Buck Owens - But You Know I Love You Lyrics

When the morning sun streaks across my room
And I'm wakened up from another dream of you
Yes, I'm on the road once again it seems
All that's left behind is a chain of broken dreams.

But you know I love you, yes I love you, oh I love you.

How I wish that love was all we'd need to live
Oh, what a life we'd have 'cause I've got so much to give
And it seems so wrong deep inside my heart
That the dollar sign should be keeping us apart.

But you know I love you, yes I love you, oh I love you.

And if only I could find my way back to the time
When the problems of this life had not yet crossed my mind
For the answer could be found in children's nursery rhymes
I'd come running back to you, I'd come running back to you.

Though you know we can't live on dreams alone
And to pay the rent I must leave you all alone
You know I made my choice many years ago
Now this traveling life is the only one I know.

But you know I love you, yes I love you, oh I love you.
But you know I love you, yes I love you, oh I love you.
But you know I love you, yes I love you, oh I love you.
But you know I love you, yes I love you, oh I love you...

Great to see Don Rich with Buck here 👍

  2. D.... W....

What a pair of good friends Don & Buck they were tight when Don died in 1974 Buck said I did something that I never did before I got & went to work the magic was gone when he passed they had worked together since 1959

  3. f.... ....

Jesus H that boy with the tambo would make me a great hubby

  4. J.... B....

Great collaboration between Buck, Don, Jim and John Hager, and Susan Rae.

  5. T.... W....

My favorite version is Wynn Stewart ...but this is strong

  6. b.... ....

no she is not, Willie Cantu is, her Husband Jerry Wiggens is, Doyle Curtsinger is and a few more of the Buckaroos!!

  7. J.... K....

"Worth noting that this was written by Dolly Parton as a farewell to Porter Wagoner as she prepared to take off on her own career."  Um - no that was "I Will Always Love You."  Dolly Parton didn't record this until 1981.   This song was written by Mike Nettles.  It was recorded by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition in 1968.  It was also recorded by Bill Anderson.

    J.... K....

No it was not... This song has NOTHING to do with Dolly and she had nothing to do with it.

  8. J.... K....

Susan Raye is the only one still living.

  9. R.... D....

Worth noting that this was written by Dolly Parton as a farewell to Porter Wagoner as she prepared to take off on her own career.

    R.... D....

Are all you people stupid? Dolly Parton had nothing to do with this song! Nothing she didn't write it she didn't sing it nothing!

    R.... D....

A band member of Kenny Rogers and the 1st Edition wrote it. Dolly had absolutely NOTHING to do with it. What a cornball sentiment and story sheesh

  10. R.... D....

Thanks so much for this, a treasure for fans of Don and Buck.

I was young when HeeHaw was on TV ,but today I still have a genuine love for all the great artists that appeared on that show, They were the real deal compared to most of what passes for country music today. At that time I thought the Haggar Twins were creepy and after watching this video today they still give me the creeps.

  12. J.... ....

I think I was 10 years old then, but I still remember it.

  13. e.... ....

This aired in 1969, during the first season of Hee Haw.

  14. J.... ....

Does anyone know what year this aired? I'm guessing 1969 - 1970????????

    J.... ....

Jerrie I think it was recorded in August 1969

  15. D.... W....

    Exactly right!!!!

  16. D.... W....

its a shame Susan Ray is the only one still alive of this group...country isn't country anymore

    D.... W....

If I remember right Don, died on his motorcycle.. Buck took it hard I heard.. he was like a brother to Buck..

    D.... W....

There are still a few traditional style artists.

  17. w.... ....

    yes, and more.

  18. J.... H....

    Did he really take LSD?

  19. w.... ....

Peyote and 'acid' were not only the purview of the swinging scenes of
    London and San Francisco.
Bakersfield itself was no stranger to these exotic substances.
Buck Owens was an occasional explorer of altered states of awareness.

  20. w.... ....

Conceived in a flash by Buck in response to a staggering LSD trip.

