Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road Lyrics

The screen door slams
Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays

Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again

Don't run back inside
Darling, you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore

Show a little faith there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me

You can hide 'neath your covers
And study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers
Throw roses in the rain

Waste your summer praying in vain
For a saviour to rise from these streets

Well now I'm no hero
That's understood
All the redemption I can offer girl
Is beneath this dirty hood

With a chance to make it good somehow
Hey what else can we do now
Except roll down the window
And let the wind blow back your hair?
Well the night's busting open
These two lanes will take us anywhere

We got one last chance to make it real
To trade in these wings on some wheels
Climb in back
Heaven's waiting down on the tracks

Oh-oh come take my hand
We're riding out tonight to case the promised land
Oh-oh-oh-oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road

Lying out there like a killer in the sun
Hey I know it's late we can make it if we run
Oh-oh-oh-oh Thunder Road, sit tight, take hold
Thunder Road

Well I got this guitar
And I learned how to make it talk
And my car's out back
If you're ready to take that long walk

From your front porch to my front seat
The door's open but the ride ain't free
And I know you're lonely
For words that I ain't spoken
Tonight we'll be free
All the promises'll be broken

There were ghosts in the eyes
Of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
In the skeleton frames of burned-out Chevrolets

They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
When you get to the porch they're gone
On the wind

So Mary climb in
It's a town full of losers
I'm pulling out of here to win

  35. 禿侍S

    This is MY YOUTH.

  36. Aethion

Very few voices that still record working-class struggles. Hundreds of millions of tragedies never heard or sung because sensationalism has replaced real issues we face.

  37. jj lynn

seen him play all the born to run songs in St. Louis back in 2010 love this guy!!!!!

  38. Mark& Becky Mulkey

The screen door slammed and my Becky walked across the floor so beautiful. Love you baby girl

  39. Glendenning Golf Course

    The best opening line ever.

    All that heaven will allow

Glendenning Golf Course and the best closing line ever

  40. Kyle Graham

    Amazing song...

  41. Novák Csilla

anyone here thanks to Nicky Hornby?

  42. james Scudder

They don't call him the Boss for nothing.

  43. bawanderr

Has this been speeded up just a fraction?? I seems to be so. Is The Boss hurting for $$ so much that he won't let his fans listen to an unadulterated cut? A shame.

  44. Rodrigo Oliveira

quem e do brasil e acha isso 1.000 melhor q funk!

  45. William Owsley

Brilliant! Notice there is no chorus? Just one long verse.

  46. steven pendergrast

The big man sax rip music !!!

  47. Selvaggia Toni

Overrated artist. Dokken, Kingdom Come, Keel, Giuffria... All these bands are way superior than this guy.

    Ethie Wandoong

Selvaggia Toni superior than him... Yeah okay

    Mike Walters

I thought maybe listening to these bands might help me diagnose what she is smoking so I could offer some help. But she does have germs of truth in her analysis. Keel is much better at screaming than Brucie ever was, and Giuffria repeats the same lines over and over in a way Bruce never thought about doing. All of them were far better than Bruce in growing hair. The only things missing in their music are poetry, commentary, pathos, hope, redemption, interesting story lines, acknowledgement, self=reflection and a few other things. But like Styx, "...they try, best as they can, to caaaarrry on!" Oh, wait - - they all died last centry.

    Jose Fernandez

The most stupidest comment ever made. There's many genres of music out there for everyone to enjoy. Listen to what you like, and let other people listen to what they like. You're a fucking idiot.

  48. Solid Snake_93

Bruce Springsteen o Brasil te adora!

  49. Marsha Thomson

    roll down the window

  50. Donald Sabo

    IT'S A SHAME HE'S A POLITICAL HACK

  51. rmueller66

This song has no chorus! How cool!

  52. Eric Martens

"It's a town full of losers."  Describes my town exactly.  Went to the bar on a Friday night once and this song was playing and everyone in the bar started singing along to it.  Pretty funny to hear a bunch of drunk people singing this at 1AM in a public place.  You'll find half my town at one of the two bars in my town every Friday and Saturday night

  53. Jennifer Felan

My four year old niece who has great taste in music was watching Bruce Springsteen perform this classic song from the "Born To Run" album on the Clinton Rally on TV last night and was so mesmerized when she saw him playing the guitar and singing onstage. After watching that performance she just looked up at me and said that she really wants to be a singer-songwriter and musician. I told her that she would need to practice really hard and that I have a red Stratocaster guitar I am gonna let her have as she gets older. Like I said she has great taste in music and loves Bowie, The Stones, The Beatles, The Beach Boys and now Bruce Springsteen.

    ron karges

bruce is the boss, tele yes love it

    Danny Gartner

introduce her to Queen, Meatloaf, Motley Crew

    cubeception

    r/thathappened

    Linda Hoyt

She sounds like me as a 5 yr. old. I was mesmerized by Dylan and learned how to play at 5 on a small guitar. Just some simple 3 chord songs at that age but it was the poetry: I used to cry and understood the meaning of the songs. Nurture that passion in your niece. You share something beautiful.

  54. ROBERT JOHN

AYYYY....Fonzi's drinking fav wine and loving Pittsburgh in early November and loving Bruce right now!!

  55. Gilmara silva reis

  92. Michael O'Malley

I dare that bitch, Kenny Chesney, to come and walk around Boston without security. Cuz I, like every decent person, would love to punch him in his private plane face.
