Browne, Jackson - Take It Easy Lyrics

Well I'm a-running down the road trying to loosen my load
I've got seven women on my mind
Four that want to own me, two that want to stone me
One says she's a friend of mine

Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand and take it easy

Well I'm a-standin' on the corner in Winslow, Arizona
With such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me

Come on baby, don't say maybe
I've got to know if your sweet love is gonna save me
We may lose and we may win
But we will never be here again
Open up I'm climbin' in to take it easy

Well I'm a-running down the road trying to loosen my load
Got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin' for a lover who won't blow my cover
She's just a little hard to find
Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Come on baby, don't say maybe
I've got to know if your sweet love is gonna save me

You know we got it easy
We oughta take it easy

Browne, Jackson Take It Easy Comments
  1. J.... C....

Is it electric guitar that carries throughout the end of the song?

  2. R.... C....

One of the best LP's ever! Love it! The 1970s produced many great musicians & singers! Cheers from Cav! *

Like this one and the eagles the same both are awsome.

  6. t.... ....

In my Eagles playlist with their version. Thanks for the upload!

  7. R.... M....

I like both versions equally, but the worst version l have heard was when Jackson performed this song backed by the Eagles soon after Glen's death at the Grammys. They all seemed shell-shocked including Jackson.

  8. R.... C....

Terrific harmonies! I once volunteered backstage as Jackson entertained folks at the rugby/soccer oval at Golden Gate Park in S.F., CA. We were honoring the memory of Rock Promoter Bill Graham. Great tune indeed! Peace & Love, Cav. *

  10. B.... O....

i never knew that Jackson recorded his version.

  11. D.... S....

Story was JB and Glen Frey wrote this song in the alley behind the Troubadour whilst toking up

  12. J.... H....

Arguably his best album.....and yes Sneaky Pete on pedal just resonates in your head when you just think of this track...

Have seen him many time and never been disappointed.

Saw him on his last tour at The Sage in Gateshead and he finished the show with Take it Easy....then gently morphing into Lady of the Well.

It was so note and sound perfect that it was just as though you were listening to the album itself.....!

  13. g.... M....

    the best version.

  14. K.... K....

To me, what makes this version superior to the more common Eagles version is the use of brushes on the snare in the chorus.

  15. a.... j....

    Love both versions.

  16. M.... N....

Beautiful job Jackson Browne love it but also love so much Randy Meisner version as well two very talented musician not to mention gorgeously handsome love and respect Maggie Los Angeles, California a devoted fan 🎶❤🎶🎵❤🎵🎼❤🎼❤❤❤

  17. N.... R....

Jackson Browne had all but the last verse wrote for Take It Easy. Jackson Browne gave the song to Glenn than Glenn wrote the last verse and finished the song. It was told on The Eagles documentary.

  18. B.... J....

Just leave it as it is....the Eagles made it best...Jackson covered it ...and it is what it what is. But it belongs high props to the Eagles

    B.... J....

To " Cover it " implies a copy....Jackson wrote it. The Eagles did a good job of covering it.

  19. Z.... ....

    um, good

  20. i.... ....

I have just learnt that this was his song. Still love the Eagles though.

  21. I.... W....

Magnificent version. After reading all the Eagle history it has become so clear to me that although Glenn Frey was talented he also downplayed the very people that gave him success. Where would the Eagles be without Hotel California ( music and lead by the the brilliant Don Felder) and Hotel Calif by Jackson Browne??? Take away these songs and it would have been very different. See what I mean? To me Don Felder runs rings around Joe Walsh and Randy Meisner was the ultimate. Just listen to Houston 1977 video and tell me Take it to the Limit and One of these nights with Felder and Meisner aren't the best magic you will ever hear

  22. R.... C....

Jackson is terrific!  I once volunteered backstage at 1 of his shows.  The guy performs as wonderfully as The Eagles!  "Gotta love that kind of music!  The Eagles ROCKED our world!  I got to see them in concert twice -- once in Oakland Stadium (The Coliseum) & once at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View.  My sweetie Kathy lived in that city.  3 cheers for this fabulous tune!  Peace & love, Cav!

