Brenda Lee - Tragedy Lyrics

When it storms gone the sun run the stars my dark has come
You've gone from me what a oh oh tragedy
Oh come back have me here hold me love be sincere
You've gone from me what a oh oh tragedy
Like smoke from a cloud of love what oh oh
Our dreams have all gone above what ah oh oh
Kiss by the stove all that's left is the dark below
You've gone from me what a oh oh tragedy what a oh oh tragedy

Wow, 2017 and I here this for the first time. I am so use to listening to the Fleetwoods version that I never Brenda Lee did a version. Good job Brenda !!!!

  9. k.... ....

Great song and she did a wonderful job. The highest Billboard version of Tragedy was by Thomas Wayne (Perkins) and the Delons Recorded by Fernwood in 1958 and hit #5 in 1959 its release year. Check it out with guitar only no strings or other instruments. A great song all along!!

    k.... ....

Thomas Wayne (Perkins) died young at 31 in a car accident. His brother was Johnny Cash's guitarist, Luther Perkins. Luther also died tragically from a house fire set by his own cigarette. He was 40 years old.

    k.... ....

Oh what a great song and artist!

    k.... ....

Sorry...a little too choked up right now...my all-time favorite song...by Thomas Wayne...Brenda...the Fleetwoods...Brian Hyland...and the instrumental version by the late Danny Gatton from his "Cruisin' Deuces" album...whatever your favorite version is...please...treasure it...the Tunesmith...

A few comments from guys on this post about what the song means to them when Brenda sings it, and I feel the same. Looking back, there were many great times but the ones that hurt still hurt , especially , are lost loves and regret. Part of life but there is nothing to prepare you for it when it happens to you.

  18. R.... D....

Thank you brenda lee ..Initally I thought you were a chinese because the " lee ' is a chinese common surname. As I grow older many singers voice has brought joy to me.. Brenda Lee is certainly among the list of my favorites..

  44. r.... ....

I recall my grandfather listening to her; while we sat on the pourch, along with others, but he did love her voice, he said she was young when she began her carear other then that, all i know is he loved her voice, and as he passed away 17 years ago, I choose her to honor him, Your lucky to have a relitive with such greatness ....

  47. 8.... ....

A monumental talent that ranks above all others. Undoubtedly she was mismanaged. There is not a song that she cannot make sound beautiful. Amazing and she "is" beautiful inside and out.

  49. L.... C....

I have loved her for most of my life. for her amazingly darling loud voice

  50. d.... ....

It's nice having different "Singers" singing the same song. It puts different feelings, emotions on the Song. Brenda takes this one home, as do the "Fleetwoods".

  51. M.... B....

What a fantastic song and who cares if the Fleetwoods did it or whoever. Brenda pulls this off, makes one want to cry because she makes you believe she is hurting. Great performers make it so believable and that's why we live their songs. Why they become our songs.

  52. s.... b....

@PVcat1 BEAUTIFUL VOICE/ THIS GIRL CAN SING.

Brenda is a relative of mine. We have roots in a little town called Lithonia, Ga and one of my earliest childhood memories is of her singing at my Grandfathers funeral around 1958 or 59. She came from a great old timey family, they were country and not well educated but she was just made to sing. I have truly enjoyed being able to listen to her early recordings and can close my eyes and hear her voice..and see my Dad still sitting listening to her with tears in his eyes. He was in awe of her.

  55. d.... ....

    Brenda=Beautiful Voice!

@morenodelaorilla She is stil alive yet, yes !!!.- She lives in our hearth for ever too, She is very importan for me yet !

  64. b.... ....

@skipper8257 I agree... I was 18 yrs old when Fleetwoods version came out in spring of 1961. Within a year I was to lose my first love and really the love of my life. So I know the feelings this song stirs and Brenda Lee does Tragedy total justice. It is done the same way as Fleetwoods and really you cldn't do it any differently. It's perfect, as is Brenda.

  65. D.... M....

@Selofisido She is indeed alive and well and continues to perform when she likes. She is a veteran member and performer at The Grand Old Opry of Nashville, Tenn., where she resides. I am quite gratified to read the interest in her here since she has always been a favorite of mine. She was once a resident and local performer in my home town of Augusta, Ga., and I have always been proud of her celebrity and wonderully unique voice.

