B.T.O. (Bachman-Turner Overdrive) - Down To The Line Lyrics

I've made up my mind,
I've got to get out in a hurry
I've stated my case
There's no need to come on with worry

'Cause I'm a real straight shooter
And my boot heels are clean
I'll always try to do better
I don't live in no dream

I live Down To The Line

[Chorus:]
You know I made it all right (Down to the line)
Stayed up all night (Down to the line)
It's the way to live life (Down to the line)
It's the way to live love (Down to the line)

Down to the line, down to the line
Sooner or later it gets you every time
Down to the line

I found me a way
To stand up this way without cryin'
Now they asked for the key
But they're complainin' instead of just tryin'

But I'm a real straight shooter
And my boot heels are clean
I'll always try to do better
I don't live in no dream

I live down to the line

You know I made it all right (Down to the line)
Stayed up all night (Down to the line)
It's the way to live love (Down to the line)
It's the way to love life (Down to the line)

[Chorus]

    "Needs more cow bell, baby!"

  2. Ronnie Lee Dill Jr

    Classic!

  3. John Van Epps

Lived in PA at that time - drinking age 21. Used to go down to the Maryland Line Inn a lot of weekends. So we were frequently going 'Down to the Line'. Kinda a special significance for my post high-school years...

  4. Luileadolfo

I stil in disbelieve that this song was released as a single and even made the top 40 s´. Instead really good songs like "Average Man" and "Find about Love" were not considered as singles.

  5. Tiek Bane

I'm a big BTO fan, since 1975, but I can't believe this thing even made it to a B-side. Terrible.

    David Jorgensen

+Tiek Bane I know what you mean. For every great hit they put out, there was an equal and opposite track buried elsewhere on the album. Randy was a success whore - he only cared that each release contained at least one or two potential hits. Everything else was just filler so they could sell more vinyl. The first few albums were a bit better, but everything after Not Fragile was highly suspect.

  6. Jerry Carney

Had the album when it came out. the cover was also a poster, least that is what I did with mine

  7. Colin Sanders

    entered Cashbox Nov 22, 1975

I LOVE BTO and I love this song. I am so lucky my dad raised me on this :)

  11. rememberthecoop1

This song was supposed to be the first single from "Head On" but they were sued by Alice Cooper's people because the song sounded line of the tracks from "Welcome To My Nightmare" called "Escape." Funny, I love BTO and The Coop.

    TScardoa

Did not know that! ..... Escape is a cool song too...

  12. 455Transam

I'm a big BTO fan but this song is fair at best.

    kedrigenn

BTO'S "Fair" (Randy era) is better than many band's "best"

    big screen

  15. Brandon Williamson

@sakamoto09876 Try using a program that downloads torrents, then search the web for BTO torrents, either individual songs or whole albums.

  16. Brandon Williamson

Such an underrated classic from BTO. None of my friends even know who Bachman Turner Overdrive was. They were "a real straight shooter."

  17. corker56

Vincent Furnier (aka Alice Cooper) has a writing credit for this song.

    Bleak5170

That's because part of this song was basically the same as "Escape" from the Welcome To My Nightmare album. Randy had to give credit to Alice and two others.

  18. Gustavo Pedreiro Tannus

1:13 - 1:24 I CANNOT listen to this part without singing along.

  19. SuperAkebono

I never heard this song until just now, thanks for posting, this is great!

  20. Jonathan Clyde

    I've always loved this tune!