  23. J.... D....

    Yee ha.....my Jackson! ❤❤❤

  24. J.... S....

Being a hillbilly from se Utah, never really did hear Jackson Browne's music much(LDS Censorship?), but I do remember reading an article of him in The Denver Post, this song's AWESOME whether its Eagles singing it or Jackson Browne! :)

  25. H.... H....

    Jackson Browne

  26. Z.... ....

    better than the other guys

  27. j.... d....

Great song , like a train rolling down the track.

  28. g.... M....

my favorite record ever. the best.

  29. B.... F....

    nice pic ROLO

  30. P.... s....

Excellent version and i think Jackson had most of the lyrics on this one just by the way it was written. Frey and Henley lived above Jackson and they learned how to write better from hearing Jackson play over and over till he got it just right. Of course in between his tea breaks.

  31. A.... B....

The most telling line is, of course 'We may lose or we may win, but we will never be here again' Enjoy the time you have , you will never be here again.

  32. A.... B....

We may lose or we may win, but we will never be here again...

  33. O.... J....

The question of whose song this 'really' is, is easily answered by listening to both versions. This version is clearly Jackson Browne singing his own song. The Eagles version is a fine cover, but still a cover, even if Glenn Frey was technically a co-writer.

    O.... J....

I heard this version a year after hearing the Eagles do it. This version, to me, is way better.

  34. r.... ....

I've grown up listening to the Eagles version, but this just makes me love the song even more. The drums are are something else!

  35. H.... H....

Frey never wrote anything, he forced his name on songs.

  36. s.... h....

Seven women is six too many to be thinking' about....unless you like misery!

    s.... h....

Not every man wants just one.

  37. E.... K....

If you know JB, this song has him written all over it. The very first time you hear JB perform it, and if you didn't KNOW he wrote it, it's like the light bulb switched on. Jackson wrote it, and Glenn wrote the last verse. I finally got my tickets to see JB next month in Calgary. Tops on my bucket list........cannot wait. ;)

  38. M.... G....

I only miss Fingers and Joe

  39. K.... S....

"Sneaky Pete" Kleinow on Pedal Steel is just plain kicking ass. He for sure had a different twist on that steel.

  40. E.... E....

eagles blow this out of the water. you people are nuts if you think this is better.

  41. O.... L....

Though both versions are fantastic I somehow prefer this one to Eagles because it is so sweet. This has more rootsy feeling. I wonder who sings harmony.

    O.... L....

I think Jackson sings his own harmony on a different track. He did that on other songs.

  42. L.... F....

One of the best; lyrics and music.

  43. J.... A....

    Is this the real egales

    J.... A....

no it's the Jackson Browne Band

  44. n.... w....

We all kick the bucket some sooner than later.

  45. L.... J....

Me encanta su voz y sus canciones.

  46. T.... A....

this version is better than the Eagles version , why? because this song belongs to him ! he is the composer!

    T.... A....

co written by JB and Glenn frey

    T.... A....

He was stuck and Glenn Frey gave crucial help. Don't be childish.

  47. t.... f....

one said she was a friend of mine......

    t.... f....

    love this version......

  48. d.... d....

This is a Jackson Browne version

    d.... d....

daniel duffy and also this is his own song . he is the composer of this great music

  49. N.... ....

An unofficial Eagle, and a legend on his own...!

    N.... ....

    AMEN BROTHER <3

  50. S.... G....

Yes they are.And I think it's having such an impact on so many of us cuz we all grew with their music and it does make you think about your own mortality.

  51. E.... K....

Everyone thinks this was written by the Eagles, when was Jackson's song. They did a good cover of it but Jackson never has gotten credit for his contribution to Rock and Roll and of the music of the 70's and 80's. He was in my opinion the Crown Prince of Classic Rock.

    E.... K....

Eddie Kearns actually Glen and Jackson lived next to each other and Glen was stuck on one line and Jackson gave it to him. He was so grateful that he shared writing credits with him. As told by Jackson Browne himself

    E.... K....

um, you have it backwards - Jackson wrote the song, Glenn added "it's a girl my lord, in a flat bed Ford, slowing down to take a look at me" - definitely Jackson's song, but they were all very close and both versions are pretty sweet

  52. K.... S....

I love Browne's singing. The Eagles certainly made it theirs and did a tremendous job of it, but I really like Jackson Browne's nuanced voice.

