Buck Owens - Tired Of Livin' Lyrics

Well, I'm tired of livin' and I'm scared of dyin'
I can't get ahead and there's no use a tryin'
Things would better change and I ain't a lyin'
Somethin' better happen pretty soon.

Yeah, the people workin' around and everyday
Are gettin' promotion and raisin' pay
But I keep a workin' the same old way
And somethin' better happen pretty soon.

Yeah, the man next door owns a forty room shack
Rides around ever day in a big Cadillac
But I'm still walkin' that's a fact
Seems somethin' better happen pretty soon.

Well, I'm tired of livin' and I'm scared of dyin'
I can't get ahead and there's no use a tryin'
Things would better change and I ain't a lyin'
Somethin' better happen pretty soon.

[Instrumental]

Well, everybody's got a girl to call his own
But I keep on a livin' all alone
Like a king without a throne
Somethin' better happen pretty soon.

Well, my brother Bill, he's a never broke
He has worked so slick and that ain't no joke
If things don't change I'm afraid I'll croak
Somethin' better happen pretty soon.

Yeah, I'm tired of livin' and I'm scared of dyin'
I can't get ahead and there's no use a tryin'
Things would better change and I ain't a lyin'
Somethin' better happen pretty soon...

This song was actually written by a singer named Rollie Webber He was performing in the bars in Tacoma, WA when Buck Owens played here for a time. Owens met Don Rich up in this area. I have known musicians who worked with Buck Owens when he was here. Anyway, Rollie recorded this song before Buck Owens and for some reason when Owens recorded this song he claimed he was the author, his name appeared on the record as the writer. Many of the old timer musicians in this area have related this story to me. Apparently they tried to get Rollie to file a lawsuit but he became fond of alcohol and nothing ever came of it. Some said a number of Buck Owens' first hits were penned by Rollie but Rollie failed to file copy wrights so he had no legal claim to loyalties, Owens claimed to be the author. Some say Owens stole Rollie's song, recorded them in Bakersfield and became a star. I remember Rollie's guitar. His name was inlaid between the frets on the neck with a star between his first and last names. I played drums for Rollie in the early 1970s but he was working in dives by then. The last I heard of Rollie is he became a terrible alcoholic and they put him on a bus and sent him back to Oklahoma where he was from.

I've long suspected someone other than Owens wrote it.Buck Owens wrote "rhymes" & "Tired Of Liviin'' Is a song! I was raised in Longview, Washington & if i recall correctly, Don Rich was from up the road in Tumwater.

Yes, Don Rich was from somewhere here in the NW, might be Tumwater. There used to be a big dance hall somewhere in that area where all of these guys played. I'm thinking it was the Evergreen Ballroom but not sure of that either.

Plaquato Ballroom in Chehalis, Washington. I saw Buck Owens/Don Rich perform in early 60's there. Don Rich's parents were there as well, from Tumwater I recall. By the way: The original Capitol 45 rpm release of "Tired Of Livin' does indeed credit Mr. Rollins as co-writer.
