I listened to this for the very first time sometime in the winter of 2012. I remember it well because as I was listening to the song i had a sudden mystical experience. My mind cleared and I felt I was a Consciousness that went deeper than my body, deeper than my mind. In that stillness of the mind I could watch my thoughts drifting by like clouds on the background of an eternally blue sky. At some point I felt the gap between my thoughts and the still Consciousness was getting narrower, and I was about to lose that state. It suddenly occurred to me that it was I who had chosen that, that I had willingly agreed (at some time that I could not quite remember) to forget that I was the eternal "I AM"... And that everything, including losing the higher consciousness state, was as it should be. With this thought came laughter because of some understanding of the irony of the Game of Life. Thank you Eno, for giving us good music conducive to such states!

Yes I read that he had processed his voice to be an octave higher. I got used to it long ago - it's great!

It's actually the gender-changing function on a Digitech Pro Vocalist, which creates a vocoder-like effect.

It is not for everyone. Understood. I love it though.

It sounds like he is having to force the air out of his lungs to make sounds. Not painful, but breathlessly difficult. Whenever I hear it, I just want to keep taking in big gulps of air.

Roger Bunch i heard that also and decided to scroll the comments to see if i was also imagining it. Both artists were on a compilation cd years back. that cd was how i first heard Biosphere.

It's not on the original recording. I don't know where it's come from on this YouTube version. It works from a harmonic standpoint, but not in the context of this song, with its wistful major key harmony.

At the time Brian Eno wasn't thinking about releasing even an album. about a year and a half later he released änother day on earth" featuring this track. The whole album is really good, but i think this one is the best
