Bruce Hornsby - The Valley Lyrics

Sometimes I lead, sometimes I follow
This time I'll go where she wants me to go
She said maybe today, maybe tomorrow
Deep in the woods down the low valley road

While no one was lookin' on the old plantation
He took her all the way down the long valley road
They sent her away not too much later
And left him walking down the old valley road
Walk on
Walk on, walk on alone
Walk on, walk on
Walk on alone, alone

Out in the hall, they were talking in a whisper
Everybody noticed she was gone awhile
Somebody said she's gone to her sister's
Everybody knew what they were talking about

Whoa, while no one was lookin' on the old plantation
He showed her what they do down the long valley road
She came back around like nothing really happened
And left him standing on the old valley road
Walk on
Walk on, walk on alone
Walk on, walk on
Walk on, walk on, on the valley road

Standing like a stone on the old plantation
The rich old man would have never let him in
Good enough to hire, not good enough to marry
When it all happens, nobody wins
Walk on
Walk on, walk on alone
Walk on, walk on
Walk on, walk on alone, alone

Son-of-a-bitch! A great memory of 1988! Where the hell did it go?!? Feels like it was just only about 5-years ago but it's been 32 already! These great songs keep getting further and further into the past, with nothing nowadays even coming close to as good... Very scary! In the 70s and 80s you could count on new songs being good and even getting better, but not anymore. The 90s were still okay, but then a nosedive into nothingness! Will we ever see great artists again? I won't count on it in my lifetime (I'm 54).

  6. D.... W....

One of the best interactive songs ever done.. Everyone has a ball. Love it.. play it over and over. Never get bored with it either..make my own words up to it as well lol

  34. J.... K....

I just love this song and the video. Gotta Lotta gravitas.
Right around those old valley roads in the hollywood hills.
Springsteen and Johnny Rotten and Neil Young must sure be proud.
Nancy Wilson and Joan Jett too. Rock on. Walk on.
Deep in the canyons. Move along, nothing to see here.

Timeless Classic. One of the great rock pianists in the music world.Amazing piece of music.. This song brilliantly captures hope, the restlessness, dreams and aspirations of a bygone era.. Possessing a breezy, nonchalant style that belies his technical gifts, pianist Bruce Hornsby writes powerful songs from the heart that touch on several distinctly American traditions: pop, jazz, bluegrass, and '60s soul. He worked for a while as a studio player and songwriter, and had his first hit in 1986 with the stirring and philosophical "The Way It Is".

  37. m.... f....

    This song jumps!

  38. J.... N....

You ever realize that the song sounds a bit like Don Henley's "End of the Innocence?" The chordal structure is similar, too.

  39. a.... n....

The Valley Road Is A Great Song And Fantastic Wonderful Masterpiece By Bruce Hornsby And The Range.

  40. W.... ....

So weird how I got here. Watched Fire on the Mountain - then went to the Grateful Dead Wiki - saw Bruce Hornsby's name as a touring member - remember my parents listening to Bruce growing up in the 80's and 90's - this is my 3rd Bruce Hornsby video in a row this morning and the funny thing is I remember most of the words to the songs. Lol, it brings back so many memories.

  41. A.... B....

Jack Nicholson on the drums :)

  42. J.... P....

This tune is awesome! This sounds similar to the country group Restless Heart.

  43. J.... A....

hermosa canción llevado a una imaginación infinita de memoria de amor

  44. T.... J....

    The best!!!!

  45. P.... M....

  47. J.... K....

Gretzky. Skating. Canada. Walk on frozen water like this.
Walk right into Hollywood just like this. Hell's frozen over
and it's a huge skating rink.

  48. J.... K....

Keyboards. Hornsby. Walk back on alone across our land.
The old plantation. Straight back down those old hills straight
into what's now called "hollywood" Such a glam joint.

    A.... ....

    Yes u missed the 80s :*(

    A.... ....

I'm 50 yrs old now & I'm so glad that I got to experience the 80s...THE GREATEST ERA/DECADE OF MUSIC TO EVER COME AROUND IN MY OPINION.
    Especially from 1981-1985
    Much love from Mobile Alabama.

    A.... ....

    I feel you. I’m 32

    A.... ....

@Randy Miller Well, I'm an ancient 69 and, yes, the 80's had some good artists like Bruce, but the 60's was the era when music became an adult......an unbelievable time in more ways than just music.

  53. k.... w....

    What a great piano player.

  54. W.... ....

Jack Nicholson's little brother the drummer??

  57. J.... K....

Out on the open road with a '57 Maserati we put the theories
of relativity to the test. From Hollywood there's no where to go west
so we go east. Pass those cows and fence posts like they're standing still.
If the horse don't run got to carry the load personally. Right from here to Atlanta.

  58. R.... J....

Hornsby toca como um anjo!! Prazer em ouvir esse piano!!

  59. I.... ....

I loved Bruce Hornsbys hair style.

  60. J.... K....

This is Hollywood. Nearest airport's lax. Get out of there somehow
and walk the streets like I'd mean it most sincere. Sun comes up every
morning around here. Bars open at 6am and I'd like another gin and tonic.
Hollywood's been full of shit as long as I've been here.
Y'all saw what happened to Tom Petty.

  61. r.... d....

Esa cancion es bonita llega al bobo
