B.T.O. (Bachman-Turner Overdrive) - Jamaica Lyrics

When will these dark clouds disappear from view
When will the sun begin to shine
When will I once again be near to you
When will I know for sure you're mine

Dreaming of those Jamaican nights
Longing to hold you
Jamaica take me away
Take me away with you
Jamaica, I'm wasting away
Take me away with you
Jamaica take me away
Take me away with you
Jamaica, I'm wasting away
Take me away with you

When will these dark days disappear again
When will I finally see the light
How long must I wait
To have you here my friend
I want to be with you tonight

Dreaming of those Jamaican nights
Longing to hold you
[Repeat rest of the chorus til end]

You want to hear something weird , go listen to Rick Springfield's song Kristina . Same song , totally different lyrics .

one of my favorites from rock n roll night. a weak album compared to their classic lineup 1973-1977. jim clench on bass and splits vocal duties with c f turner. he was formerly a member of April wine.

Which Randy, Bachman or Murray? Jamaica was written by Jim Vallance, Jim wasn't trying to be anyone's clone you clown.

best non reggae song about Jamaica ever!

@rickrackk: absolutely correct; "Kristina" is a lyrical rewrite by RS. As for who influenced the original song, I hear some of "New York City" by Zwan in the structure (although arguably, he may have himself been somewhat influenced by BTO as much as Elton and the Dan.....)

    BTO is the absolute best!

Great song! Yes, Fred could have sang lead the whole album but I think since BTO had always had 2 lead singers they probably wanted to continue that way, and I think Jim Clench does have a nice voice for some of the songs. What I'm not real clear on was if Fred chose to play guitar on these 2 albums because he wanted to, or did he switch to guitar somewhat reluctantly because Jim only played bass? I think Blair did most, if not all the lead guitar for these 2 albums.

@Hope2009pc I'm a hardcore BTO fan. They're definitely one of the reasons I became a guitar player. I only wish I had half as good a voice as Fred. Have you bought the new album? There's some great stuff on there. I'm especially fond of Slave to the Rhythm, which they sang live at the halftime show for the Grey Cup (the Canadian Super Bowl). Lots of happy dancing teenage girls singing along - way, way better than our Super Bowl halftime show or Cheap Trick at the AFL game. Check it out!

    @Hope2009pc yep - you're probably right.

  12. M.... ....

    Yes he did.

BTO was a hit machine!! Everything they did was pretty awesome. This is one of my favorites from them, even though almost no one ever plays it!

I don't mind Jimmy Clench singing this, but imagine what a killer song this would have been with Fred singing lead! God love Jimmy - he's a great musician, but there's no competing with Fred's lead singing.
