Bruce Springsteen - Badlands Lyrics
Well, lights out tonight
Trouble in the heartland
Got a head on collision
Smashin' in my guts, man
I'm caught in a cross fire
But there's one thing I know for sure, girl
I don't give a damn
For the same old played out scenes
Baby, I don't give a damn
For just the in-betweens
Honey, I want the heart, I want the soul
I want control right now
You better listen to me, baby
Try to make it real
You wake up in the night
With a fear so real
You spend your life waiting
For a moment that just don't come
Well, don't waste your time waiting
Badlands, you gotta live it everyday
Let the broken hearts stand
As the price you've gotta pay
Keep pushin' 'til it's understood
And these badlands start treating us good
Workin' in the fields
That'll get your back burned
Workin' 'neath the wheels
'Til you get your facts learned
Baby, I got my facts
Learned real good right now
You better get it straight, darlin'
Poor man wanna be rich
Rich man wanna be king
And a king ain't satisfied
'Til he rules everything
I wanna go out tonight
I wanna find out what I got
Well, I believe in the love that you gave me
I believe in the faith that can save me
I believe in the hope and I pray
That someday it may raise me
Above these
Badlands, you gotta live it everyday
Let the broken hearts stand
As the price you've gotta pay
Keep pushin' 'til it's understood
And these badlands start treating us good
For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside
That it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive
I wanna find one face that ain't looking through me
I wanna find one place
I wanna spit in the face of these
Badlands, you gotta live it everyday
Let the broken hearts stand
As the price you've gotta pay
Keep movin' 'til it's understood
And these badlands start treating us good
Whoa whoa whoa whoa badlands!
Whoa whoa whoa whoa badlands!
Whoa whoa whoa whoa badlands!
Whoa whoa whoa

My favourite song of allxxx
It ain't no sin to be glad you're alive.
The first time I heard this song, for some inexplicable reason, I didn't like it. I'd love to be able to go back and smack that girl-she wasted so many months avoiding this absolute masterpiece!
My favorite Bruce song
Very simply one of the best
This is such an undervalued song.
leuk leuker leukst
This is songwriting perfection. He is an American treasure.
I cry every time he hums in the 3rd verse
Every step of some ground that is to be held in what has a firm hold on alot of turf we so richly deserve has a plentiful mob mildly amused , having that being said , and walking gingerly uninterrupted while it's no pleasant surprise we have no other choice but to believe in some preserve our lucky stars have for good reason leave to a day that smells a bit unlucky and taking an after meal ritual for granite . The gentle but rough skillfully give way and only invite when left to a sight that shoots from angles one has no trouble in placing one incredible Hill at a time , up until they are placed in a crime that missed it's bearrings despite a sign all feel had to hit home most any day of the weak . You see where the cookie crumbles and what our honey of a buzz has tapped , you should , its the land so uninterrupted and blatantly undesturbed it kind of has the darndest issues right out in the middle of "NoWhere" and just need a little spoiling right in front of some dirty rotten motherfuckers when they can't Resist !
Holy crap this is such an amazing tune!! It brings me back to those days of Early Springsteen in my youth... WOW, music just doesn't get any better than Springsteen tunage!! (especially from those days!!) Definitely one of my top 5! (If it's even possible to narrow down a top 5 from SOOOO many superb tunes😕😵 ). Thanks for the upload a great 4-minute break from drudgery of work.

So, both this and The Cars - My Best Friend's Girl apparently recorded in February of 1978.
Question: Which one's the chicken and which is the egg?
bruce has said his lyrics are greatly exaggerated, this is strictly temporary entertainment while the song lasts. not some spiritual experience to change peoples approach to life. Correct decisions are made without emotion, using logic, rationality. never getting too low or high, bruce is bipolar, this is manic. the lyrics speak to to people who feel pain, dissatisfaction, boredom (EVERYONE). the song has the same effect on a wealthy person who has his own pain.its a narcotic, the MUSIC loads the brain w/dopamine. this is manic, delusional and many lyrics don't even make sense, when the song is over (and maybe whatever intoxicant wears off), that spirit is less than before. its nothing that should inspire any real life action. like just going and quitting your job. and some of the songs have caused ppl to quit their jobs. this is entertainment folks. calm, logical, correct thinking is the way to maximize happiness, this stuff is a temporary drug. and must I say, INCREDIBLE music. but....and read the comment as weird and depressing as it is,..you need to embrace it
has zero to do with your job or the town youre from, it has to do with the human experience which is naturally full of inevitable suffering, for everyone. you never ever reach satisfaction, its temporary. there is no "yes, i've made it". or, 'i have it all figured out'. then what? therere is no figuring it out. it keeps on going. new challenges emerge. youre constantly learning, until (if youre LUCKY) you get to be an old person. we all want to survive, but subconsciously we know we're all surviving just to be an old person, theres no great ending. a better ending would be dying young, before you wither way, in some accident, before you face the undignified act of aging. ppl want to give their life an ultimate meaning, beyond just the enjoyment we all have from living it. there simply is none. the sun will ultimately turn into a red giant, vaporizing earth in the process. its why humans created gods, many hundreds of thousands of them depending on when and where you lived on earth. and created 'souls'(just brain activity) which when ceases your dead, and its like before you were born. what was that like? best word is nothing. so humans naturally make up things with no proof, theyre stories, ideologies and large groups believe in them and tie their identities/egos to them, and while theres some good if its brings a higher moral code,, theres more risk than benefit, as people are willing to kill for it (and kill for country-another man made concept. the land is constantly shifting- the world wont even look like this in time), we made up imaginary lines on earth and called them names and some humans are so attached to them. with advancing weapon technology the combination of all these ideologies, will destroy the earth in time. yea, u wouldnt want to go to a party w me, but thats all true.
Some songs sound better live and this is one of them. I feel there is more energy in The Boss's live performances.
Bob Dylan was honored for a Nobel Prize in Literature. I wonder when Bruce will be honored with the same prize?
Ba Da Boom Boom Ba Da Boom!!

