Built To Spill - Kicked It In The Sun Lyrics
Backwashed thoughts
And you made me talk
No, you made me listen
There's a feeling
Theres something, theres nothing
You haven't seen
Tiny TV's on at 3
So serene
No place to be
Alone
So come on over, yeah
Let's sit down a little while
You will find the same things
Same things, same things
Same things, same things
By the time you read this
You kicked it in the sun
It was all that you could do
How could you refuse?
You kicked it in the sun
It was all you had to do
You kicked it in the sun
It was all you had to do, how could you refuse?
And you kicked it in the sun
It was wrong and it was rude
And you kicked it in the sun
It was wrong and it was rude, how could you refuse?
And you kicked it in the sun
It's alright now
I'm getting over getting mine
It's alright now
I'm getting over getting mine
He seemed so unashamed of how he operated
Corresponds to the facts that you want
Despite his expectations he turned out mediocre
His master plan was so so
We're special in other ways
Ways our mothers appreciate
That net does not make me feel safe
All those holes make me nervous
He woke up late that morning
Went to the window and saw
The sun had stopped its shining
So, so
We're special in other ways
Ways our mothers appreciate
We're special in other ways
Ways our mothers appreciate

the only bts we love ❤
This song is lovely.
When I was 19 I got arrested peddling dope to keep my own habit afloat, kicked in jail then did a couple weeks of rehab before I got back home... I had three squares of blotter in my room from before I'd left, and I wanted to really lock in everything that had happened and try to keep myself clean, do some "metaprogramming"/self-hypnosis as they say--psychedelics are good for that particular intentful use... So I took the three hits, put on my headphones, and gave this album a try--before then I barely knew this band, but a friend had brought me to a show once where I saw Built to Spill and Cat Power share a bill, they were both news to me, but I remember Built to Spill played Velvet Waltz and that's what made me get the album and stick it on my ipod (was a cool fucken way to find a good band haha)... So I took a chance on it as I laid in my dark bedroom and waited for the comeup... aaand the album pretty well sang back the last three years of my life to me, and by the time I got to this track I was in tears of joy, just grinning in the dark, and I stayed clean for a long time off that good momentum haha, it strengthened my resolve, both like I'd hoped it would and at the same time on a level I could never have predicted. Down the line I relapsed and got clean again, and relapsed and got clean, that's what addicts do, took me awhile to finally just stabilize on meds... but even now hearing this track makes my spine tingle right up to the crown of my skull, and I feel all the warmth and youth and power of that moment, and fuck is it ever cool to just have that lightning bottled in a track like this--like if I've got eight minutes and a set of headphones I can reliably elevate myself to a temporary state of grace haha. Anyone who says magic isn't real just hasn't heard the right music yet.
John Soutter love ya man, you’re story is very relatable
I am special
Doug is so real.
This song is the entire 60s that became the 90s condensed into the true beauty we can appreciate in the 2000s
So beautiful!!! Nothing out there like this!!! I tell ya what!!! C:
To this day one of my top 10 songs. Never fails!
I've converted a lot of people to BTS over the years and every time it's with this very track.
I always say the same thing as I set them up for what you're about to hear:
"Listen, you're gonna hear the song start and you'll thing 'wow, this band is pretty good. I'm surprised I've never heard them before.' Then you're going to forget that the song is playing...it'll fade into the background...and then...about 4 minutes in...you'll notice something changing..and you'll remember how I said this was the greatest band you've never heard of...and you'll start to listen more closely...and your heart rate will actually go up as you begin to hear it for the first time....and when it's over...you'll say 'holy [email protected] is the best g*dd@mn band I've ever heard in my life....'". Works EVERY time....
3:24 such an amazing part. probably my favorite BTS moment ever
i want to jpin the online muaic cpmmunity

Cj Taylor fucking brilliant
Such a special song. I love it so much
Brilliant song, great outro!
Great song about the feelings surrounding a relationship that didn't work out perfectly, expectations not being met and bit of communication i'd say, why not?
One of the greats...
Great song to say the least
Backwashed thots
Apples in Mono ha, this is all I hear now. Perfect 👌
BTS Apex. Beautiful guitar and beautifully mixed
This song is a bona fide masterpiece, it can hang with any of the so called rock classics
3:20 - 4:20 is literally the best minute of music I have ever hear in my entire life.
I don't think anything can top it.
It is so amazing
I saw an article that said BTS was annoying and boring. CAN YOU BELIEVE THATSHIT?
I just adore this band. Always puts out a quality song.
best on 2x speed
There are only a few songs out there that will make me cry every time I hear it. Even in my 30's I don't think it's a bad thing to weep at the beauty of this song when I discovered this in 2000. Simply a classic masterpiece that should NEVER be forgotten.
Happy 420 everyone. I love how this breaks right at 4:20
Ada and Irene are streets in the north end of Boise, ID where we live. Life here is good, c'mon over yeah!
I love blasting this song driving through that area
1:28 - 1:59 is what I imagine being in love feels like
I'd like to see it but it's something you just feel, and I'd like to feel it but it just isn't real