    K.... S....

It was originally a J.B. song. He wrote the first verse and chorus, and Glenn Frey picked up the baton and wrote the second verse to it.

    Keaton’s comment was just fine.

    K.... S....

Actually Jackson Browne wrote it !! Even Glenn Frey said he only added “the ribbon”; the package was there. He heard the song and loved it. People act like Glenn wrote it or originated it or made some massive contribution. It’s simply not true. It’s actually JB’s brainchild. You can totally tell the lyrical style is his. And the melody. Everything. Frey added one line of lyric. It was a good one but the song was already a song.

    K.... S....

Thatcher Stalinsky Jackson Browne cowrote it with Glenn Frey.

    K.... S....

seurynck Jackson Browne had already written the song! Frey added a bit to the second verse but even that was nearly done. This is JB’s baby.

    K.... S....

@Keaton Smith Besides that , didn't Jackson Browne write it or just the melody ?

  53. B.... D....

Wonderful composition and recording of Jackson Browne who composed the word and lyrics. The Eagles had the hit. But were there dirty tricks invoked? As an experienced musican I have to say Yes!.
    Yes -Glen Frey has some limited rights to be acknowledged/.Perhaps for the words of a small portion of the the Lyrics - But that is very little to the totality of the Browne work - itself;
Jackson should be given full credit for this composition with a footnote to Glenn
    FreyI That is all!.
Yet that is not how the system work: And this is how the public gets misinformed.

Give credit where it is due: Glenn Frey's Limited Contribution"
    "Well, I’m a standing on a corner
    in Winslow, Arizona,
and such a fine sight to see.
It’s a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford
slowin’ down to take a look at me.

    B.... D....

+Benjamin David that verse made the song. and in fact the Eagles did it first and better.

    B.... D....

+Benjamin David Glenn pitched in one part of that verse, and after he did Jackson insisted that he be listed as a co-writer.It was Jackson's choice, not the system's.

    B.... D....

glenns arrangement is different to...so he for sure made his...i like glenns version better

    B.... D....

Benjamin David you got it backwards!

    B.... D....

You guys have it all wrong it was Jackson Browne who wrote the one line that Glen was stuck on. Check you facts please Jackson said this in his own words. They lived next to each other and Glen was so grateful to Jackson, he gave him writing credits that he did not ask for. Geez you guys gotta turn a beautiful humble and giving story into crap!

  54. B.... D....

I was saddened by the passing of Glen Frey: Browne co-wrote the tune with the Glen Frey. Too many folks from the 70's are dying, Glenn, David Bowie, and actor Alan Rickman - all in their late 60's..
While I love the Eagle's version - I find Jackson Browne's to be equally fine if not a tad better due to the harmonies which carry on the blue grass tradition. .

    B.... D....

My son is now in his 30's, plays in a successful pop band, and he's a huge JB fan.

    B.... D....

Interest thing, j.b. wrote one line of the song by still gets credited for the whole song..

    B.... D....

Jlina A no, that's not correct, he wrote "I'm standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona" and didn't know where to go from there, and Glenn lived next door in London and he came over and showed him and Glenn finished writing the song... That's how the song came about..

    B.... D....

madbug1965 the whole song my the line about Winslow Arizona was Glen Fry, brown is ok, but NO way near as good of a song writer as fry..

    B.... D....

    Benjamin David 0

  55. M.... ....

Could Jackson Browne replace Glenn Frey in the Eagles?? I think so. What do others feel. It will never happen but consider the possibility.

    M.... ....

Marcus Henley rather the band die with Frey. simple truth.

    M.... ....

Not replace,  Glenn Frey was great but Jackson Browne would be just fine.... JG

    M.... ....

not replace, Glenn Frey was great, but Jackson Browne would due just fine

    M.... ....

