Bread - Come Again Lyrics
Hear, the knock at the door and you know who is there,
you tell yourself you don't care.
Try, you try to pretend you'll just send him away,
You know it won't end that way
Your heart doesn't stand a chance, your eyes let him know
You lost it for him years ago
Hear, the voice at the door and it makes you afraid,
afraid but you don't know how
Try, you try to remind him the promise he made,
He doesn't remember now
The tears welling up inside are drowning your dreams
And your chance for another chance, keep leaving with him now it seems
time, the friend that would bring him around
is turning on you and it's bringing you down.
Love, you tell him you love him and want him to change,
He says that he'll really try
Hear, how often you hear as he's closing the door
and softly you say goodbye
Come again
Come again

Bread Come Again Comments
Bravo, Bread!
Beautiful. I remember right where I was when I heard this song nearly fifty years ago. That is quite a singer-songwriter accomplishment David Gates.
I am sick... This is enough medicine...
Strait back to another time... proverbial sorrow about a time that I fondly remember, even though it was bad...
This song is so fucking good.

Still the most unappreciated GREAT band of all time! Rest in peace James, Mike and Larry. Only David and original Robb are still with us. Long live BREAD!!!!!!
This song could be rerecorded tody.....what great lyrics. artist today are missing out on one of the greatest writers in music. David Gates was a master at ballads....Hell, he was just a great song writer ...!
WOW. This track just blows me away. And at the same time brings a tear to my eye, with only one member left.
This is an absolutely brilliant song. The instrumental break in itself has more style, skill and creativity than ANYTHING I have heard this century. What a gorgeous song. Best on the album, along with 'if', naturally.
This song is so underrated that it's a crime! The part beginning at 2:50 takes me to another plane of imagination..
Wow Nice boy ...
This is one of my favourite songs from one of my favourite albums of all time. I would also put 'On the Waters' in the same league. I agree about the middle coda.. fantastic.. epic indeed.
(gets out walking stick) They don't write them like this any more :-)
Thanks for posting.
How many times I listened to this cut from the wonderful album "Manna" way back when. I can still visualize late nights, through the headphones, this lovely song providing emotional sustenance -- and then the segue into the upbeat "Truckin'" that worked perfectly -- thanks so much for posting this, and thank you Bread for recording it. A shame that as of this date only 20 views. But you can bet all twenty are deeply grateful!
Only ELEVEN views ?? Kids just dont know good music nowadays......the middle coda of this piece is just EPIC !