  21. N.... ....

@heywoodjosh Thank you so much! Now, to find that album…

  22. M.... B....

@NQNorman ya it's on the Tall Dark Stranger album

  23. N.... ....

It's driving me crazy! Did they release this in any way, shape or form? I'm not seeing it any Buck Owens discographies. Anyone have any help in this matter?

  24. u.... ....

I hate it that people think nobody sings good songs anymore. They DO!!!! They just don't play them on the radio. So do some digging. There's TONS of quality songs and songwriters out there. Quit wishing for the good old days. They're still here.

  25. 8.... ....

    Brilliant. Absolutely Brilliant.

  26. S.... W....

@shleedca Buck worked perfectly with Don but he created his image and style before he met him and admittedly I think he felt deeply the loss of his partner and dear friend that he stopped entertaining
on the big stage for most part of a decade but thank god Dwight and all Bucks fans got him back out
on the Road.... I also though Don was the guitar boss of the Buckeroos but seeing Buck work closer I see that the man was a master guitarist and second to no one....

  27. K.... M....

this is a Great cover of this song.....Buck rocks!

  28. c.... ....

    now thats a country duo

  29. M.... H....

Buck and Don wherever you are you know we love you!

  30. M.... ....

    @ih8thishit

Would called it rock but I think there were other pop songs at the time that might of had this type of beat.

But I agree this is more contry than anything else.

  31. M.... H....

so clean and so pure incredible!

  32. a.... ....

@ihateusernames300 buck was nothing without don rich by his side, don was the better of the two, so that makes him one of the two most imortant country musicians of all time.

    a.... ....

Interesting fantasy... but really, you should try joining us in the real world.

  33. J.... W....

I've always loved Buck Owens & The Buckaroos, but I like The First Edition's rendition much better if it comes down to choosing between the two.

  34. J.... W....

Buck Owens' cover of this sounds not a whole lot different than Kenny Rogers & The First Edition because you have to realize by this timeframe that Buck was actually progressing and contemporizing his style somewhat.

  35. s.... ....

I love this song, but I'm not so fond of the Hagars making noises in the background that undermine the artistic value of this song.

  36. w.... ....

    @ih8thishit I couldn't agree more !!!

  37. g.... ....

Susan Raye is my all time favorite both singing and looks. Hope there are most posts of her with or without Buck..

  38. W.... D....

    Great, great, great harmony!

  39. C.... Q....

Agreed. This is a great version and Susan Raye looks so damn fine. Too bad girls don't dress like that any more. Now so many young women want to dress like prostitutes :( The flip needs to come back in style for sure.

  40. r.... ....

Actually written by Mike Settle from The First Edition. They are the band that did the song first. Dolly's version was about a dozen or so years later but she did do a good version of it.

  41. M.... H....

    Great--as the most he recorded!

  42. J.... F....

Rest Peacfully Jim & John Hager. God Bless their souls in that big hoedown in the sky

  43. E.... R....

That was a lot of the shows..LOL..

  44. K.... M....

I agree with a prior comment...yes Buck Owens of one of the 3 greats of ALL-TIME....Amazing what he did in the Music world...can you imagine in the 60's Buck was getting 10,000 a show and 10 % of the gate...unheard of... he was a Real ICON ....now the term is thrown around so loosely....Buck Owens invented the word!

  45. d.... ....

Buck Owens was a legend in country music, but one of the best things he ever did was to take Susan under his wing, Bravo Buck... RIP
    Thank u 4 posting

  46. e.... ....

I've looked on the web as well with no luck. Until it's released on CD, the only thing I know to do is to upload the vinyl or cassette version on to the computer and burn a CD.

  47. e.... ....

One of Buck and Don's greatest covers. Someone asked if this song is available on an album. I know it was on Buck's 'Tall Dark Stranger' album but I've never been able to find it on CD. Does anyone else know if this is available on CD?

  48. W.... P....

    Cool! Thanks for posting!

  49. K.... M....

    Buck Owens ....Awesome!