Come back to Eugene!
Just amazing. I saw them live in St. Louis last year. They have so many great songs, it's impossible to choose a favorite.
I was at that same show brother, it was simply amazing.
this song makes me feel better.
I could listen to this forever
literally on repeat :)
Can't say I blame you. It is the finest song ever written
fuck this song is gold
The "we're special" part is one of my favorite BtS moments, period.
It is my fav. Makes me feel special ^^
Hands down.
Agreed. Particularly 6:47 when the lead kicks in. Songwriting at it's finest.
Come on over yeahhhh
I want to do lsd to this so bad
back-washed thoughts
cant believe how good this is
this song is a fuckin masterpiece
Right on Brother...
yeah bloody oath. the transitions are soo brilliant in this track. and the final verse/outro segment is utterly amazing.
Agree with every word above. The transitions and the final segment are out of this world. Sounded absolutely nothng like this when I saw them live though. Massive disappointment.
are you sure? i saw them live and it was amazing, they even performed this track and i loved it.
Gotta agree with USA Reject. Maybe Neil saw them on an off night. I saw them play this one live and it was even better than the recording.
Since people are bringing it up, I'm gonna go ahead and say that Built to Spill, Modest Mouse and even No Age, have some similiarities, love it, love all bands
moddest mouse couldnt kiss BTS' shoes... so unfotunate they arent as popular as they should be. I'm yet to hear a bad BTS song and dougs voice has dominion over all
Meeki ...I know this was way old... but in the 90s modest mouse used to open for bts quite regularly and was how I learned of them. really good shows!
BTS has a pretty strong fan base on the west coast... When i moved to the Midwest, practically NO ONE even knew who built to spill was
Everyone compares BTS to Modest Mouse, but BTS aren't obnoxious.
intro is bliss
I live for the beginning
yes it is
thank you so much
I want to know more about your music tastes :)
Immediate recommendation: Ponytail by Panda Bear
I think I saw God during this song :)
I have found this album to be very helpful during difficult times. BTS are my favorite band, ever and this is one of their best songs. Kind of a bummer that more people don't know about them but that is popular American music for you. Also: 4:21 to 4:45 is one of the most insanely beautiful things I've ever heard.
Quem precisa de drogas? Esse som nos leva à outra dimensão!!!
Hope things are going better for you now dude, and you're still listening to BTS, take care..
I have found so much great music today..
Psst, try cannabis
ifyou like build to spill check the earlier works of art of modest mouse, you wont regret it!
I just can't believe they've been around since '92 and I'm now finding out about them, they're quickly becoming my favorite band
AMEN to that!!
beautifull song one of my favs off of p.f.n.o.!
Oh and there's another molto accelerando at 5:17 and even at 6:12; kewl :)
It sounds like they even modulate in and out of several different keys over the course of seven minutes too :o
this is like four different songs. nice.
My new favourite band
they are a fantastic band. Love this shit
that intro is absolutely mind blowing
i think he was saying that if their sounds had children, smarty pants
I think Built to Spill deserve to be more widely known than they currently are.
One of the best albums ever made, period.
well put
Modest Mouse praises Built to Spill as their biggest influence, dumbass
when EITS and Modest Mouse were kids, there was already Built to Spill.
We're special in other ways
ways our mother appreciate
if explosions in the sky and modest mouse had a kid theyd get built to spill!
Moon & Antartica def my fave from Modest Mouse.
they definitely have similarities. I've seen Doug and Issac talk eathother up. Definitely mutual respect between the bands. Can't go wrong with either band. Moon and Antarctica and Building Nothing Out of Something are two of my favorite albums period.
Totally. Both great bands :D
Modest Mouse reminds me of this a little bit
the beautiful opening reminds me of classic sixties melodic pop songs like santo and johnny 's sleepwalking. Modest mouse do an awesome cover of sleepwalking with lyrics, that musically and even lyrically has a similar feel to kicked it in the sun
This song has about 4 Boise references in it. Brilliant when a successful band doesn't forget where they came from.
this songs great so smooth
@TheNumberOneGuyDude sure dudebro.
we're speciAl in Other ways. waAys thaAAAT.. our mOthers APPreciate
wow the end of this song is fucking awesome. built to spill is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands
I've got a noose ready for whoever disliked this. Been blown away by this band since '93
Just found out about this band on Pandora, and I love it. Desperately needed a new favorite band.
I kicked it in the sun
Why is there an X factor ad before this. like Simon would ever let a guy like Doug ever get air time.....
easily in my top 5 songs of all time
This song is great all the way through, but it really gets killer at about 4:45.
One of my favorite albums of all time. A friend of mine turned me on to BTS and Perfect from now on back on 98 and I swear that CD did not leave my CD player for five years!!
@TheIncognitusMe I put Perfect from now on in my CD player back in 1998 and it has not left. It is by far one of my favorite albums of all time. Top five. Enjoy!
This band reminds me so much of Modest Mouse. I just started listening to them on accident, only their Perfect From Now On album.
@thejonathann
i agree, many people would love this kind of music if 1.they were exposed to it and 2. actually took time to read and appriciate lyrics
@thejonathann It amazes me that so many are confused as to why this band/song have gone un appreciated/un noticed by so many when the answers are buried in the song itself, 'we're special in other ways
ways our mothers appreciate'. But rest assured that they will be be perfect from now on.
@thejonathann there loss my brother, let them keep bangin that Boom Boom Pow. For some of us Music appears to mean a lot more. BTW this song kills me
Words cannot describe how much I love this song. It just... glows. This is what morning light sounds like.
these songs make me wanna get high...
the intro reminds me a lot of sleepwalk, the song written by santo e johnny
@jamesoshea4444 you're right. their underappreciated by the ones who didn't take the time and mind to know them. it just bugs me that people miss out on alot of great music, that i'm sure they can physically enjoy, just because they are not exposed to it. only because the big flashy guns get most time on the air. because mainstream media can't care less about innovation, or art, they are in it for the lowest common ground. cause it's the most profitable. i just want to share good experience.
