Bright Eyes - Entry Way Song Lyrics

Last saturday I stood in your entry way
That place where we used to wait
For cars to carry us away
Like once in this storm, they drove me and justin home
The music was just being born
It was all I was longing for

Now im on a plane
Off singin my songs again, oh please dont think ill of it
Cause its the reason I exists
But you, youre the crutch of a cripple
You're the calm of a conscience
You're the peace that I have found
When all these voices talk too loud you are quietly reassuring me
With the hands of a healer
And the tongue of a teacher
Its your voice that I have known
To be the first one on the phone
Yeah, you ran all the lights to the hospital

So don't you say to me
That life's a trap
The future is nothing but a tragedy
'Cos I'll be out of that window
Yeah, I'll start wishing to die again
Just say we're not walking backwards, kid
And show me to the door
And I'll walk behind
Out into the hot sunlight
Where the world's very much alive
Even when I close my eyes

Well, should I admit
That my promise is counterfeit
That I'm careless and childish
And that's all I can hope to be
And would you concede
That I think only of myself
I refuse everybody's help
Who has been reaching out for me
Well, you reach with the soul of a sailor
And the swing of a miner
You have cleared the rock away
Leaving gold there in its place
And it is more than anyone could claim
Oh, with the sense of a banker
And with the touch of a tailor
You saved this life for me
And you have sown it to beauty
And I am grateful now and I will always be

So would you sing with me
The song is all I know
Some truths are told now only in a melody
So I've been writing a new one
Yeah, I've been taking my time with it
It's gonna be so perfect
It's gonna hold all of us inside of it
You will see
If you just add your harmony
I think it would be complete
And be worthy of singing
Becomes a symphony

Yeah, you're the cool of the water
You're the start of the summer
Keep me still like a anchor
In a storm you're the cellar
When I'm heavy with worry make me light as a feather
When I'm deafened by anger you're the song I remember
With the grace of a dancer and the strength of a pillar
When I'm starving to suffer you just fill me with laughter
You're a poet
And a saint
You are the only one I choose to imitate
Oh, like the love of a father through the eye of a camera
It's this picture I have seen
We're on a sloping hill of green
And you are walking there beside me

drunk and alone at 4am when bright eyes is most relatable.

you saved this life for me
and you have sown it to beauty, and i am grateful now and i will always be (thanks for everything you've done for me. for listening to me, for being there for me, for letting me be part of your life. Thanks for that call, it was one of the happiest moments of my life. I miss you like hell)

  3. Suh Hee Jun

im 25 years old and bright eyes has been my favorite band since i was 12. i thought i would never get the chance to hear a bright eyes song for the first time again in my life (after people's key dropped when i was 17)-- but somehow, this song escaped me. i was doing pretty badly today; trauma and melancholy were weighing very heavily on me. i stumbled upon this and am filled with joy with a pleasure i thought i would never experience again: hearing a bright eyes song for the first time. i feel so much lighter. thank you.

The only way to really listen to bright eyes is alone

Kung Fu Jiu Jitsu Flip Trick

    You mean drunk and alone.

    Jeff Langenberg

Triangl3D Printing you speak the truth. I like being alone and to travel the world with my thoughts but I'm told that is detrimental to my socal life :/

    David Klausa

Yes, for the first many times. Then you share your good taste with a new friend and can both sing along, it's magic.

    Traveling Soul

This comment is deeper than the Pacific Ocean ...*Damn*
I know it's a simple statement..but I'm a little buzzed, and your comment spoke to me beyond the physical, *and into a spiritual level*

  24. Gary Lindsay

Conor - We love your music but we now understand Globalism (and the hypocrisy of all celebrities). It is about de-industrialising First world countries so Corporations can pay $3/hr in Indonesia instead of employing Nebraskan's $30/hr. We know you have to play the game (like Bob Dylan) otherwise you die at 27.
Give the politics a rest. Agenda 21 is next. No one wants that. We know you know. Loved your music forever but hypocrisy sucks.