Well here's the thing, Browne did write this song, but couldn't come up with an end for it (notice how this song blends in to lady of the well on the everyman album?) So he gave it to Glenn Frye to come up with the ending....in truth, these guys really complimented each other, rather than replaced each other. Love em both though

    M.... ....

Deacon Frey has replaced his dad, at least for now.

  56. 1.... ....

RIP Glenn Frey love the eagles :(

    1.... ....

+12qasdz Jackson Browne did not RIP. He co-wrote the song with Glenn Frey!

  57. E.... H....

My favorite version and excellent blend into Our Lady of the Well....

    E.... H....

    +Ed Halfen No Question.

    E.... H....

Sneaky Pete Kleinow did a fabulous job on the pedal steel

  58. F.... t....

its the artist and not the producer that makes the music.

  59. B.... ....

Glen called it a "package without the ribbons" as the song was nearly complete and has been very humble about the origin of the song.

  60. N.... v....

Sounds like Glenn Frey´s voice... ?

  61. M.... ....

The Eagles version is better. This is missing Don Felder's guitar magic. This solo is completely different and nothing like Felder's solo.

    M.... ....

    +Johnny Matthew PLEASE!!!!

    M.... ....

    @atosthewarrior
I know....I'm saying the Eagles made this a hit. This version would have never been a hit.

    M.... ....

+Johnny Matthew Is the secret in the songwriter or the musicians?

Roll over Beethoven & tell Tchaikovsky the news...... Twist & Shout . . . . Dr. Robert,  Song Title                Lead vocal

    .Mustang SALLY, you better slow your Mustang down . . . . . .

    M.... ....

+Johnny Matthew And the Eagles version lacks Sneaky Pete on the pedal steel. The guy was a genius, Both versions are amazing but I find Jackson's a bit more heartfelt

    M.... ....

+atosthewarrior. Frey finished the song and put it out first, there would not be this version if not for the Eagles

  62. D.... F....

Providence 1974 (75?) Jackson Browne & Linda Ronstadt took the roof off
great poets and artists of our time

    D.... F....

David Francazio yes they did......out the park!!!!!

  63. N.... V....

The difference shows the power of the producer, often more important than the writer and musicians of songs.

  64. T.... ....

Jackson wrote this track himself Frey only added a few lyric lines

    T.... ....

+TPOGgroove why does no one know that????

    T.... ....

+JilBrowne Perhaps we'll never know the true story on that one now. JB will just say they wrote it & both respective groups recorded it. The rest is lore of the music muses, eh?

    T.... ....

+TPOGgroove yes, and Dylan wrote All Along The Watchtower, but who owns it ? From a musical perspective, Hendrix, hands down. Similar with take it easy...although I do like JB's version myself.

    T.... ....

Dylan's version was very good, but very different from Hendrix's. I'm glad both versions were recorded. Now, Aretha Franklin owns Otis Redding's Respect without a doubt. I believe he even said that, but he did own the composer's rights, and made lots of money because of her version.

    T.... ....

Glenn Frey contributed the line "It's a girl, my lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowing down to take (have) a look at me". That was his contribution, period. Then of course the Egos released it as their first single and the rest is history. This version is SO much better

  65. e.... i....

    I miss Sneaky Pete.

    e.... i....

    That's only your opinion.

  66. e.... i....

Way better version than that of the Eagles.

    e.... i....

uhm Jackson browne started it Glenn finished it with him...

    e.... i....

    eight inches thats debatable

    e.... i....

I like both but the banjo on the Eagles version is great...

    e.... i....

@eight inches - Eight inches of shjt for brains to make that opening statement. What a fk'n moron.

    e.... i....

    I agree with you, eightinches.

  67. j.... ....

I'm a long time fan of Jackson B..just found out that he was part co-wrtier w/ Glenn Frey, so I had to hear the JB version of Take It Easy.  HIs music brings me back-hey, 40 years ago. Great music always, in those days...J.

    j.... ....

joannie1q2w3e THIS and FLEETWOOD MAC AND MY LADY CAN'T GET NO BETTER. TAKE CARE.

  68. D.... G....

I bought this album when new, so this was the version I prefer. I heard it quite awhile before I heard the Eagles version. I have that album also. You can tell JB and the Eagles used to hang out. The influence on their albums are amazing.

