Brady, Paul - Follow On Lyrics

Shutters on the windows, chains upon the door
Sleepless nights spent waiting for an answer
Dreams of heaven falling, panic in the town
Lonely men with fingers on the future

When all is said and done
You are the only one

Follow on
For the open road is waiting
Like the song
We will welcome what tomorrow has to bring
Be it fair or stormy weather
Take my hand
And we'll walk the road together
I won't mind
If it turns out that we never find the end
For all I ask is that you want me as a friend

Days of beauty calling, vanish through a haze
Lost inside some spiral with no ending
Still you bring me loving, free me with a touch
Lead me out to greet the calm descending

When all is said and done
You are the only one

This song was used on an ad for butter when I was younger. And the only lyrics I remembered were "take my hand, and we'll walk the road together" and could never remember the rest. And no one knew what I was talking about. So glad I found it :)

Another timeless Paul Brady masterpiece. His cd "Songs and Crazy Dreams" has all his best; truly incomparable, whether you prefer electric guitar or acoustic, his voice and lyrics are sure to move you to tears. If not then I pity you.

    What a feeling...

An evocative sparse piano intro alongside (I think) the guitarist is Phil Palmer ... this sound was very popular a la Christopher Cross. One of Bradys top tunes......When he sings the line 'For all I ask... is that you want me ....for a friend' it always makes me well up inside .... very emotional song well sung ....  Paul Young did a version of this .... but added nothing to it at all.

There are also available a beautiful cover by Maura O Connell as a guest vocalist on Jerry Douglas' "Restless on the Farm" and another one by Danú. Thanks for posting the author's version.

  20. D.... E....

Paul certainly wrote a beauty here...though I just now discovered it's authorship.  Appreciate any one who knows a male/female duet that's on a recording from say about mid 90's.  Seems like it was John Prine and one of the several female singers (including wives and ex's), it  could have been one of several similar artist though.  Stunning song nonetheless, thanks for posting!

really reminds me of my mother, god rest her soul. 'Take my hand' make me think of her taking me to primary school. Makes me feel sad and happy at the same time..

Haven't heard this song for about 10 years, the song came haunting me today and I could do nothing but find it.

"If it turns out that we never find the end,
For all I ask is that you want me as a friend"

    One of the best

This was 'the' song for me and my wife. Paul Brady fans since watching him play The Island on Whistle Test in 1985. It was even the first dance at our wedding. Then the bitch dumped me for no damn reason after 17 years together.
But I still have this song; it means more to me than she ever will. Onya, Paul!

Gosh, I thought I knew most of Paul Brady's stuff, though I know I don't really! Never knew of this, wow, what a great track and wonderful words. I'm so pleased to find out that I can find this stuff online as have hardly ever use YouTube, despite having registered as I thought it was all about stupid comic videos about dogs/pets etc. and I'm not interested in that. You learn something new every week! Thank for putting it on here and bringing it to more fans.
