Brand New - Battalions Lyrics
Please say you'll come along tonight
Please sing the words we love
Don't say that you forgot them
Don't keep the hand we've come to hold
I know you want to untie this rope and let it go
Please pose my skeletal remains
Give them a working pen
And I will live forever
Please let them love me though I fade
I know you want to
I know you want to
I know you want to run away
We're finding our own tonight
They come on battalions
We're finding our own tonight
A little light to keep it on our own battalion
Please keep these sounds from running out
Please let our steps fall soft
Keep them from hearing our tongue
Please let some hope come with the day
I know you want to
I know you want to
I know you want to run away
We're finding our own tonight
We're single spies when sorrow comes
They come on battalions
We're finding our own tonight
A little light to keep it on our own battalion
I know you want to
I know you want to
I know you want to run away
And so we watch the time we keep
And you know that I am swift
You know that I am quick
You know that I am fast asleep
We're finding our own tonight
We're single spies when sorrow comes
They come on battalions
We're finding our own tonight
A little light to keep it on
Our own battalion
I know you want to
I know you want to
I know you want to run away

Typo in the lyrics: it's "No single spies when sorrows come // They come on battalions." It's a reference to Claudius' speech in Hamlet.
@Thomas McKeen Rudyard Kipling and now Bill Shakespeare? Does Jesse expect that we appreciate the depth of the reach here?
Verse vocals = Robert Smith, Chorus vocals = Tom DeLonge
Heavy u2 influence
This isn't the first I've seen BN compared to U2. Is there a real relationship here or is the guitar riff in the chorus an easily identifiable or even just a wrongly attributed nod to U2.
I heard a different influence and think the bass guitar and drums are a nod to the Pixies, specifically Wave of Mutilation.
I often catch something that is unmistakably Pixies influenced.
this is brilliant, they killed it with this song. they never knew they did. i hope they listen to this and feel the same feeling of nostalgia and pride that i do everytime i listen to this.
oh also this reminds me of joshua tree u2.. the odder stuff
a band recording outside of their home.... i heard they recorded this in the UK, like u2 recording joshua in california
and then devil and god appeared which was the greatest effort ever put forth by these procrastinating gents
This song gives me chills like no other. That bass
The Edge Takes Over for Vin. I regret nothing.
CCONX oh god thank you, I think I'm the only U2 and Brand New fan
1:43 sounds like Archers chorus. Fantastic song.
A similar chorus was used for Archers when the demos were scraped.
Some of their chorus's were interchangeable apparently, so it makes sense.
@TeaL so you are saying that Mr Potato Chorus is a real thing!
please.
This fuckin song man, this fucking song i LOVE>>>
