Brenda Lee - Coming On Strong Lyrics

Comin' on strong, comin' on strong.
I can feel the heartaches
Comin' on strong.
I can feel the teardrops, the pain, and the sorrow
Ever since you've been gone, they' been
Comin' on strong.

Pain, come on in, hello sorrow,
I see you're back again.
Teardrops, glad you dropped by,
'Cause you can help drown my pride.

And since you're here, time seems just fine,
To let you know that you're gonna be with me
'Til I lose my mind,
But you've been gone,
Much too long and I can feel the heartaches,
Comin' on strong.

Only thing you left me, was misery for company,
And memories of a love gone wrong, that keep
Comin' on strong. Comin' on strong
Comin' on strong. Comin' on strong
Comin' on strong. Comin' on strong

Radar Love brought me here (or should it be "hear?"). For 46 years, ever since Radar Love came out, I 've misinterpreted the lyrics. The driver in the song is listening to the radio and being on the highway, stations sometimes fade in and out depending on distance to the radio tower, weather conditions, strength of the broadcast, etc. and so I thought that coming on strong was not the name of the song but the reception strength of the radio signal while one of Brenda Lee's songs was playing. Not until I actually looked up the lyrics and saw that "Coming on Strong" was in parentheses that I was enlightened to the fact that it was a song title. (I had never heard "Coming on Strong" before.)
I'm 65 years old, how many other things have I misinterpreted in my life? I've always thought I had a strong grasp of reality but apparently life can be tricky.

That trumpet, what a song , 1967, fast cars, late night eating grilled cheese and drinking chocolate milk among other things!!!

  22. G.... ....

And the news man played his same song.
Oh, one more radar lover gone.

  23. K.... ....

When you have been driving an automobile for several hours into the night to the point that your hands are now perspiring onto the steering wheel in anticipation of meeting with your lover, with whom you appear to have such a strong connection that you both, essentially, have developed a sixth sense making you capable of sensing each other's emotions and sending messages to each other through non-physical, non-electronic means.

  24. T.... T....

They should use a photo of her wearing a Golden Earring.

The other day I heard a great song, "Radar Love", in a commercial. Now with a desire to listen to the whole song, I went to You Tube where I looked it up, along with the lyrics. I was a young kid the first time I heard it play on the radio (about 7-8 yrs. old), and reading the lyrics for the first time, I realized the line "...Brenda Lee's "coming on strong" is a reference to a song and its singer, not a girl named Brenda Lee (who was coming on strong). So, naturally, I looked up this Brenda Lee song, ....and here I am.

Anyone else see the above mentioned commercial and in a twisted/convoluted way, ended up here? Just curious. One more thing....did anybody mistake the title of Radar Love and those same words repeated in the chorus as "Red Alert"? LOL, for years I always thought he was singing "Red Alert"-- I can still here it during the chorus when he sings the words radar love a few times- the last radar love in that line sounds like it, to me at least.

  37. B.... ....

Brenda Lee said she was very flattered she was mentioned in the song ' RadaR Love'

  38. C.... Y....

How wonderful that Golden Earring placed the title of this masterpiece in their own song "Radar Love" so that we could all experience the wonder that is the mysterious "forgotten song." It simply gives me goosebumps.

    C.... Y....

It’s not a masterpiece. Hence why it’s referred to as “a forgotten song.” Dumbass.

I was about to say, 'stop it', but as soon as I hit reply the song started. Nice groove. Keep trying, although I'm not sure today's youth give a sh*t about what 'we' think. I'm properly old, trust me. Ok, I spent a minute looking for the 'more than' maths symbol on this keyboard. Not there. Fool me anytime. I'm here to be fooled by anyone who's kind and nice and, sorry.kids, old. And you seem nice. The internet, in its benign form. Trust me, it won't last. Love you x

  50. R.... D....

"Radio plays a forgotten song---Brenda Lee Comin' on strong!" Never even heard this song until recently! Immortalized by the ever incredible Golden Earring's "Radar Love"!!! This song came out the year I was born--1966! Since I love "Rockin' around the Christmas tree" and several others, when I heard this song, I was blown completely away! It ROCKS, and the trumpets are awesome! Since I am a drummer and am learning trumpet, at age 48, I was amazed at just how awesome it is! Well--really should I be surprised? Brenda Lee is the best of the best in female rock singers, and the first, too! I hope she lives to be 100! What a voice! What a lady! What a rocker! I always dreamed of her and Pat Benatar doing a hard rockin' duet together---they would bring the house down! 2 of the best female rockers ever! I love you, Brenda Lee! You are forever in my heart and soul! Rick "C-6" Delair "the paraplegic drummer"!!!!

    R.... D....

Holy shit I did not realise she sang Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, but i can hear that now. The more you know 🌈 man, that was even a Christmas song I used to like a lot when I was little. Theres a home video somewhere of 3-4 year old me dancing to it in Hershey Park

    R.... D....

Who cares about radar love? No comparison!!!

    R.... D....

@Bobby Wall Obviously plenty of people care about it. And nobody in this comment is comparing anyone. Are you really irritated that people have learned about -- and appreciate -- Brenda Lee because of another song?

  51. B.... B....

Seventy years of being a wonderful Lady,
    And still coming on strong,
    you go Bren!

    B.... B....

Bren would be the best super bowl half time show ever "50"

    M.... v....

Golden Earring inspired me to find this. Pretty good.

This gem from 1966 you can listen to over and over and never get tired of hearing it!!!  The only thing that might have surpassed Brenda's voice was hear hypnotic beauty...God gave out a double dose of blessings when He created this lovely lady!!Thank you for posting this song as well as video. A++++ job!!

  64. C.... P....

    Takes me back, love it.

  65. m.... w....

Is there a better song of the 1960s, in that weird country-rock range, so at home with all the other wildness?  Within its shortness Brenda just builds and builds, and sends you into her very own universe.  Trust me, I've played the record for friends, who started bored and just got more and more involved, then had to hear it again and again.  This song is hypnotic.

  66. b.... ....

" and the radio played some forgotten song

GTA V brought me to Radar Love which brought me here.

  73. D.... S....

Met too! lol catchy classic country by the way.

  74. A.... ....

I always get Brenda confused with Teresa Brewer.

  75. A.... ....

Radar Love is pretty lame as well so they go together nicely.

  76. J.... ....

This song was used by American Motors (Gremlin, Hornet, Matador, etc.) for their 1973 radio commercials.

  77. T.... ....

It's funny that most of us were brought here by "Radar Love". I always wondered for years what this forgotten song was, & now I will forget it...This song is lame !

  78. L.... D....

Really great sound. I adore Brenda Lee.

    Really good song.

    Many thanks for posting.

    I adore Brenda's voice!!!!

  92. j.... ....

Brenda Lee has always been one of my favorite singers, right alongside Dusty Springfield and Dionne Warwick.

  93. m.... w....

I've introduced this song to people over the years, and watched them become entranced.

It has, perhaps, the most perfect pacing, and wild throw-offs into something else, as it just keeps building... and you don't even realize it, until Brenda has you back and into the finale.

This is a very interesting piece of music.

  94. M.... ....

My mommy's name is Brenda Lee. :D
