Bright Eyes - When The Curious Girl Realizes She Is Under Glass Again Lyrics

Tomorrow when I wake up I'm finding my brother
And making him take me back down to the water.
That lake where we sailed and we laughed with our father.
I will not desert him. I will not desert him.
No matter how I may wish for a coffin so clean
Or these trees to undress all their leaves onto me.
I put my face in the dirt and then finally I see
The sky that has been avoiding me.
I started this letter I'm gonna send it to Ruba.
It will be blessed by her eyes on the gulf coast of Florida.
With her feet in the sand and one hand on her swimsuit,
She will recite the prayer of my pen.
Saying, ...time take us forward. Relief from this longing,
They can land that plane on my heart I don't care
Just give me November, the warmth of a whisper
In the freezing darkness of my room.
But no matter what I would do in attempt to replace.
All these pills that I take trying to balance my brain.
I've seen the curious girl with that look on her face.
So surprised she stares out from her display case.

Tomorrow when I wake up I'm finding my brother
And making him take me back down to the water.

I use to listen to this so much in the mid 2000s. Forgot the name of it..looked for it for the past 7 years. Today I found it. Thank you for uploading.

  10. T.... ....

    Is he okay

    T.... ....

He's a lot happier and healthier now, buuuut he also isn't making as good of music (in my opinion, at least).

  12. J.... M....

    this looks like blues 101

    J.... M....

    Love that part.

  13. L.... T....

Giving voice to the demons of people everywhere before it was cool; Conor Oberst

    L.... T....

+Luke Tiffany That's more for the award for Cohen or Dylan

    L.... T....

MrHockey000 Both are greats but Conner is so young, when this happened, he was probably in the dark, at least about Leonard Cohen. I think this is genuine young frustration that actually sounds good.

    L.... T....

Seriously he is the last of all the true artists. All his work is a swan song to all the music of the past

  14. S.... E....

everything about this song is so goddamn perfect

  15. J.... D....

"No matter how I may wish for a coffin so clean" ah, goose bumps!

  16. M.... F....

    honestly beautiful.

Anyone know who the curious girl is? I like to think that Conor meant her to be a mannequin and this mannequin, something not even living, can look out onto the world and be surprised by how much it's gone to shit while some humans are content with it and the last 4 lines basically say it all. The last two being self-explanitory, the first two lines basically say that Conor's perspective on life won't ever change; it's always shit, then he notices that the mannequin sees it too.

I know this is an old comment so you probably aren't even reading this, but just in case you are I wanted to let you know that I really love your perspective on the story behind the curious girl in the display case!! What a great & well thought out theory!! I've absolutely LOVED Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst since I was 15 (I'm 33 now), and this was definitely 1 of my top 3 favorite songs by them for years... I was obsessed with it & would listen to it constantly, on repeat for the longest time haha! But I never understood the whole "curious girl" behind glass thing... I would always try & think of different possibilities of what it might have meant, but I could never figure it out for the life of me! I remember having 1 or 2 ideas that kindaaa made just a little bit of sense to me at the time, but not really...and nothing that was as good as yours. Thanks for sharing, I think you might be right! It makes sooo much sense now! 😀😀 ❤💚❤💚❤

I put my faith in the dirt and then finally I see
The sky that has been avoiding me

  19. i.... ....

Definitely one of my favorite Bright Eyes songs.
I love the piano part at 0:58 even though I think it just goes up and down the scale note by note.
I also love the footsteps and muffled TV set.
It's amazing how something so seemingly simple can have so much meaning.

  20. h.... ....

YES!!!! you get it. but happiness is out there man. may you find it

  21. S.... T....

yes, depressing music. but f**king original and cool. fevers and mirrors and lifted i find very special.

  22. I.... P....

    Amazing, depressing hobby

"We have a song called “When the Curious Girl Realizes She’s Under Glass,” that I wanted to sound like someone eavesdropping on their neighbor, like, in the next-door apartment. So the whole song is recorded so that it sounds weird and muffled. You can hear the neighbor walking around, and turning on the TV and looking for a station. Anyone who didn’t know the idea would probably think it was the most annoying song ever, but, for me, it captured my idea perfectly."

I can't understand how more, many more, people haven't found this music

  27. S.... P....

    i want to be ruba.

  28. Y.... ....

@deebarnes77 this was the first one I ever bought!

  29. R.... I....

    @ipukezombies

    this song sounds lively.

reminds me of a country waltz.

it's filled with an almost unappeasable sadness, rage, nostalgia, and a longing for a better tomorrow.

    I love Conor's work.

  30. B.... ....

Is this a Little Prince reference?

  31. I.... ....

I listen to this song obsessively

  32. w.... ....

@deebarnes77 i dont know about it being the best album but there are a few recent albums thats are more solid than this one. tat doesnt mean that this isnt a good album though
