Brand New - Desert Lyrics

Last night I heard a voice that said this is the end
All my nerves have been worn to the threads
I only honestly have one or two left
I got my faith, I got my family
I got a wire fence around my whole stake
If I believe only half what I read
I got a reason to be dug in deep

It's revelation saying
Don't come running to me
When they're coming for you

I seen those boys kissing boys
With their mouth in the street
But I raised my son to be a righteous man
I made it clear to him what fear of God means

I'd hold him down on the Tompkins Lake
Before I ever let him go to the wolves
The path we walk is only narrow and straight
No son of mine will wander astray
Abomination

Don't come running to me when they're coming for you
(Don't come running to me when they're coming for you)
Don't come running to me when they're coming for you
(Don't come running to me when they're coming for you)

Last night I heard a voice that said, "Don't give up your gun"
They keep washing right up on those shores
Man they're gathering their numbers up
Those bleeding hearts come marching down my road
Well I'll be waiting right here at my door
It's a lie to say it wouldn't be fun
If you're joining them then I got one
With your name on it

Don't come running to me when they're coming for you
(Don't come running to me when they're coming for you)
Don't come running to me when they're coming for you
(Don't come running to me when they're coming for you)

Don't come running to me when they come gunning for you
(Don't come running to me when they come gunning for you)
Don't come running to me when they're coming for you
(Don't come running to me when they're coming for you)

God is love

fucking proto fascist garbage. What makes you cunts think we're not gonna be gunning for YOU

  2. T.... J....

This reminds me of the ghost in the Shell ost. Like the bells from making of cyborg from the second verse

  3. C.... A....

Is this a song about DOTR? I like how self identifying leftists secretly long for an end to degeneracy as much as the next bloke despite all the virtue signalling. There's a moral compass after all, despite the art which is thinly veiled as sarcasm or commentary.

  4. N.... O....

It's interesting to me that people misread this song so easily.
The line, "If I believe only half what I read, I got a reason to be dug in deep," is so strong and obvious.

    N.... O....

    please elaborate! :)

    N.... O....

the entire song is politically motivated I think, but ohhh my god this is a master piece and let's not ruin it.

  5. R.... ....

OMG it's really good this song. =D

    R.... ....

You're late to the party friend!

  6. S.... C....

If this is out of contempt it doesn't matter because it's a banger in our house.

  7. B.... a....

Amazing song. I would love to feature this on our Podcast. Let us know if you are interested! Keep up the great work.

  8. C.... S....

    This song makes me erect

  9. B.... ....

I'm so thankful I heard this song. I got into an uber and he was playing this song, I was so relaxed, once I got home I looked up the artist and found other amazing songs. What made it even better was that he had a Dodge charger.

    B.... ....

Awesome story! You had a good uber driver. :)

    B.... ....

Did he pick up any passengers on the way by chance? Perhaps on the exterior?

  10. E.... P....

1:54 to 2:12 always reminds me of The Last of Us soundtrack for some reason.

  11. D.... J....

Everyone tryna defend this song saying it's something it's actually not need to shut up, he is obviously talking about his hate towards the LGBTQ community and the refugee crysis, he is literally comparing them to locusts by quoting revelations. This is a CHRISTIAN band so obviously he is going to be against homosexuality and Islam. stop trying to change this he said what he said.

    D.... J....

Miss Understood saying god is love doesn't change that the rest of the song is talking about sins.
This song is more about a man of faith that refuses to let the change of the societal zeitgeist change who he is and he will stand his ground amd die for his beliefs

    D.... J....

Dylan. I feel bad for you man. The band is very open about their disdain for this song's way of thinking.

    D.... J....

And they arent a Christian band.
There are religious members. But they actually have compassion towards people and definitely aren't against homosexuality.

    D.... J....

@Ninemanec Oni thats cool, just dont come running to me when they're coming for you

    D.... J....

@Notputting Mynamehere I'm sorry you spend your life in fear and hatred.

  12. I.... A....

    Paedophile!!!

    I.... A....

This is Brand New, not Jesse Lacey. You're entitled to your own opinions on the matter but don't come here trying to start trouble with others. We are here to appreciate the words and the music, not the history of the band members.

    I.... A....

It's not an opinion, it's the truth...

    I.... A....

