I thought this was Paul Revere and the raiders for years.

Great rock song by a band that was known notoriously for their soft music. They never got the credit they deserved for this jewel. I raise a glass in a toast to all who are still listening today !

I like both this one and 'Mother Freedom' which were the only two rock songs that I remember from Bread. At first, I thought it was a different band when I heard it back in 8th grade. Too bad these singles weren't bigger hits. I think that their fan base preferred their soft rock sound. I can hear Bread's influence in Air Supply 10 years later.

Paul Revere and the Raiders???? Sounds very 1967-68. Heard it for the first time a few months ago,pretty awesome.

Not surprisingly, this didn't hit Billboard's Easy Listening chart.

First heard this hit in 1970 and I thought it was The Raiders the lead sounded like Mark Lindsay, front man for Paul Revere and the Raiders.

Great band. Whenever I look at the picture of them beaming out of the cover of "Best of Bread", it pains me to think that only two of the original members are still with us.

I don't know who played the drums on this track but what a great performance,especially the quick foot work on the kick.This is one of those songs that inspired me to start playing drums.This drummer should have gotten a grammy for Best Recorded Preformance in my book.

YOu are one of the lucky few to see them in concert. Though I loved them when they were in their heyday, I was too young to see them.

Looking back of the same era, I wish I had seen more concerts.

But I did see half a Pink Floyd concert (1975 WYWH tour.) Wrecked my car on the way. So an $8 ticket & a $250 car but still worth it.

I can only imagine the energy.

I'm 33 years old. I found Bread via finding how much I liked our local "oldies" station.

I bought the CD when I was in High School, so literally 30 years past when my Dad would have embraced them.

For them to have caught me at 15/16 years old was pretty special.

Gary is right, not only is this the best song Bread ever made, it is the ONLY good song they ever made. I have the original. Regardless on whether a band is usually crap or not, a good song is a good song.

+heavypsych666 Very true my friend....The thing with bands that are not really rockers as such, is that they record a song that is totally different, and also so much better then anything else they had done before, but they don't know it, because they don't recognise the strength of the melody they have just created. The best example of this is Edwin Collins and 'Never met a girl like you before', a great song, but all his other songs were crap.

Within your last word is my reply, I am a metalhead, so therefore would not be a likely admirer of mushy ballads, unless they had a metal twist to them, for example Dreamer/Deceiver by Judas Priest. I therefore cannot enjoy them. I do however enjoy Let your love go.

I have to say that although Bread are known for there Ballads. They also did plenty off Rockers. Mother Freedom 'Down on My Knees' Fancy Dancer ' Truckin' Blue Satin Pillow. And many others Keith

Bread songs only made it to the radio if they:

1) were slow ballads,

2) had no risque or controversial content at all, and

3) were written by David Gates.

only David Gates is still surviving amongst this line up

Back when any song over two and a half minutes was frowned upon by the radio stations,,, and on top of that they had their turntables cranked up to play them even faster. Great time to grow up in. 8-)

I was listening to this song earlier today (well trying to, dusted down my old turntable but the vinyl itself is a bit scratched.) Yeah good song , it appeared on their mega selling UK release The Sound Of Bread. Cheers for posting.

I remember hearing this song on the radio and going 'this is Bread?' I'm not a fan of their soft rock songs but this one's killer...

Peaked only at #28 in Feb. '71. Obviously the public did not like hearing Bread get into rock because the follow up was "If" a typical soft-rock song which peaked at #4 in May '71