    Jeff Langenberg

I kinda feel like anything past 27 kills the soul.. been there and done that. but he does keep on which I'm glad for. just curious are you also from Nebraska?

    Annie Spitz

Jesus, get old and vote. And then when you realize that is bullshit, run for office, grow your own food, get your neighborhood on independent community owned power and internet service, and leave imperfect folk musicians alone. You will be too busy I promise. If you are so perfect and free of hypocrisy, show others how to live so well. And I am not even Christian but they have a good saying; "let he who is without sin cast the first stone." This music is a gift to many of us. So is Bob Dylans. Those of us that stay alive have a harder time being idealistic and full of the glorious energy of youth. But we have more time to change the world in subtle way that add up in the boring interest accounts of reality. One of the best men on youtube is Joel Salatin. Get some land and learn how to make food happen. Then feed the hungry and teach them how to feed themselves. And as you do all this, don't forget that you don't have to be perfect to make music and keep playing those chords.

  25. glen gayy

Why is Connor wearing Velcro sneakers?

  26. Adam Runk

I listen to this at least 10 times a day

    Elysia

i hope so.. i really do

    Sam Verduzco

Nope... I love Conor but my old man is the only man I choose to imitate

  31. Hannah Smith

    It's perfect.

  32. darkened93

DAMN. i am overwhelmed by this......

  33. Daniel Morel

that is such is fucking great song. I'm so happy Bright Eyes is so underrated that I can enjoy them all to my self.

    lucisays

Daniel Morel you're happy they're underrated because it makes you feel special?

    Daniel Morel

Yes @lucisays, You're exactly right. I love meeting 1 out of 300 ppl that i meet that knows who Bright Eyes are/is.

  34. Beaverhead100

This song sounds like it was recorded in his basement, but I kind of like that.

    Chad Bryans

It was actually recorded in a hotel bathroom!

    Cornway Titty

How do you know this information?

    Carl Strunz

It's written on the lyric sheet of the Noise Floor LP

  35. Emily E

I'll be out of that window, I'll start wishing to die again... Just say we're not walking backwards, kid.

  36. Gary Lindsay

I love Bob Dylan, I have all his albums from the 60's and 70's, and they are great. The same for Leonard Cohen, who at his best is just so beautiful. I think Conor Oberst dances at the same level, and may be better than both of the great masters.

    Kenneth Fiend

Gary Lindsay I get yr point but Dylan....? Really?

    Kenneth Fiend

    Better???

    Kenneth Fiend

    Oh, I adore Conor...

    MrPernell27

Not better but given another 15 years he certainly could be. I've been lucky enough to see Dylan 52( and i have every album and bootleg) times, Cohen 3 times and Connor Oberst 9 times. He is by far a better performer and musician than both of them.

    Arie Daze

    Same thought

  37. sop hie

this is one of my favorite songs by him and i can't exactly place why that is but there's just something so lovely about it

  47. TimothyBIinks

Anyone ever read the description box?

  48. GrantGreen791

Jeez, I forgot about that...sorry you had to see it.

  49. shootmewithawatergun

please don't do anything reckless. just think of the lovely things in good light. don't regret, and don't do anything you'll regret. beauty is everywhere, it will come, it will pass, and new forms of it will come across. i probably sound really cheesy, but just don't be ignorant or reckless. conor's music should help you heal and not feel so alone.

  50. Ca Punx

NOTE that in fact, conor oberst has touched an electric guitar before.

  51. licky

    i can see your halo

    Chelsea Galloway

    noodraider same

  54. tintinnabulationnnn

i don't mean to argue, but i think this is about his dad -- or at least, i interpret it as much. everyone is right to their own opinion; albeit, whenever i think of my own father, i think of this one song.
one could argue his dad is his higher power. however, i think it's best to leave this as the perfect "father's day" song.
as before, not trying to fight. always glad to see different viewpoints. without different opinions, life would be boring.

    Sam Verduzco

He sang this song on Father’s Day and before he sang it he said this song is about his father.

  55. hgielarx0x