I don't believe we know enough on the matter to make statements on what's true or false. I can understand the judgements of other people, but it's nobody's place but the victims and the perpetrators to make claims like that.

    I.... A....

Not to mention there’s plenty of people who cry pedophile/ rape on famous people as is, and it’s hard to prove one or the other

  13. M.... ....

Damn such a great song. Wish it wasn't such a pretentious bash at Christianity. It's so jammin I can't stop listening haha

    M.... ....

MrDarknesscometh I’m pretty sure (110%) Jesse is a Christian

    M.... ....

    He is.
Or at least was. I haven't really read interviews from them since Devil&God. But it's an attack on blind Christianity. The ones who forget what their bible preaches by only accepting what helps their faith and ignoring the rest.

  14. D.... ....

Jesse should've spent less time bashing Christianity and more time with his willy in his trousers.

  15. P.... S....

    Outstanding!

  16. R.... P....

Maybe it's from HIS father's perspective.

  17. N.... ....

that thing Jesse and the guitar does right before "righteous man" made me choke up the first time I heard it. this song is a fucking masterpiece on that masterpiece of an album.

  18. L.... L....

    cool song

  19. B.... G....

Sounds like Islam is coming and Christians will hold their ground with the speaker having no mercy.
The song wants you to feel indignation towards Christianity and the heartless "Christian" speaker YET it's completely mum on Islam.
Even if you think it's a battle between two evils why sympathize with the singer's perspective of focusing and judging the lesser of the two evils?
    * I'm assuming the refugees aren't harmless and there is a religious war going on.

    B.... G....

Blushing Gun just a typical theme bashing Christianity while ignoring the evils of Islam while painting people who don't want their culture and home invaded by hordes of people who aren't interested in our culture or home.

    B.... G....

Yeah, real astute observation, so tired of all those gay Muslims. Really though are they letting special needs classes post youtube comments now?

    B.... G....

Did you type that comment or was it the Pakistani that bangs your wife for you?

  20. C.... L....

Incredible. feels so powerful, this is what art is meant for. to spread the veins deep into your heart and squeeze

  21. C.... M....

This song made me ball over the fact of how fucked up this world is.

    C.... M....

    ball is life

    C.... M....

Colin Morris you can feel it coming too. Our heart goes out to you. Be ready 💙

  22. M.... ....

I dont think I wanted Brand New to get political... but this is their swan song so its the chance to do whatever they want. Still love them

    M.... ....

what do you mean its their swan song? arent they continuing their work?

    M.... ....

What do you mean "political"? He's singing about degenerates.

  23. a.... f....

the lyrics for this are crazy good. i didn't realise at first but listening again they're very on topic and deep

    a.... f....

also reminds me of thrice both lyrically and musically :)

    a.... f....

The melody kind of reminds me of The Earth Isn't Humming now that you mention it...

    a.... f....

    A. Freya I'm bisexual, and was raised in a christian household. The line "no son of mine will wander astray, abomination." Is powerful the way its preformed with the melody.

  25. J.... S....

I can't tell if this song is Jesse's own perspective or if he is singing in from the perspective of a conservative character. Like, is he really a homophobe & fearful of refugees? And how does this tie into the album?

    J.... S....

DustyAndPistolPete i think you're the kind person that this song refers to

    J.... S....

when Jesse writes a song about the Pulse shooter and his father being invited as a special guest at Hillary Clinton's rallies afterwards, then I'll piss off. They're trying to earn brownie points with hypocritical lefties are accepting payments from Martin Shkreli to support them.

    J.... S....

    John Adams distain? Explain

    J.... S....

Name a single "once great civilization" ruined by the onset of homosexuality.

    J.... S....

If you say you aren't afraid of refugees you're either lying or you're a refugee. You can't mix scoops of the third world in with first world countries and expect anything good to happen.

  26. B.... W....

What a powerful song. I still haven’t finished listening to the album because I end up listening to this one over and over again

    B.... W....

Yea for real this is like the best song they got on this album daisy is by far at the bottom

    J.... ....

Thank you for posting the lyrics.

Two corrections - He says "I'll hold him down under Tompkins Lake..." As in, he'd rather drown his son than find out he's gay. Also, the line that you have as "Well don't___" I think is actually "with your name on it". As in, a bullet with your name on it.

    J.... ....

    Thanks buddy! Updated!