Saw Blinded By The Light last and it was incredible! Loved Springsteen before but movie reminded me songs like this have magic to them.
Here after listening to Springsteen my whole life growing up near Asbury. And after seeing Blinded by the Light! :D Wonderful film.
Great film. All the differences we have between us, and the important things are universal.
Agree about Blinded by the Light. Gave me a new appreciation for Springsteen and his music.
I dedicate this song to my longtime YouTube friend Sean Reyes, whose emotional yet empowering life story encouraged me to go out there and live life to the fullest!
I saw Blinded by the Light today and it's so good
The Italian takes front row in that face!

You don't fuck with The Boss from 74 to 84 - Shit was real, honest, and rocking
(Then he lost his mind and sense of reality... but everything before then, damn, like a shot of whiskey)

It ain't no sin for me to be glad you're alive, Mija.....
This is for everyone that hates the small town!
To hell with Bruce. Claw your way up like the rest of us. Try working.
it may be a commercial product,ie; a record, but strangely there is still a scintilla of hope in there.
fuck despair. keep kicking against it till you die. ged from rosneath.
Wow couldn't stand to wait to see him at the Fox Atlanta when this album came out! And the band opened with this song, the best concerts ever!

Badlands is Badass! Excellent tune. Top performance in the studio.
It must have been one hell of an experience to go to a Bruce Springsteen concert back in the day.
It really was (all 3 times !) Every concert -- you felt like he was playing to your neighborhood--and you! Just fantastic!
A very perfect song for right now. Rich man wanna be king.
In my point of view, one of the strongest Bruce Springsteen songs..
Badlands is Badass! Excellent tune. Top performance in the studio.
This is my dads favorite Bruce Springsteen song ❤️❤️❤️
You spend your life waiting for a moment that just don't come... well don't waste your time waiting
the workin man song bruce nailed if I hear that on the radio it get s me pumped up in the morning going to work
The drums are actually Meg White.
Freaks. Youre all freaks.
Believe it or not its Brian Wilson on backup vocals Related to Enrique Caruso.
That is a really cool picture
I used this song as an inspiration, when times were tough, Stefano, and the Boss thank you.
Like a BOSS
Ok this song hit when I was starting law school. I really took this song's message to heart and thought about what the fap was I doing becoming a lawyer. It was not what I wanted to do. Then I conveniently forgot about that for a few decades.
Rip bigman
One of Bruce's many classics. The greatest live performer of all time and second only to Dylan as a songwriter.
When I was in France, this song was my ringtone on my cell phone. So every time the phone would ring, this song would come up!
This song sure makes surviving these Badlands we live in better!
Thank you , boss.
Sound like someone you know.."rich man wannabe king "
The best song
One of the all-time greats
You know when a song is a great one! When it makes you cry!!!
I love you Turd Ferguson, thanks for all the fun and laughs over the years, a true inspiration! Much appreciated 😍😳🙋♂️☘️Jake Kilkenny, Gramercy Park nyc.🕺🏿✌🏿
Intro is stolen riff from Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood song.
government corruption
I have been to dozens of Concerts in my life and many of them were great....but if I live to a hundred years old NOTHING will beat my first Bruce concert when they turned on all the lights in Brendan Byrne Arena and the Boss came and BLASTED this song as his first encore
Bruce was never better than on this tune... I have seen him three times and each time was amazing!
from long before he sold out
firebase delta Wrong! Bruce never sold out. He’ll be authentic til his last breath.
Probably one of my all time favourite Springsteen songs
Bollklubben Häcken 💛🖤
Fuck with the image, fuck with the username on YouTube, throw your weakass shit at me all you fucking feel would be wise, I'm listening to a song
Call me a fool, but when I hear Springsteen's music I hear all the history of America
Nothing foolish there, he wrote our Bible.
You're a fool.
@mitchellkarera you're the fool and an idiot.
@Dr. killpatient you're the fool and the idiot.
What about the future of America?
Honey, I want the heart, I want the soul, I want control right now <3
Like Mozart, this is the voice of God....Astonishing.
Maybe the greatest popular song ever produced.
It ain't no sin to be glad you're alive.
I wonder how many people tricked themselves into believing it was before the Boss came through
Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce
El era su idolo de mi hermano y mi hermano para mi en paz descance era mi idolo
Nobody can do song and lyrics like this anymore. I saw Boss first time in Ullevi Götebrg in 1985.
Today is National Boss Day. Hail to the True Boss!!!!!!!😆😆😆
And in 1980 computer phones weren't tracking you........you were free....... !!!
....and listening in
My name is Southern Jameson West.........!!!
I was in NYC in 1980......walking the streets humming this song.........totally cool........!!!
Cool.........!!!
Erie, Pa
Nice to see a fellow Erie resident on a Bruce song
Spätestens zu dieser Zeit wurde man Bruce Springsteen Fan! Grüße an Koblenz!
Sorry to say this with your 700.000 likes, but the quality is terrible. I grew up all analogue, and when you play the cd on stereo it is ten times better. The voices don't sound like Springsteen, the sound is too high, and there is too much treble. It's not my phone, because I have listened to thousands of tracks on youtube with my headphones and this is the only recording I find bad in years
Sorry to say this but the original vinyl blows everything else completely out of the water.
The boss !
Thunderheart
Brilliant song! One of the Boss' best albums ever!!!!
"I believe in the Faith that could save me." "I got my facts real straight right now."
This song kicks ass. Love it.
