It’s almost midnight on a Sunday night and I have school tomorrow but I listened to this album anyway. I’m about sixteen or so years late to this album but I’m so thankful I have found it because I know I’ll be listening to it for years to come. I’m a senior in high school right now and I’ve been reading all these comments from past graduates who reminisce about their days as teenagers and it does make me feel bitter because I want to stay a teenager forever honestly. I’m terrified of growing up and time getting the best of me. 2014-2018 is a shitty generation for me to have to grow up in compared to the simple times of the 90s and early 2000s but I have to embrace what I’ve got or else I won’t really be living. I just really appreciate this band so goddamn much. And I feel an even larger connection to the music because this band is based out of Long Island and that is where I live. I’ve lived here my whole entire life and I like it here. I’m just sad I wasn’t as aware of living as I was when I was freshman and a sophomore but we learn and grow as humans for a reason. I’m enjoying my senior year so far. It’s by far my best year and of course my last. But I’m taking in all I can, finding good as fuck music, and just really living. I hate the summer but I’m anxious for it to be warm again so I can take midday walks and listen to brilliant songs like these. Thank you, Brand New.

I hope that you're doing better than you were when you wrote this initially. Don't worry about "where you should be" by societal standards and strike a balance. You can still live the carefree lifestyle in this song - society tells you that you need to struggle with money and have expensive dumb things but the reality is if most people would be happier living comfortably without debt and having experiences like this than struggling to keep up with their neighbors, having a nice car, and buying into the rat race. When I was 18 I didn't care about anything but enjoying life, the world is fucked so lets just chill and have fun. Since then I've realized how dumb that idea is, gotten a job and make lots of money. People who say money can't buy you happiness never had money. When your problems are working shitty jobs, being stuck in that shitty apartment or your parents house, and never getting laid, money solves all of those problems.

+rob murr This song highlights the great things about being 18, but also the great things of getting the hell out. At 2:20 there is a huge transition point. It goes from loving the town and the people and the times to needing to get out because it is all so bad and convoluted. It's a great balance and a great song.

People are so ridiculous with there banter about TBS did this and BN did that.  Who cares.  Of course they are going to have similar songs and lyrics.  A lot of the members of both bands have known each other forever and even attended high school together, not to mention that they are in the same genre of music.  Every band in this era and genre sings about heartbreak, girls, staying out late, friendship, etc. It comes with the territory.  And a lot of the similarities in Tell All Your Friends were intentional.  Timberwolves at New Jersey's lines, "Those words at best were worse than teenage poetry / Fragment ideas and to many pronouns / Stop it come on you're not making sense now" were all directed at Lacey's lyrics in Seventy Times 7, "Is that what you call a get away / tell me what you got away with / I've seen more spine in jellyfish / I've seen more guts in 11 year old kids," and so on and so forth.  Lacey and John Nolan (TBS's original guitarist) were best friends, and Nolan hooked up with Lacey's girlfriend at the time.  They hated each other, and a lot of both those albums were directed at releasing that anger, until you hear the apology from Nolan in There's No "I" In Team when he quotes the lyrics from Seventy Times 7 in the background of the song.  I know those comments were years ago, and this is a pointless comment in itself, but it was just a bit of information for anyone who cares.  They both have done separate and joint interviews about those two albums encompassing their feud, and without that initial hatred, there might not have been enough weaponry in either bands arsenal to write the angsty, over-dramatic, lyrics that we all grew to love.  So, don't hate on their similarities, but if you truly like either band, be thankful that for a short amount of time they hated each others guts enough to produce some damn good tunes. 

Seventy times 7 and There is not I in Team are direct responses to each other though. Because Jesse Lacey was saving himself for marriage and his girlfriend fucked TBS' guitarist who was one of his best friends.
