigarettes. She was regularly stone in the late 70s and 80s (several reports about this). I guess it helped her.
I've seen her do interviews with a Silk Cut on the go - not sure if that counts as smoking though! :D
Some background/extra footage from one of her tours, she's being interviewed while smoking. Didn't seem to have much of an effect on her voice...
I'm not black and I love the bass, lol.
Amen to that, fantastic way of putting it! She's world class, artists with this much talent kind of scare me: It reminds me how untalented I am!
Amo questa musica!!!love Kate!!!!!1
While instrumentally this is very nice---I prefer Kate's voice in the original. Years of smoking have taken it's toll on her voice.
The bass line, her phrasing and the original quote from Joyce's book: I absolutely love this version!!!
hmmm......no
Actually now that I've given it a few listens I can see where she's coming from. It's actually not bad, the slowness makes it more seductive. I like the way she gave the chorus a Moorish twist because Molly kissed the officer under the Moorish wall (it says so in the lyrics). I love those little moments of Bush genius when she has Uilleann pipes sounding Arabic. Hmmm yes, she still has it.
I agree, creativity thrives on adversity sometimes. If George Lucas had his way we would have had a Flash Gordon remake that would have faded into obscurity. I thought Kate's lyrics were fine to begin with, in fact she inspired me to read Ulysses. Anyway, let's hope Kate doesn't read these posts. ;o)
@Eamonnnn While it's annoying she was denied permission, from an artistic standpoint, it's probably better because she came up with something more original. It was still clearly about Molly Bloom, but it wasn't a slavish lifting of the Joyce's words. All the important stuff was there, especially the repetition of 'Yes', which is so insistent in the text. The Sensual World lyrics aren't simply a bodge, but are great in their own right. 'Inspired by' is usually preferable I think.
@DSDMovies Yes you're right. No cohesion. The song's too slow and should have more pace, Molly tended to speak as she thought and not ponder over everything as Kate is doing in this song. The melody is great and the concept is great, but I prefer the original. What a pity that c*u*n*t Stephen Joyce stopped her from quoting extracts from the novel in the first place, it would have saved her having to revisit a song that was fine to begin with. As the saying goes, 'if it ain't broke don't fix it.'
@Eamonnnn The vocals seem heavy and imposed on top of the backing, instead of part of the song as a whole. Can't help feeling that all it would have taken is a different mix with the same vocal track. It's just not produced very well.
Just bought the album. YEEEEEESSSS!
I LOVE HER!
Molly Bloom...Yeeesssss
I would very much like to have heard the version she would have made with this licensing, but back in the 80s
I think having to adapt Joyce's words rather than use them direct did this song a big favour. "Wear a sunset" was one of my favourite lyrics before.
Yes! At last this track is exactly what it always should have been
Absolutely perfect - well done Kate
I love this new version, it's so sexy! I really don't see why we need to compare old and new versions both are beautiful in their own way.
because mist people live under an illusion that they can 'choose' and 'compare'
I love Kate Bush so much, but this is crap. The original had more life and energy in it, but this is flacid and dull. Fingers crossed the new stuff will be better and this will be remembered as an embarrssing stop gap. I really do.
LOVE THIS! Im so pleased Kate released the song how she intended it with Joyce's words...
I do think Kate's lyrics from the Sensual World flowed more... but i love joyces work and kate bush so this is just perfect....
