Burl Ives - Pearly Shells Lyrics

Pearly shells (pearly shells)
From the ocean (from the ocean)
Shining in the sun (shining in the sun)
Covering the shore (covering the shore)
When I see them
My heart tells me that I love you
More than all the little pearly shells

For every grain of sand upon the beach
I've got a kiss for you
And I've got more left over for each star
That twinkles in the blue

Pearly shells (pearly shells)
From the ocean (from the ocean)
Shining in the sun (shining in the sun)
Covering the shore (covering the shore)
When I see them
My heart tells me that I love you
More than all the little pearly shells

For every grain of sand upon the beach
I've got a kiss for you
And I've got more left over for each star
That twinkles in the blue

Pearly shells (pearly shells)
From the ocean (from the ocean)
Shining in the sun (shining in the sun)
Covering the shore (covering the shore)
When I see them
My heart tells me that I love you
More than all the little pearly shells
(More than all the little pearly shells)

    beautiful song

  2. S.... C....

This album came out when I was a toddler. It brings back memories of sitting on my grandmother's lap while my grandfather played the eukalele to it. It was a different world then, a better one in some ways, and Burl Ives songs formed a big part of my childhood. This song, like no other, makes me cry for those who I loved who are gone. I can not explain why.

    Burl Ives in my heart!!

  32. L.... F....

So true - that is how I heard his songs then - on a portable record player in my parent's bedroom.

  33. D.... F....

    very old song

  34. p.... p....

    Liked that song.

  35. L.... F....

He had a really warm welcoming voice. We had his 45 with Shanghaied and Pearly Shells back in the early 60's. He was very gentle win his voice also.

    L.... F....

Yes this recording by Burl Ives became a somewhat of a classic hit back in the 1960's. But nevertheless, it sure brings back fond childhood memories from back then such as portable record players and Kodak Instamatic Cameras (just to name a couple)

    L.... F....

    What a beautiful singer.......lovely song.

    L.... F....

I had a cassette tape by him

  36. D.... S....

Burl Ives probably sings the best version of "Pearly Shells"

  43. R.... A....

.....many people don't know how big a trip this guy could be.....my parents used to go to some of his concerts....at one there was a " heckler" and Ives gave him the finger (on stage)....he got in a fistfight with one of his stagehands at another.....

  63. H.... ....

Great music of old. I also grew up in this time span, and life did seem simpler and the stars, singers preformers of then were much more than today. I miss a lot of them . Bless em all.

  64. G.... W....

This singer was my Dad's favorite. This song played in our house on an old "Hi-Fi" along with all the stars from that day. I too grew up with Burl Ives, Dean Martin, Jo Stafford, Julie London, Jim Reeves on and on. On the television we watched Bonanza, Red Skelton, Milton Berle, Arthur Godfrey. We didn't know it but that was such a gentle innocent time compared to what we have today. I miss it greatly as I get older.

  73. t.... ....

can someone pleas put on the brass bottle movie with burl ives and
    tony randall etc

  74. V.... ....

Burl Ives was a very good actor and an outstanding song interpreter, one of my favorite singers. In my opinion, he was a little better singer than Bing Crosby, but he didn't have the opportunity to sing with the beautiful women Bing sang with such as Peggy Lee, Dinah Shore, Doris Day, Rosemary Clooney, probably because he wasn't good looking enough like Bing. Just looking at Burl makes me laugh and puts a smile on my face.

  75. P.... H....

You are all forgetting something - Jerry Byrd on the lapsteel guitar. He is the best lapsteel player ever. What would this song be without the lapteel guitar ?. However, it would still be a great song.

  76. F.... 0....

I'm 40 years old and Ive never appreciated this song until now. I was 6 years then (70s) when I first heard this music while I was still in the pre-school. I didnt thought this will be the most memorable song I will ever cherish for the rest of my life. I was so deprived of my childhood and wish I can bring it back and enjoy the time.

  82. j.... ....

-I was born in 79 - NONE of my peers even know who Burl Ives was.... May he, and the other greats rest in peace.
