Buck Owens - Big In Vegas Lyrics
When I was young I left my home
And went away, to Vegas
With my guitar and my dreams,
I had to try to play and sing, in Vegas
But my momma told me I was wrong,
But my will was strong and
I had to make it big, in Vegas
[Chorus:]
They'll put my name up in lights where I play,
And the lines out in front will be long,
I'll get a standing ovation from the people,
When I start to sing my song,
When I turn 'em on in Vegas
And smokey bar, in Vegas
And I guess I don't have
What it takes, for Las Vegas
But my dreams still linger on,
Oh, my faith is almost gone,
But my will is strong and
I've gotta make it big, in Vegas
[Chorus:]
They'll put my name up in lights where I play,
And the lines out in front will be long,
I'll get a standing ovation from the people,
When I start to sing my song,
When I turn 'em on in Vegas
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la, big in Vegas.
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la, big in Vegas.
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la, big in Vegas...

Buck Owens Big In Vegas Comments
A music video was made for the song, depicting Owens singing in a dark room, intercut with footage of Owens performing in concert, as well as scenes of Las Vegas at night. This was seen on the 13th episode of Season 1 of "Hee Haw", which aired on December 17, 1969 on CBS.
I was in 9th or 10th grade Loved Buck
Dreams still linger on ,faith is almost gone ,but my will is strong I got to make it big
Buck Owens was never really accepted into the Nashville crowd. He was an outsider but he made sum of the best Country & Western songs ever that have withstood time. Songs the new generations have embraced.
country when it was good
December 2018 Ya’ll
This was written by Terry Stafford who wrote “Amarillo By Morning” for George Strait. Terry had called it “Big In Dallas”. Buck heard it and asked Terry to change the title so they rewrote it.
One of my favorites from Buck and the boys.😁
This plays at the LAS airport all the time ! Love it!
May he rest in peace with Don rich
Does anyone have a tab of the lick that Don Rich plays at the beginning? Thanks
All dos old country singers r ma favorites especially Buck.Owens . I can't believe I'll find Dis songs again.

Lol I like how in the credits it says Owens and Stafford wrote it. The truth is Terry Stafford wrote the song ( Big in Dallas). Buck just recorded it as Big In Vegas. I agree Vegas sounds much better but Owens did not write this
CLASSIC.......met him a few times....IN BAKERSFIELD CA......much love Tee with LIONS NAMED LEO
Classic Country and a favourite of mine. Remarkable in that this was an original "concept music video" make way back when for a country song.
Wrinkle Neck Mules do an awesome cover of this song. They don't try and re-invent it, but they make it their own while respecting Buck! Good stuff!
love love love

An absolute ALL TIME great. That said, the Wrinkle Neck Mules do an phenomenal cover of this song at their band camp site. Anyone that likes this song should check it out, Very true to the original, yet modern.

@D HM time means nothing
@lyle miller Ignorant replies mean nothing.
country music sucks today
I agree, if you want to call it country
I disagree, have you ever listened to blake Shelton
Buck's best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3rd best behind Made In Japan and Together Again.
Spending the good part of the morning listening to Buck. This video popped up in the "up next" for the first time today. Great to listen to it again. Last time I heard this was on a CD a while back. Thanks for posting this!
Wow, this is brilliant! I saw a snicket of this song and loved it at the end of another Buck video but I didn't know what this was. Glad I've found it after all this time. Thankyou YouTube auto play.