    D.... G....

+Drew G Browne produced Desperado. He made them.

  69. B.... N....

    great musique

  70. S.... H....

I love Jackson Browne!  I am very sad his concert ticket prices start at $85 :(

    S.... H....

    I saw him in 1980, probably paid $10. :)

    S.... H....

Me too. Still sad about not attending per ticket prices.

    S.... H....

    +Sandra Holt That's nothing...you can pay $1500 to see the Stones...and that's not front row...those tix start at $5,000

  71. M.... E....

Sneaky Pete (pedal steel) was a member of the original Flying Burrito Bros. along with Gram Parson and Bernie Leadon (later of the Eagles), playing that "Cosmic American Music" which was a mixture of American country-western, folk, blues, soul, R 'n B, and rock & roll. I love this version of Take It Easy. Two great tracks by both the writers, Browne & Glen Frey (Eagles).

    M.... E....

    That 60's Laurel Canyon sound!

    M.... E....

Marvina Erickson makes the song it does!!

  72. L.... J....

Dear Rolossining, Amazing! Shalom from Jerusalem, ISRAEL, Lowell

  73. C.... p....

A great song.... Jackson Browne was brilliant, but Sneaky Pete on steel was the definitive part of the song for me. RIP Pete.

  74. f.... r....

    take it easy
    and youll find your woman

  75. M.... H....

    Cool version

  76. R.... I....

Frey onl finished one verse, as I heard it.  I've always thought that The Eagles were too bland.  Kind of like Bela Fleck's version of Bluegrass is bland.

  77. a.... ....

6 people can't take it easy, apparently! :) I love Jackson Browne. Reminds me of my mom every time! My parents went to a show many years ago and had backstage passes;my mom received a kiss on the cheek from Mr. Browne that night!

  78. F.... T....

"the eagles were great but jackson browne was great with take it easy also".

  79. M.... P....

    good tune

  80. J.... M....

this music is called country western. not alabama in bred shit

  81. J.... M....

    no 4 people cant

  82. J.... M....

3 people cant take it easy

    J.... M....

Unfortunately, will always have idiots who have trouble positioning the mouse!

    J.... M....

@ptkjryan , and some people only have an ear for the original studio version that was played to death on AM radio.

  83. K.... B....

    Been there, done that!

  84. a.... i....

I've always believed that this was a far better version than that of the Eagles.

  85. A.... ....

I don't care if it's Jackson Browne or The Eagles I just love this song. Period.

  86. A.... R....

no, there are hundreds of song titles that share names but are different songs. Stand by Me by Ben E. King, Train in Vain (a/b*/k/a Stand By Me) by the Clash two totally different songs. *better

  87. d.... ....

im gonna take it easy tonight

  88. N.... ....

You know, both versions are great, but I think I prefer Jackson's :) RIP Pete

  89. t.... ....

I wrote a song with the same name but it is not a cover of this or the eagles... is that illegal? trad sparvier take it easy is my song...bout my brother who died.

  90. b.... ....

He wrote it, he can sing it.

  91. d.... s....

Love the way Jackson Browne gets those Everly Brothers blue grass harmonies into the "come on baby....." kick near the end of the song.

  92. S.... F....

But that could cause a tear in the space-time fabric of the universe!
Isn't it written that you can only like one version of a thing, and that you must hate all others with every fibre of your being?
Pretty sure I read that somewhere.

  93. R.... L....

    thanks a favorite

  94. c.... ....

    Great version!
    Never heard of this before.

  95. b.... ....

    唱的真棒!~百聽不厭。

  96. R.... R....

joe walsh had nothing to do with the eagles version, lol

  97. c.... ....

This is the better version then the Eagles take on it, in my opinion, Jackson did great job here, vocals, guitar work, just great song of Jackson Browne.

  98. H.... D....

I have just shared this on FB and said 'whichever version I'm listening to is my favourite' and it's true, lol! There is no way you could decide, I think that it's just that the Eagles' version is better known, therefore people tend to lean that way... People other than me, that is, lol! :D
