James Brown brought me here. I'm supposed to be getting dressed to go somewhere and I keep pulling up songs.

This song always reminded me of my brother in Law Pete,l had just met him way back in 66 and he saw that My husband his brother had a big collection of good albums.So he ask me do have James Browns Bewildered in all those albums,and l said yes l do.He stayed with us for about a month and damm near wore the album out.Then he tells me about this girl and he thinks of her every time he here’s it.And he told me her name was Peggie and how she just lived the next town over,which was about 4/5minutes from our home.So behind his back l call my girlfriend Peggie.l ask her if her old boyfriend was Pete and she said yah how did l no that.l tell her he’s been living here for close to a month.So long story short.l told her to set Pete up and have him and his girlfriend Peggie to come over.lt was too funny ,she walked threw the door and we both acted surprised,and started laughing,what was even better was my husband had taken a shower and get dressed to go out to dinner with his brothers girlfriend and his brother.He walk in the living room and said Your not the Peggie he’s been talking about are you and of corse everyone new by now.We all laugh it was truly funny.And every time l hear James Brown Sing Bewildered l think of that night💞

+valerie dunn James Brown was 3 years old when this song was written, 1936. Recorded in 1938 by Tommy Dorsey. Mildred Bailey did a version around the same time. Amos Milburn did a version around 1954. There was a lot of good song writing from that period. Always interesting to see how following artists interpreted the songs. Check those recordings out.

JB did a lot of old standards as album filler. Of course he had a big hit with "Prisoner of Love" which Wikipedia tells us was originally done by Russ Columbo in 1931. So I checked it out on YouTube. I couldn't make it all the way through. Then I watched the Billy Eckstine version. That must be where James got it.