One of my most favorite songs
Buck Owens...what can you say? One of my all time favorites; and Big in Vegas has always been my favorite Buck Owens song. Most of these young guys today...forget it!
JUST saw this on hee haw .BADASS song.
Great song by a great artist.
I'M IN MY TWENTIES AND KNEW I WAS DIFFERENT THAN MOST KIDS, BECAUSE I LOVE THIS STUFF!!
big in vegas is Charles number two song of the great buck owens and the buckaros
this Charles number two song of buck owens songs.
Buck Owens had several "videos" made back then. My guess was this was originally shown on "Hee Haw" given the applause at the end, as was "Tall Dark Stranger" and several others from 1969-1971. As far as country music videos from 1969, I know elsewhere on YouTube there's Glen Campbell's "Galveston" (and it was more than just a video of a guy or band singing in front of a mike) so it's hardly a new concept. Interested in seeing some of the early Don Williams videos. Solid gold!
At least one of them, per several sources (including the liner notes of his 1990 Rhino box set) indicates it was "I Wouldn't Live In New York City (If They Gave Me the Whole Dang Town)."
thank you.
he did a video for sweet rosie jones as well.
Music videos used to be made from TV performances or to pitch the songs for the record company suits.
This was first shown on Hee Haw.
Pure Country....
any song that the great Don Rich backs up Buck in will be great country music
Actually you can hear Don sing harmony with him. This was 1970, and Don crashed in 1974.
For me, its his best song.
My favorite song by Buck Owens.
Love love love it:)
This is my favorite of all of Buck Owens songs. Love love love it.
One of, if not the first, Country music video.
This was the last song Buck ever sang, live on stage at the Crystal Palace in Bakersfield the evening before he passed away. This video was WAAAAYY ahead of its time! Buck did a handful of these, on film like a mini-movie. I wonder if he got the idea from the Beatles' "promo" films for Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, etc.? There was only 1 Buck Owens, and I'm proud to have known him.
Thank-you for putting this song of Buck Owens on YOUTUBE, this is my favorite songs of his. Buck Owens was True Country Music. :)
@usaf317 Same here...I only play Bocephus, Conway, Possum, Wactosha, Travis and Loretta etc. Never listen to anything new hardly. I do however like Jamey Johnson a heck of alot.
Love it, have to go to Vegas!
thanks for the memories Buck
Man this is what real music is and not that watered down shit we got now.
460bigtime u just took the words right out of my mouth although i wouldnt have put it quite that strongly
George W. ??? Is it you???
Its a crime that there is only a little over sixty k views on this. I bet rascal fucking flats "worst video" has over a million hits. I'm ashamed of most of the music put out these days. Just cookie cutter bullshit from ppl that can't sing unless its filtered by a computer first. Fuck you Justin beiber. I hope you fail worse then every ex-singer on celiberty rehab.
Buck's best. A great singer he was. Buck has to me always sounded quite a bit like The Possum but without the nasal sound. Man, I sure do love those old Hee Haw episodes with him and Roy.
CLASSIC IN THE TRUEST DEFINITION OF THE WORD!
This was the last song Buck ever sang on stage.
takes me back when i was little and my dad listin 2 this song and my mom in the kitchen frying chicken.....good times!!!!!!
This is TRUE country music, unlike MOST of today.
Buck made it Big everywhere. and still does in our hearts. Thanks for posting, couldn't find this anywhere.
love it we need more bucks but country went to shit anyway check me out it very raw but its real thanks
one of our favorite songs-i miss you buck!
Buck was one of the best ever and very under appreciated as a songwriter (along with Don Rich). Thanks so much for sharing this with us all. I have never seen this version only the one from Hee-Haw which is also very well done.
this is a old sound but a good one ..
SUCH A DEEP SONG FIVE STARS .
They're both great songs - that's for sure!
"Where Corn Don't Grow" was written by Roger Murrah and someone else and was originally recorded by Waylon Jennings.
This goes to show that music videos have been around for a LONG time.
Unfortunately, they either didn't have
the money, or didn't know that music
videos would be "in".
Love it....idgoback
the new band I joined plays a cover of this one...didn't even know ol'Buck did this one till I did some researchin''...GOOOOD stuff...thanks
I had no idea Buck made a video of this song way back then. Look how young he was! A great song by one of the greatest talents in C&W history. My Dad used to have this stuff crankin' when I was itty-bitty. It musta took, I love it still... Thanks for sharing this!
Was originally made for Hee Haw where Buck sung the song and they superimposed scenes from Buck's concert in Vegas and the strip over
I never heard this song before. It just isn't played on the country music stations available to me, although a lot of Buck's other songs are. I'm glad, though, that I got to see the video with the song first as I find it really adds to the song's impact.
is gac still around?
Love this song too. I wish somebody would also put "Put Another Quarter In The Juke Box" by Buck on here.
Great song. My favorite Buck Owens tune.
Buck was one of my Favorite artists and this song shall never be forgotten. God Bless his Soul
WOW! I don't know what year this is, I was born in '71 myself but, this HAS to be one of the first music videos. WAY ahead of its time.
By far, this is my favorite Buck Owens song. He was an amazing singer; one of country music's greatest!