  66. D.... G....

great job, great pics how did you find 7 thumbs that couldn't get it up? that is so ????? thanks again for some great tunes and vues. jg

  67. D.... D....

I sure did'nt know she had passed. Her songs have been with me all my life. My first girl friend was named Brenda. Carried them both with me when I was in Viet Nam.

  68. v.... ....

My God... please bring her back from the past to rekindle this world of music. What will we do without the immortal Brenda Lee? Folks, listen to her renditions of 'Let it be me', and 'Will you still love me tomorrow?:nothing can compare!

  69. b.... ....

@skipper8257 I agree with you completely... I remember this well... early spring 1962 and I had lost the love of my life to anothr (I was 19 but to this day he's in my heart and I'm 68 just retired). Brenda does it just as well (tho I admit don't need the whoa oh uh ohs, must my opinion.

  70. p.... ....

ELLA ES EL ICONO DE LA EPOCA DEL ROCK AND ROLL NINGUNA COMO ELLA SHE IS MY GIRLFRIEND KISSES

  71. R.... A....

I love Brenda's voice. For a litle package, she can sure deliver. I've been listening to her songs since 1957. Her music opens a treasure trove of memories--sweet and sad. Love you, Brenda.

  72. R.... A....

  75. R.... P....

@morenodelaorilla You probably know the answer, but Brenda is still alive. She was born in early 40's.

  76. H.... H....

Here's "little miss dynamite" doing a song originally recorded by the Fleetwods and Thomas Wayne..I think she made the best version...beautiful song..you know I never appreciated her singing back in the day..that's a shame

  77. A.... G....

Real name was Brenda Mae Tarpley

  78. D.... F....

Met and interviewed Brenda in 66 when I was in radio...we are the same age...she is a lady and great singer

  79. E.... B....

Wow, I had forgotten what a wonderful song this was - so filled with nuance and emotion and not at all typical of many of her better-known "more accessible" tunes, but this one is a true classic, rendered so totally true to the lyrics. She was and still is an icon, a vocal artist who could paint moods inside a pop song. Thanks for posting this beautiful piece...

  80. M.... J....

It's hard to believe this song never became a hit by Brenda. I guess because the Fleetwoods had such a hit with it, her producers decided not to push it as a single. To my way of thinking, this is the most moving song she ever recorded.

  81. E.... R....

brenda lee..... no muchos saben quien es pero fue y seguira siendo simplemente exepcional...

  82. B.... G....

    Great lady
    great song
    great performer

  83. m.... ....

Little Miss Dynamite! can still sing her heart out! Love the posting, Thanks!

  84. B.... ....

best female voice of all times ..elvis best male voice

  85. e.... h....

I have to listen to this song over and over again....it is so beautiful though sad. The other great version is by Brian Hyland. Enjoy while you can...!!! It's a TRAJEDY that music like this isn't made or appreciated by the young people today. They're robbing themselves and don't even know it. When they get older, what music will they remember....? OUR music probably...!!!

  86. i.... ....

It's a corny song, but I love it! Brenda really nails it!

  87. S.... ....

Thomas Wayne...The Fleetwoods...Paul McCartney better? ROFL....one other person here said it for me....bullshit.

  88. m.... ....

me encanta este tema pues es muy romantici

  89. p.... m....

the Fleetwoods version is nice,in a cliff richard sort of way ,but Brenda is able to convey such emotion in her songs,as good as any body has done with popular music, and the arrangement is superb

  90. j.... ....

Yes, and the Country Music Hall of Fame too, Nobody else but Brenda Lee attained such a lofty position in the music industry.

  91. j.... c....

No other version but the Fleetwoods does this justice.

  92. s.... ....

A beautiful song done great justice by little Miss Dynamite!

  93. G.... H....

What a loss? My litle ball-of-fire. I cant get enough... I miss her so much..

  96. D.... H....

...brenda lee was the top pop female vocalist when she recorded this....!

  97. j.... c....

lol You nailed it. This is the first time I ve heard this version of Tradegy by Brenda. Brought tears to my eye. I too was about 13 in her heyday. And just like you had a hell of a crush on her. I guess all of us guys did. It s realluy great that she became the woman, wife, mother and greandmother she did. I m also from Augusta, Ga. where Brenda spent childhood years. And I guess I m the only person that didn t know her. lol

  98. S.... ....

First time I've heard this song. Very nicely sung by Brenda.
